This is beautiful 16 year old Anabel Sweeney of Wicklow, Ireland. Anabel won the contest held in Ireland to choose a guest singer to sing with Celtic Woman in their newest concert, "Homecoming". We were there at 3 Arena in Dublin and heard and saw the taping. Anabel is adorable and was wonderful under the tutelage of Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, formally of Celtic Woman...now CW Voice Director.
I'm so glad that Anabel is so confident on this song. If I were in her shoes, I would be having a breakdown from performing in front of an audience....
You know, shuboyos...you would have loved being there in 3 Arena that night...watching Anabel sing...with .Meav, as CW's Voice Director and Anabel's music tutor right there....and...see all of those standing and shouting out in the audience? They are the wonderful kids from Anabel's high school...cheering her on...Meav had done a wonderful job in bringing out her confidence. Anabel sang just like a pro!!
Surprisingly, I was in London on vacation the same week as the concert. I very briefly considered buying a ticket and catching a flight to Dublin....

I'm here because Dan Rather recommended three versions of "Fields of Gold" in his Substack newsletter yesterday, and this was one of them. I've now watched 3 times and have cried every time... there are no words to describe the beauty of her voice, or the poignancy of this song. I kept picturing the golden fields of Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, and so many other ravaged and war torn countries, where fields of gold often become fields of gray. We must do better... for the children, and for everyone's "field of gold" whatever that imagery might mean to them. Peace.

I'm brought to tears nearly every time I hear this, it's so beautiful and moving.

I was very moved by this song. However it took a little digging just to find out your name because you were not a regular member of the Celtic Woman. I tear up every time I hear this song, It is a song that brings a wide range of emotions to me from joy to sadness, grieving to hope. The best cover up to now I have heard was Eva Cassidy's., Anabel Sweeney you are right up there with your interpretation. I am very grateful that you won that contest!!! To me it was the show stopper of a very beautiful concert.

Generally speaking at 16 she would be half way through 2nd level education, she would be two years away from university age, I would imagine she would go on to university possibly to study music or whatever career she might want, definitely would be a perfect fit for Celtic woman

Both Stings' and Eva Cassidys' versions are better for me ....this arrangement was a bit messy in my opinion, the girl tries too hard to sing Cassidys version for the most part and she hasn't got the maturity in her voice to pull it off ...

This arrangement is so beautiful... That's why I used some of the composer's words (1:32 min) at my wedding to make them my own. I said to my wife: "I never made promises lightly / and there have been some that I have broken / but I swear in the days still left / we will sail the seven seas" - because I´m a sailor and she wants to come with me. Without this arrangement, I would never have become aware of the Sting song in this way. Thank you so much!
I stumbled across this listening to Lisa Kelly's rendition. The heart she put into this song was palpable. Quite honestly the best cover yet. When she got the standing ovation it brought a tear to my eye. I don't think she expected that but certainly deserved it.
