    For those who are curious about the "Bang/clang" sound, that is the mechanical bell that rings as a crossing is approached and as it enters and leaves a station. Most of the communities are designated as FRA "Quiet Zones", so the bells serve an important purpose to warn motorists and pedestrians of oncoming trains.

    11:58 to 12:32 is the englewood flyover which opened in 2014 carrying the commuter rail tracks over the norfolk southern tracks

    Nice video! Right at 13:41 on the counter,the 47th Street Diesel Repair shop can be seen.I started working there in 1969 as a machinist when it was the Rock Island Railroad & the building was called the "Rockethouse".My father worked as an electrician at the Rock when they moved into that building when it first opened up in 1953.

    You know, I thought La Salle Street Station was gone. I remember going into and out of it decades ago when I rode the 20th Century Limited to and from Chicago. I also remember standing outside the station, looking up at the EL tracks and seeing what I know now was a North Shore Line Electroliner.

      By the time Metra took over the Station was in disrepair. It was finally rebuilt in the mid 80s and again in 2011.

    You're so lucky to be able to ride this branch of the Metra Rock Island Line. I've been trying to take it but I always take the wrong train😔. This year I'm bound and determined to try to take this branch. Also I am planning to take the Heritage Corridor being they finally added another run. I know I'll have to take this back but at least I would've taken all of the Metra Lines finally.

      Yes, one must not do any filming on any train, or any line period! My Uncle Ray said that of two years ago. It's a mandatory thousand dollar fine now, to be paid on the spot asap. Or thirty days in county lockup/prison.

    Liked the video very much. Those tracks around the 19:00 - 20:00 + area towards the end of the line seemed pretty poor. The train car creeking and squalking through that area. Poor engineer, do they need to wear noise cancelling headphones?, that bell sound has to grate on your nerves

    • @MPIEMDRailfan4
      @MPIEMDRailfan4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Believe it or not, the bell doesn't grate on your nerves. Most railfans find the bell to be nostalgic. And yes, the engineer does need to wear earplugs, but not for the creaking. They need to wear earplugs for the horns.

      Strange that grade crossing are the highest chance off death from a railroad, the FRA is worried about offensive noise in a community.

      @@billconserva1461 Many communities in Chicagoland have strict no train horn rules where the horn is only blown if there is some obvious emergency such as a rock motorist or pedestrian on or very close to the tracks and the engineer has good cause to blow the horn.

    • @PositionLight

      There is less general safety protection on station platforms and it also helps warn track workers in yard areas.
