You are a dead set legend! We're one day into a 4 week trip outback and had the same issue. We were contemplating turning around and going back home when I found d your video. Worked a treat! Thank you!
You legend! Thanks for the post mate. You just saved me a bundle of cash. I did a simple continuity test with a $20 circuit tester on each of the thermostats and found the dead one in a flash. With your tips, I then bypassed that sucker and happy days! It all came to life. If you were here - I woulda kissed ya! (Not really!) A new one is now on order. Isn't it just tops to be able to 100% diagnose the root cause of a fault. Love it. Many thanks for sharing.
Can't thank you enough for putting this video up. Trying to fix this problem for months and replaced just about every part after having several service technicians look at it and still wouldn't work. Then I came across your video with the same problem, did the fix and bugger me it works!!! Now to order a new thermostat. Thanks once again 👍Tom.
Just used this to diagnose fault on my swift HWS, confirmed faulty thermostat, new one on order for $70, better than the $1000 for new HWS. So glad I found this tutorial
Thanks Mitchell. My gas stopped working a few days ago so I decided to followup and found your video. Followed your instructions and it worked a treat for me as well.
Thank you sooo much, really appreciate that you have taken the time to share this amazing video. Same thing with happened to us, I have just sorted it thanks to you.
Thanks mate, just pulled up for the first night of a 5 week trip and wouldn’t light. In Brisbane in a week so I’ll replace the thermostats there. My wife is very happy now. Cheers, Cambo. P.S. don’t leave the heater running after bypassing the thermostat, it will endlessly boil.
Hey mate I just did this trick and it worked your a bloody legend No more cold showers when off grid camping 😜 I’ve got the exact same unit that had the exact same issue All fixed Happy camping ✌️👍😎
Glad it worked Mark, do keep in mind though that it is only a temporary fix and you will need to replace the faulty thermostat as soon as you can. Cheers, Jim.
@@plainandsimpletravels so I’m sure I have the part list somewhere Just order another ? Easy replacement ? I didn’t look to hard as I was to focused on [I can’t believe TH-cam is actually HELPFUL to humanity] #occasionally 😉😜✌️
Swift actually sent me one free of charge as mine was just out of warranty. It is a fairly easy repair, just make sure you take photos of the wiring before you dismantle it so everything goes back as it should. Also, the thermostats are actually only held in place by a grease type substance so can slide out of position very easily. Good luck !
Make sure the 240 volt ac is disconnected before touching wiring on thermostats, there is an automatic and a manual thermostat on both the gas and the 240, if you are confident enough the gas and 240 v thermostats are interchangeable . The manual thermos are 75 degree c and automatic are 65 degree c.
Awesome info mate! Mine was working off grid turn off to change tanks and wouldn’t reignite! You saved cold showers for the misses which would’ve been disastrous! Just asking did you replace your swift thermostat? Guessing it’s the plastic board we bypassed on? 👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback, Yes I did replace it. Just the small 1cm round part you removed the wires from. You need to replace asap. I got one from swift but I think most agents would stock them. Make sure you take photos as you dismantle so everything goes back as it should 😀
Good, you just need to get a replacement thermostat now from swift and all good. Another tip, take a photo of the wiring before you disconnect all the connectors 😀
I am guessing you do not have a swift Gehw model system then, so anything in the video is not applicable to yours. The swift does not have a sacrificial anode only a sacrificial tube which protects against bacterial attack IF you use bore water for a long period of time, which we don’t.
@@plainandsimpletravels They still recommend that you check it periodically. I am currently installing a GEHW, and it is in the owner's manual. I know that the sacrificial anode is on the cold water inlet, & am now trying to find out exactly how to check/replace it (be prepared like a good scout). I'm thinking of carrying a full maintenance spares kit, so I don't get caught short in the middle of nowhere.
Than for the video, it got me back in hot water
Glad to hear it, just remember though it is just a temporary fix. Thanks for commenting. 👍
As the previous comments say that you are a LEGEND, had the same problem used your suggestion, it worked.

Great. Just don't put off a full fix for too long. Have a great trip.
@plainandsimpletravels Thanks mate. And yep, we've already arranged to picknup a replacement part on our travels next week. 👍
You are a legend we are in the bush and the hot water stopped working and you saved the day thinking you😅
Glad it worked. Don’t forget that it's only a temporary fix.

Glad it helped. Now the messy bit replacing the thermostat. Don't forget to take photos before you start so it all goes back in the correct position 😉

@plainandsimpletravels new part should be here this week so fingers crossed all good after
Thanks Mitchell. My gas stopped working a few days ago so I decided to followup and found your video. Followed your instructions and it worked a treat for me as well.
Glad to help, but please keep in mind it is just a temporary fix to enable you to get a hot shower or two 😀
Thanks. Awesome video. saved me a heap trouble and headaches. All I needed to do was hit the reset button.
Thank you. You have saved the day for me as well. I will order a replacement tomorrow. Cheers.
Thank you! All I had to do was pressing the reset button and that fixed it for me. Would not have figured this out without your video.
Thank you sooo much, really appreciate that you have taken the time to share this amazing video.
Same thing with happened to us, I have just sorted it thanks to you.
Another confirmed fix here. I followed your directions exactly and it worked straight away
Great, again, just keep in mind it is only a temporary fix. Glad it got you a hot shower !
Thanks mate I was waiting for a phone call from I think his name is fab, and by chance found yours and fixed it immediately
Pleased to help, but don't forget it is only temporary fix.

Thank you! Your fix just worked for us. We eventually replaced the faulty thermostat with a new part.
Thanks mate this worked for me as well I checked everything out and I did what you said and it bloody worked 😀
Thanks heaps for your video ,same thing happened to us, did what Brad said to you and guess what ,fixed ours too! Cheers Anne and Steve.
Thank you. Worked like a charm.
Great video mate thank you, this fixed mine until I can get the replacement thermostat

Glad it helped Mitchell.
@@plainandsimpletravels thanks it worked great
Bloody good work mate just saved me some time and money!! Legand!!!
Glad it helped mate but just keep in mind it is only a temporary fix. You can actually get replacement sensors from swift and replace faulty one.
Thank you
Did the job 👍

Yeh good point, never considered that someone might be on 240 when they gave this a go. Thanks.
Worked a treat 👌 thanks

I cant see past that pipe to see what you have done
You have not mentioned the Anode replacement which is also a vital part of the maintenance
Correct, unless you have a stainless tank system like this one that does not have an anode.
I have a Stainless Steel tank and have just bought an Anode for it so not sure what you are telling me?
