  • Bill Pinkney and his Original Drifters (Vernon Young, Chuck Cockerham, Richard Knight Dunbar, Greg Johnson, Charles Blackman) perform the classic 1954 rhythm & blues rendition of "White Christmas" for a P.O.R.C.C. audience in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 11, 1995. In his 70th year, Pinkney is reprising his role as original bass lead. Greg Johnson is singing the tenor solo originally recorded by Clyde McPhatter.

Absolutely great sounds. Considering there is only one original member, Bill Pinkney, these guys sound excellent. And Bill for his age...WOW !!!

Bill Pinkney originally from Sumter South Carolina. The music of The Drifters, some of the best music I've listened to growing up in the mid-50s; bring back fond memories!

What a great band. These days the other surviving members of the drifters should regroup with Shaq as their lead singer. Shaq would make a great singer imo

There is no surviving members that we know of the original 1953-58 era Drifters. Possibly original bass Willie Ferbee is still alive tho I don’t know. Mr. Pinkney was originally first tenor however he moved down after Mr. Ferbee left due to an accident. Due to him being a natural bass-baritone anyways it was no trouble for him to sing the parts. Even the leads who took over Clyde McPhatter, his good friend Little David Baughan and later Johnny Moore are both deceased. Mr. Moore’s replacement Bobby Hendricks has also passed. As well as “Carnation” Charlie Hughes and Mr. Pinkney’s replacement (and later Elsbeary Hobbs’ replacement as well) Tommy Evans.
