Thanks for the 1 year review. I just wanted to throw out there that I have built one of these machines following your guides and have been using the free version of Fusion 360 using Grbl post processing and have had a lot of success running my projects. I started using the generic 3-axis machine, but ended up defining my own machine in Fusion. The software does seem to have a bug(there are plenty it seems) where every once in a while while post processing it adds a line to home the Z axis. You can just cut out the G54 line from near the start of the file. However, once I created my own machine definition, I have not seen this issue. I am quite new to CAD/CAM and CNC in general so it could have also been my fault, but the TLDR is that the free version of Fusion 360 works with this SMC controller in my experience.

After watching your recommendation I decided to buy one of the smc 5-5. My computer running Mach 3 died. The SMC in my opinion is way better than Mach 3. Like you I have run a 10 hour carve with out a hiccup. Once you get used to the buttons and remember what they do is is so easy to use. I also like the fact I can turn it off at night come back in the morning home the machine then go to reference coordinates and start the carve where I left off without worrying if it is going to work or not. Thanks very much for your videos

Ok inches are fine with the smc5 but you cannot switch back and forth. I just helped a friend up grade his CNC router and we put one of these on it. When you set the steps just work in inches and the display is inches.

Thanks for the video Roger. I have the smc5 on my home brew router project. Thanks to your help, I am driving all axis around the table. Next is the limit switches and home switches installation. I saw in your video the home switch settings, but do we have to have additional switches for limit switches? Just wondering if a home switch failed I might end up with a crash. Again, thanks for inspiring and explaining.

Hello Sir, I'm researching a project to install 4th and 5th axis dividing head on one of my CNC mills with this SMC5 control for index only. Not sure if your familiar with the Haas 5c indexer and control box but it receives a start signal from my CNC machine (12-24v not sure) to SMC5 to cycle start 1 movement and when indexing is done it sends out a finish signal back (12-24v) to machine so the main CNC mill program continues unit next I/O from control. Does this control have cycle start and cycle finish I/O that can be used in this way? Thank you
