Loved your video. I have used mesh before many years ago. My first project was to make a border all around our bathroom walls. I used a piece of plywood cut to the height of the border and long enough to fit on my work table and short enough to carry into the bathroom. I covered it with waxed paper and used a glue to secure each piece of tile on the mesh. Then with the help from my husband, we took the whole thing to the bathroom. It was quite heavy. I put mortar on the area where it was to go. And then removed the tile from the board, peeled off the wax paper and pressed it into the mortar. I repeated this until all the walls including the shower had the border and then grouted it. After all these years it has held up just fine.
I am with you, tile mesh is a great product for large murals as they can be cut down into more manageable pieces. But when using Weldbond (dries clear ) the mesh will show through any transparent glass. Especially if you use a darker thin set for the final attachment, the white lines of the mesh will be seen through the glass. If you use a White thin -set tile adhesive for attaching to it’s final resting place you can still use Weldbond as your initial tile to mesh glue. Cheers
Or my fire pit! Thanks you answered all my questions in one video. By the way, I looked at your website and you are a true artist! Your pictures are amazing, couldn’t believe the detail on the people like the striped dress on the girl by the water. Such talent. You use tiles like paint. My uncle was a famous portrait painter and your pictures remind me of his paintings. Thank you for sharing what you do. Have no idea how you have the time. Wish the bird fountain was for me.
I haven’t had the courage to do anything yet! But you gave me really great advice. Soon I will have knowledge to feel confident in doing great tiling! Thank you
I would love to see the next step, ok so I have placed my design down, and I have put my tile over it, now what, what is the application like, and to what kinds of places? loving your videos, I am taking lots of notes I am totally self taught so channels like yours are so invaluble
Hi Steph, I've done a few videos using mosaic mesh and the next steps: stepping stone (th-cam.com/video/JYE1Vt-FFGA/w-d-xo.html); how to grout a tiled mesh mosaic (th-cam.com/video/vSGv2NyObeo/w-d-xo.html). Lots of possibilities for where you can place your mesh mosaic. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing. I love your videos, please keep them coming. It would be great to see the next step of the process and how you use and apply them in your projects.
Hi Judi, and thanks so much for your kind words. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the channel. Isn't mosaic mesh the coolest? I will definitely be using it in some future projects which I'll share here on the channel. Stay tuned!
I wish I saw this before I did my kitchen backsplash a million years ago! I spent about 40 hours putting it all together and when we went to put it on the wall, about 20% or more of the tiles fell off the backing! Thanks so much for all of these tips!!
Ordered a fancy mosaic - lots of marble pieces - from Mozaica (it was terrific!), but it was round (also had a mesh backing on it) and I was placing it over my stove and had to fit glass subway tiles around it. As cutting those tiles in curves was NOT easy, I decided to put a square marble edging frame the round (24") mosaic, and ordered more marble pieces from Mozaica (which they easily were able to send). So I needed to make "corners" of small pieces of marble and so seeing your video on how to apply these to an existing mosaic was really helpful. Thanks!
Hi Pem, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, mesh is an interesting, really versatile material. You can do so much with it. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Awesome tutorial, very clear instruction. Can't wait to try it - need to make a glass backsplash for our new kitchen. Have a year to get it done .... !!! :))
Hi Amanda! Thanks so much! Great to hear you enjoyed it.Ohhhhh, a kitchen backsplash......how fun! Mosaic mesh will work great for that. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Such a brilliant video. Thanks. I want to create a few garden images to attach to my external wall. Drilling it's problematic so it needs to stuck to the surface itself - which is painted brick. This looks like a great technique for doing that, but I have a question. I normally see designs with a background filled in - but I would like these designs to to be plant and bird-shaped. It is still going to last if I cut the mesh around the shapes? Is there a video where you show using around the mesh to create specific shapes and how to attach these to a vertical wall please? Thank you in advance!
Hi Raul! Think of mesh as a placeholder so to speak. You'll adhere your mosaic to it, and then hand it off to the pool installer. I would use non-adhesive mesh and glue your tesserae to it. Sounds like a really fun project! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
first of all wow I m excited to see your beautiful pieces which i am still taking it all in far as working on a project you have and learning to one myself soon as possible good work. however I know where to buy the mosaic and show me soon by making a video or just explain laugh out loud. awesome.
I need to know the final steps of this method. If I copy and stick a design through the mesh how do I go about removing the design paper before I stick my meshed tiles onto a board.
Thank you - will be doing a lizard on a rock with the mesh so it will lay on the bumpy parts...was hoping to see how to apply it ... I'll keep searching.
Hi Cheryl! The adhesive-backed mesh sounds like your best bet. This video shows how I applied it: th-cam.com/video/T6l8dqHgE1I/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Thank you Julie! I've never seen a blooper reel incorporated into the video (great addition!). Do you recommend a specific place to purchase mosaic glass from?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. I have a couple video resources to help you find mosaic glass: th-cam.com/video/u4UEVrlJxCA/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/Ey7nvV1PizE/w-d-xo.html. You can check out the video descriptions for both of those which will give you additional places to shop. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Amazing video, thank you! I'm going to be adding some mosaic accents to a now concrete retaining wall outdoors. So, a vertical surface. I'm thinking I'll glue stained glass pieces to mesh with weldbond, then attach the mosaic/mesh to the wall with thinset mortar. Does that sound like a plan that will withstand gravity and the elements?
I'd like to use small stained glass pieces, so as not to waste them, to make a backsplash in my kitchen. Would you recommend this process to do that? Would you have any tips for this mosaic newbie? Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. 😊
I'm making mosaic stepping stones from scratch. Yes, mixing the concrete, pouring it into a mold, then decorate the top of the concrete once it has set for a bit - till the water basically evaporates from the surface. Please tell me if this will work: I am wanting to use thinset to attach my pieces to the mesh, let is set overnight, then backbutter the mesh with the mosaic with thinset, and then transfer the product to my concrete while it's a bit soft. I would push it down a bit, until the top of the mosaic is level with the concrete top. Will the mesh adhere to the concrete? My plan is to use a hodge-podge of materials to make a sidewalk.
Hi Julie! GREAT name and welcome to my channel!😊 Glad to hear you're enjoying my videos. We've got some fun going on here. Let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to see. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Julie I was wondering what type of table top have you found that works best behind using mosaic ? if you're not using the mesh and you want to use some sort of form what type of material what do you use for that? I'm an old stained glass artist that haven't done it for a while and getting back into it now that I've retired. I like the way you teach Thanks!
Hi Libby! Thank you for your kind words. It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos. As for a table substrate, you want to think about where will the table be placed (indoors? outdoors?). For example, you don't want to put wood outside. The weather and things like termites will destroy it. Cement board or Wediboard are great options. You do want to make sure that the substrate is supported underneath. If it's being installed on top of an existing tabletop then great! But if there's no support under it, you need to add that first before placing your mosaic substrate. If it's a small side table then it probably doesn't need any additional support. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!💫
Hi there! Mesh tape has smaller holes and it comes with adhesive and no adhesive. I haven't seen larger sheets with smaller openings. If you do find some, please report back....I'd be interested. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Hi Goretti! Welbond is water soluble so it's not an acceptable adhesive for outdoors. I prefer fortified thinset-mortar for my outdoor projects, but waterproof silicone or Apoxie Sculpt are also great options. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I've heard that you have to use a special mesh called AR as it is especially made for concrete products. is the fiberglass the same as. they said that concrete can eat other meshes
Thanks for the video. Seems like you always recommend Stone Deals mesh. Just wondering why that is? There are lots of other general purpose meshes available at lower prices. Just wondering if the Stone Deals mesh is really worth the extra $. Appreciate any comments you might have. Thanks.
Hello, I’m making a memorial mosaic using glass on mash. This is my first mosaic, it’s 3 feet wide by 2 feet long. My question is, should I use thin set ? And what grout do you recommend? Thank you so much for your advice. The mosaic will be placed on a cement wall. Thank you again
Such a well done video - thank you! I am gearing up to do a very large outdoor mosaic and am wondering if Weldbond is suitable to glue the glass to the mesh for cold Canadian conditions. I plan to use a thinset rated for our climate to attach the mesh to a concrete wall.
Hi Brigitte! Thanks for your kind words and great to hear you enjoyed the video! You've got a fun project to do! I would use fortified thinset to adhere your tesserae to the mesh as well. For outdoor mosaics I wouldn't get Weldbond involved at all. Do everything you can to ensure your mosaic will hold up outdoors. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher OK, I just happened to find your 'channel' though a FB site - 'Vintage Bathrooms'....and I've already learned a couple things just by watching this and reading some comments! TY! Of course, here's my little issue. I've got an outdoor, inground fountain (Tucson, AZ) - It was tiled when we had it installed about 10 years ago. First Six inches from top down, there is 1x1 mosaic tile. Below that, all the way to floor AND floor of fountain is tiled in 2x2" tile. (All tile originally on mesh) - In the past 6 months, the 1x1 tiles are popping off 1 by 1. I decided to drain the fountain, collect the 'escapees' on floor of fountain and since the 2x2s seem to be stable, I thought, 'Oh easy. I'll just have the smaller mosaics at top taken off and I'll replace them with new tile. I've got the new round, smaller than penny tile (on mesh) - but now I'm to the point of REMOVING the existing tile installed with thinset/grouted and prepping the area for the new sheets of mesh. Might you have a video explaining how to REMOVE tile/prep area for new? TYIA!
Can you cover mirror glass in mosaics especially for an outdoor project. I'd like the incorporate some mirror pieces in a project, but I've seen projects that the mirror didn't age well and I think it had to do with maybe incorrect grout choice? I really don't know and am afraid to make my project with the mirrors only to later destroy it bc the silver on the back of the mirrors starts to corrode...
Thank you so much for this video! I have a question: I am about to begin a project where the mosaics will go on stepping stones in a garden. How would you attach the mesh to the stones? I think the mesh would be easier for a group to work on for this project but I am concerned for wear and tear. I am in Houston and our summers are brutal.
Great video! I make pavers, and I'm experimenting with he best and least problematic transfer methods for complicated designs. Since they need to be outdoor friendly, would fine-hole mesh work for detail work and thinnest application under the mesh?
Hi GreenOwlive! Mosaic mesh works great for outdoor projects like you described. You'll see how I used it in this stepping stone video: th-cam.com/video/JYE1Vt-FFGA/w-d-xo.html. Make sure you use a fortified thinset-mortar as your adhesive and that your grout is also fortified. And of course once your mosaic is fully cured top it off with a sealer (video: th-cam.com/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/w-d-xo.html). Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Thank you for the video! Which kind of mosaic should I used for an outside step stone? Which materials should I use to adhere and seal the mech on the stone ? Thank you!
Thanks for all that great info. I am making columns for my son's wedding (I'm a bit nervous). I am using PVC 10 1/2 irrigation pipe. Do you think using the mesh will help the grout to adhere better?
Hi there! Congrats on that exciting news! And what a project you've got planned. They're going to be AMAZING!!✨ I've got a video coming out soon on mosaic ideas for weddings. The mesh would certainly help 'catch' the grout. Remember you can always use thinset as grout too. Just grout in smaller sections since it's an adhesive. Enjoy your project! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Some of the tiles you were gluing onto the mesh had some transparency allowing the mesh to show through. When you adhere the mesh onto the substrate with, I’m assuming, thinset, does enough of it squish through the mesh so that it is camouflaged and only a solid white background shows through the glass rather than the mesh pattern?
Hi Christine! This video (th-cam.com/video/vSGv2NyObeo/w-d-xo.html) will show you how to tile on mesh using transparent tesserae...with no show through! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thx You! I'll be doing a broken mirror mosaic in a specific pattern. I've done this before, and made a mistake which adhesive to glue to a cement wall. The silver backing of mirror turned dark. I had to pull the pcs off the wall, and start again
Hi Donna! You'll want to make sure you're using an adhesive that specifically mentions, 'safe for mirror.' Here are a couple options: amzn.to/3Ob1sNl; amzn.to/38KakJv. Weldbond is not a good option because it will destroy the silver backing over time. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi Julie, I am getting ready to make my first attempt at creating a mosaic on Mesh, that I have just bought. Okay, now following your instructions makes it seem easy - questions, this is for a 9"x7" wood box - I plan on placing Mesh over the coloured pattern and following it in placing the Mini square tiles (it's a Roman design from free patterns) do I apply the tiles with Well Bond or Thin Set to the Mesh? As I watch you, you also grout the mosaic piece before attaching it to the box lid. (as I am typing, Just hearing you say Weld Bond is your favourite choice when working on Mesh). Okay, once that would be cured, how do I attach the meshed mosaic to the box lid? Look forward to your advice. Thanks, Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth! Well how exciting for you! Mesh mosaics are so much fun! Use a little Weldbond to adhere your tesserae to the mesh. It's just to keep them adhered to the mesh. Then once the mesh mosaic is dry, spread some adhesive (your choice!) onto the box and place your mesh mosaic on top. Wait for it to dry, then grout. OR the other alternative is to grout your mesh mosaic before you adhere it on the box. This video shows how I grout mesh mosaics: th-cam.com/video/vSGv2NyObeo/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm so thankful you're here!🔥
Hi Mary! Your adhesive choice will depend on your substrate and where the mosaic will be used (indoors/outdoors). If your mosaic will be outdoors I would highly suggest fortified mortar. If your piece will be kept indoors you have additional choices like a white glue (Weldbond), tile adhesive, and Apoxie Sculpt (which can also be used outdoors). Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Hi! What if you're doing a large piece using stained glass pieces that are small? The listing to the one you shared is for 12x12 and and I'm also wondering if it comes in really small squares for small glass pieces. Do you know? Thanks for this video! I also saw someone on Etsy making large mosaics and shipping them rolled on this mesh and I'm just wondering how they do that without any pieces popping off or how loosely it is rolled... thanks for any help and feedback!
Hi there! Yep, you can roll your mesh mosaics which I've done and handed over to a tile installer for final installation. When rolling up your mesh mosaic, it doesn't have to be a tight roll, but rather a size which will take into account your tesserae sizes. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Julie two quick questions. 1. I have my mosaic tiled on mesh using Weldbond . My plan is to apply thinset and then the mosaic onto that. My project is for a birdbath so I’m a little nervous because I know Weldbond won’t be safe in a wet environment. Should the project be secure once it is mounted on the thin set ? 2. Do you have any particular suggestions for mosaic on a bird bath ? Thanks so much for all your videos .
Hi Sunday Sunshine! You're just using Weldbond to secure you're tesserae to the mesh. Your thinset will secure the mesh mosaic to the birdbath substrate. Once it's fully cured you can then finish it off with a fortified grout. What a fun project! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thanks again Julie! I am preparing to do a wall. I’m very nervous. I will use mesh and thinset. What should I use to attach my mesh to the wall? Thinset again? Thank you soooooo much. Kathie 🐢
Hi Kathie! Oh wow, a wall?!?😍 You're going to do GREAT!! Yes, use fortified thinset as your adhesive to attach your mesh to the wall. You got this! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Weldbond is water soluble. So it's not acceptable for a stepping stone. Rather, you should use something like a cement-based adhesive, Apoxie Sculpt, or a water/weather resistant silicone. Weldbond is acceptable if you're just lightly adhering tesserae to mesh, and then transferring your mesh mosaic onto a layer of cement-based adhesive (or any of the adhesives mentioned above) on your stepping stone. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi Gemi11! You can transfer the mesh mosaic to cement and you'll want to use fortified thinset-mortar as the adhesive. Sounds like a fun project! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Eleanor! You can certainly apply resin over your mosaic even if it's not glued down...but I can't guarantee the outcome since I don't know anything about your project. You do run the risk of tessera moving out of place. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi Julie, you're just adorable! I want to make a custom mosaic pattern for a shower niche--once dried well, can the mosaic tile be trimmed to size with a tile saw?
Hi Kathy! Awww, thank you for your kind words.😊 Yep, you can just down tile with a wet saw. I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/pnHZTSqIaq4/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Hi Pamela, thank you for watching and glad you're here! I've only worked with Titebond on wood projects, but I know they have multi-purpose 'white' glues which would be fine...you're only using a small amount any way. I would suggest doing a spot test to make sure your tesserae sticks to the mesh before you use it for your final project. Let it dry 24-48 hours before checking for true adhesion. Good luck!
Hi! I’m having a Hydria water feature delivered soon. It comes with a loose circular mosaic design on mesh that sits at the bottom of the basin below the water outlet. I fancy making one of my own but have no idea what type of waterproof glue would be best. Please could you advise - I’m in the UK
Hi Teri! In the case of using tesserae of different thicknesses, you would want to use a different adhesive like thinset-mortar that will allow you to 'build up' the pieces. Everything else in the process would remain the same. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Laura! Yes! Mosaic mesh is waterproof. Check out this video which will help you with creating an outdoor mosaic using mesh + plus the correct adhesive to use: th-cam.com/video/JYE1Vt-FFGA/w-d-xo.html....and then check out this video on how to seal your grout for outdoors: th-cam.com/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Could I mosaic the top of a patio table on mesh and then grout it, leaving the mesh? The table will be on a covered patio. Thank you. I just love your videos!
Hi Neusa! Thanks so much for your kind words. Great to hear you're enjoying my videos! YES, you can attach the mosaic on mesh to a table top, and then grout. Make sure the table is a sound structure and can hold the weight of your mosaic over time. You might be able to add some supports underneath, if necessary. You want to avoid the table bowing. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher Thank you Julie. I have never done any mosaic work other than an ordinary flower pot. If my table comes out decent I will send you a photo. 🌷🌷🌷🌷
Hi RiverArtworks! In the video I demonstrated how to tile on self-adhesive mesh and how the mesh held onto the tesserae. Let me know if you have other ideas or particular needs for your uses and I’ll put it on the future video list.🙌 Thanks for your feedback! Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!🔥
Wonderful video again Julie thank you. I can't wrap my head around how to create a design for the inside of a bowl. It would seem you couldn't just take a flat piece of mesh. Can you give me any help in creating a 2D image of a 3D inside of a bowl? Make sense? Thank you.
Hi Time Enuf! Great to hear you enjoyed the video. Start with creating a paper pattern and then transfer it to the mesh. This method would work for the inside and outside. When tiling you might want to keep your groutline a little further apart or closer together depending on which side of the bowl you're working on. I would do a little test on a scrap piece of mesh first. Once you establish your groutline then get started with the pattern and tiling. Exciting project! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
Thank you for this great video! Quick question... can you grout the mosaic on the mesh BEFORE putting it on it's final support? Or does it have to be grouted on the final support only? Thanks in advance :)
Hi Anne-Isabelle, great to hear you enjoyed it! Yes, you can definitely grout it before you put it on it's final substrate. Glad you're here. Keep creating!
Hi Chesterharvey9747! It does! So you need to (really) think about your adhesive when working with mesh. In other words, what do you want the end result to look like? Check out this video where I combined mosaic mesh with transparent tesserae >> th-cam.com/video/vSGv2NyObeo/w-d-xo.html. The good news is, you have adhesive options when working with transparent glass. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thank you for showing us how to be creative. I have not start my first mosaic, however, this Mother's Day I received all the tools you mentioned in your previous video. My first mosaic is a memorial to my sister and I have few questions. What adhesive can I use on mesh if my mosaic will be attached to the back of my brick oven (still under construction :) ) with thin-set? Can Weldbond be use on mesh without compromise the
Hi Rosalia! Your first mosaic sounds very special. Use minimum Weldbond when adhering your tesserae to the mesh. Use fortified thinset when attaching your mesh mosaic to the wall. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hey Julie - quick question. I have a project where I need to use mosaic mesh. Was checking your links for mesh, but they are not available on Amazon now. Any good alternatives?
Hi Ashley! That's correct. You got it!🔥 If you want to see this idea in action, watch this video (th-cam.com/video/JYE1Vt-FFGA/w-d-xo.html) where I use mesh in a few different places on a mosaic. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!⚡
Very helpful. Thank you! Will the mesh be visible in the final project when using very transparent glass tiles? Or does it "disappear" once you do the final application with thinset?
Hi Joe! It's great to hear you enjoyed the video. Yes, the mesh will show through when using very transparent glass tiles. I would experiment on a practice board using white thinset instead of dark gray. See if the thinset 'blends' with the mesh and makes it disappear under the transparent glass, so to speak. I'm curious what you find out. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Great video! Thanks a lot. I found it accidentally and watched some other great videos of yours , and subscribe of course 🙂 A question please: I want to do a mesh mosaic project and to put it vertically on an outdoor stair. How do I put it? Use adhesive? And please tell me what kind of? Thanks a lot!!!
Hi yytios! Thanks for your kind words.😊 I suggest using a cement-based adhesive for your mesh mosaic installation. In the US we have thinset-mortar for example. Sounds like a fun project! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
If you save a piece like the flower and you want to add it to a larger piece, do you just cut the mesh around the pieces or put it down and fill around it?
Hi ArtByDavida! Actually, you could do either of those and they'd work. I would hold off on cutting down the mesh until you're ready to use it. Here's a video where I made all sorts of flowers on mesh: th-cam.com/video/BWSb1sN2j4k/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Sharon! I would recommend using a cement-based adhesive. Here in the States that would be thinset-mortar. You can check out this playlist to learn more about it: th-cam.com/play/PLDyDBysO6HCaYLv0g3lqmCVlA_GqFQZFd.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I have a project in mind which is doing a stone birdbath in mosaic. Do you have any hints and tips for doing my design on mesh first. Will I be opening up a world of pain for myself trying to then fit it into a shallow bowl ?
Hi Vee! Creating your birdbath mosaic on mesh is a perfect idea. The mesh is waterproof. Your bowl is shallow so you shouldn't have any problems at all. Just allow a enough space for your groutline and to account for a little curvature of the bowl. Sounds like a lovely project! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
When using the adhesive mesh, you mentioned it looses it's stickiness eventually. Does that mean that once you make your mosaic the pieces will gradually start to fall off the completed project? Or were you just saying that once you pull it out to use it for a project, it won't be sticky anymore and you'll have to use your own adhesive anyway? Thanks!
Hi Maria! Yes, over time the adhesive mesh can/will eventually lose it's stickiness but that could be years down the road, depending on how it's stored, the quality, etc. You would use self adhesive mesh to assist in your mosaic making, most likely as an intermediary substrate upon eventually adhering it to a final substrate with proper adhesive. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Hi Jess! You can tile your mesh mosaic on another piece of plastic-covered wood and then 'peel' it like you would a pizza off of a pizza pan onto the final wood substrate. Hope that makes sense. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi jennyandbuddy! Once your adhesive has dried, pull the mesh mosaic off of the plastic and then put adhesive on your final substrate and lay the mesh mosaic on top of it. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Kathie! Check out the description below the video. You'll see a list of the materials/mesh that I used in the video. Mesh is so fun to work with! Have fun! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
I m a beginner just want to know that how could you stick marble mosaic mesh tile (talking about ready to use tiles from home depot ) to a glass vase . I saw a marble mosaic tile and want to use it on a glass vase. Any advice how can I do that .
Hi Humaira! I did a video here on the channel where I created a glass on glass vase (th-cam.com/video/bYgTozW4RbU/w-d-xo.html). The concept would be the same as what you're thinking of doing with the meshed pieces. In the video I talk about adhesive, technique, things to watch out for! I think it'll give you some guidance with your project. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Just watched your video about using mosaic mesh. Would you be able to cut the mosaic shape out of the mesh once the glue is dry. I want to try making shapes to put on rocks.
Hi Michelle! Absolutely. You can see me doing it a little bit in this video: th-cam.com/video/BWSb1sN2j4k/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here! 🙌
Im interested in Mosaic portraits using uniform materials divided into 16 piece x 16 piece sections. Would this be a good use considering I would like to hang the final piece vertically? Thank you
Hi David! For what you're describing, mosaic mesh would work great as an intermediary substrate, to later be adhered to a final, solid substrate (wood, metal, glass, acrylic, etc.). Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi Steve, check out the description below the video to see a complete shopping list with links for all of the materials used in the video. Keep creating! Glad you're here!
Hi Julie - I attached mosaic pieces to mesh and it is dry - and I want to carry the mesh to a sealed piece of plywood for indoor use - what adhesive would you use to attach the mesh design to the board - it's about 18 inches tall and 8 or so wide - thanks josie
Hi Josie! Make sure the plywood is sealed first (this video will help you out: th-cam.com/video/-209xL8AWTc/w-d-xo.html) and then I'd use thinset-mortar as the adhesive. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi 2020Bookworm! All of the items discussed in the video are listed in the description (below the video).....this includes adhesive and non-adhesive mesh. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
You answered my basic beginner questions in one short & well said video, thanks!
Hi Lynne! How inventive!! Your bathroom must be gorgeous with your mosaic work. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
I wish we could see it! Lol
Cheers
@jdmosaics what is a secure white glue to stick the mosaic tile we make? I'm putting on a floor with metal mesh over wood to glue to
Or my fire pit!
So glad I found your site. Really helpful advice and practical to apply.
The beauty of mesh is that you can create icons and flat pack them until you have all that you require for your project! ❤
You said it Dianne!🙌 There are so many possibilities with using mesh.
Love your vibe… great info, and outtakes- awesome!
I haven’t had the courage to do anything yet! But you gave me really great advice. Soon I will have knowledge to feel confident in doing great tiling! Thank you
Hi Nicole! Thanks for your kind words. Great to hear you enjoyed the video. You can do this!🙌 Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!
Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Thanks for this. I would love to see you installing mosaic on mesh as a backsplash
Hi Barbara! You're welcome and thanks for watching! I'll add your request to the list. Good one! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Julie,
I am starting to create my very first mosaic, thank you so much for your help on my mesh choice!
Hi Denise! How exciting!!🤗 I’m glad you got value from my video. Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🔥
Your video skills are amazing! I cannot get enough!!!
Thanks Dee! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Ordered a fancy mosaic - lots of marble pieces - from Mozaica (it was terrific!), but it was round (also had a mesh backing on it) and I was placing it over my stove and had to fit glass subway tiles around it. Thanks!
Hi Pamela! WOW! You came up with a fantastic solution! Great to hear my video helped you out. Enjoy your backsplash and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Your bloopers crack me up! ❤
Hi Lauren! LOL!😂 I'm glad you enjoyed them. I try not to take myself too seriously. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Just found your channel.very well explained. Thank you from Oz.❤️
Hi Roslyn! Thanks so much! I appreciate your kind words. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Thanks for this video about mesh. Have never used before, but interested. Very clear and informative. Great!
Hi Pem, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, mesh is an interesting, really versatile material. You can do so much with it. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Thank Julie!
You’re welcome, Denise!🙌
Julie!!! Yet another interesting video ☺️ thank you!
U are now officially my fav! ❤️
Hi Mrinalini! Awwww, thank you!😊 That makes me so happy! Great to hear you enjoyed the video. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Awesome tutorial, very clear instruction.
Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Thank you very much for this video
Hi Naziha! Thank you for watching. Great to hear you enjoyed it. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here.🔥
Such a brilliant video.
Thank you for your expertise ❤
Hi Joe! I'm glad you got value from the video. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Hello.. what brand or tipe of mesh do you recommend for a mosaic under water in a swimming pool ?
Hi Raul! Think of mesh as a placeholder so to speak. You'll adhere your mosaic to it, and then hand it off to the pool installer. I would use non-adhesive mesh and glue your tesserae to it. Sounds like a really fun project! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
first of all wow I m excited to see your beautiful pieces which i am still taking it all in far as working on a project you have and learning to one myself soon as possible good work. however I know where to buy the mosaic and show me soon by making a video or just explain laugh out loud. awesome.
Hi Tiara! What you said!🙌
I need to know the final steps of this method. If I copy and stick a design through the mesh how do I go about removing the design paper before I stick my meshed tiles onto a board.
That was so helpful!!!
Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Thank you!
And thank you!! I’m so glad you liked it!🤗
Wow! So helpful!
Thanks so much Bud! I'm glad you found it helpful. When are we going to get you on the channel again?
What type of mosaic backing would you use specifically for the floor of a swimming pool?
Hi Annette! I would use mesh and then hand it over to your tile installer. Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🔥
I’m a beginner thanks
Hi Christina! What's your favorite material to work with?
Thank You, it's very interesting!
Hi Sandra! Mesh is so fun to use in mosaic...and at times, it can be a lifesaver! Keep creating and I'm so glad you'e here!🔥
Julie just found you! Love videos
Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!💫
What is the widest mesh one can buy? Not length, but width and where can one buy it?
Hi Ron! I've seen mesh that's 48" wide on a roll, and you can find it on Amazon. You might also check with a local diy tile store or hardware store🔥
Very helpful. ❤️
Hi JC! That's great to hear. It's so versatile in mosaic. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Just wondering does the adhesive clear when it dries? Glass tile really shows the adhesive through it.
I noticed that you are working with larger tiles. Is there a finer version of this mesh for smaller tiles?
Hi there! Mesh tape has smaller holes and it comes with adhesive and no adhesive. I haven't seen larger sheets with smaller openings. If you do find some, please report back....I'd be interested. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Is welbond suitable for outdoor mosiac
Hi Goretti! Welbond is water soluble so it's not an acceptable adhesive for outdoors. I prefer fortified thinset-mortar for my outdoor projects, but waterproof silicone or Apoxie Sculpt are also great options. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Para el exterior q le hada se usa.
I've heard that you have to use a special mesh called AR as it is especially made for concrete products. is the fiberglass the same as. they said that concrete can eat other meshes
Hi there! That’s correct. I have a video coming out soon regarding this topic. Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🔥
Thanks for the video.
Can you use wax paper instead of plastic wrap or parchment paper
Thank you!
Hi Zohreh! This stepping stone video should help you: th-cam.com/video/JYE1Vt-FFGA/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Thanks for all that great info.
Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
What adhesive do you use to glue finished mesh pcs to a concrete wall?
Hi Donna! My choice is always fortified thinset-mortar (amzn.to/3rrhTeI). Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Some of the tiles you were gluing onto the mesh had some transparency allowing the mesh to show through.
Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Can you use window screen as a substitute for mesh
Keep creating and I'm so thankful you're here!🔥
How do you adhere it then to the final place?
Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Do you have to leave a little bit of room between tiles? Will that help it stay better?
That's where the grout goes.
Can you use the weldbond for projects that will be used for stepping stones?
Weldbond is water soluble. So it's not acceptable for a stepping stone. Rather, you should use something like a cement-based adhesive, Apoxie Sculpt, or a water/weather resistant silicone. Weldbond is acceptable if you're just lightly adhering tesserae to mesh, and then transferring your mesh mosaic onto a layer of cement-based adhesive (or any of the adhesives mentioned above) on your stepping stone. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
If you do it like that, can you transfer to large cement that is outside? I want to cover my drain. And how do you ad it to the cement.
Hi Gemi11! You can transfer the mesh mosaic to cement and you'll want to use fortified thinset-mortar as the adhesive. Sounds like a fun project! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher Thanx!
Can I use resin over a mosaic piece I have not glued down
Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
My mesh stuck to my mosaic and I can’t get it off.Do you have any ideas for removing or can I just stick the. Piece to the wall with plastic on it.
Thank you! Do you know if Titebond will work?
When using mesh and using pieces that are not the same thickness how do you build it up on the mesh?
Hi Teri! In the case of using tesserae of different thicknesses, you would want to use a different adhesive like thinset-mortar that will allow you to 'build up' the pieces. Everything else in the process would remain the same. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Can you use mesh outside? To use it on a brick? And what type of adhesive would you be using outside?
Hi Laura!
Wish there was an example of sticky mesh shown. More sticky mesh use details.
Does the mesh show thru the transparent glass?
Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher Thank you 🙏
i imagine you could use anything mesh-like too, right? Like some leftover old fly screen should work too, as long as your adhesive works on it
Hey Julie - quick question. I have a project where I need to use mosaic mesh. Was checking your links for mesh, but they are not available on Amazon now. Any good alternatives?
I plan on using mosaic for my backsplash. So I would transfer the mesh to the wall and then grout everything? The mesh will always be under it?
@@JulieWeilbacher great info! Thank you
Great video! Thanks a lot.
I found it accidentally and watched some other great videos of yours , and subscribe of course 🙂
A question please:
I want to do a mesh mosaic project and to put it vertically on an outdoor stair.
Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
@@JulieWeilbacher Thank you very much for the answer🤗
If you save a piece like the flower and you want to add it to a larger piece, do you just cut the mesh around the pieces or put it down and fill around it?
Hi ArtByDavida! Actually, you could do either of those and they'd work. I would hold off on cutting down the mesh until you're ready to use it. Here's a video where I made all sorts of flowers on mesh: th-cam.com/video/BWSb1sN2j4k/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
How do I adhere the mosaic on mesh onto a large stone in the garden?
Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher Thanks so much for the info!
After you've done the mosaic design on mesh, how can you transfer it to wood?
Hi Jess! You can tile your mesh mosaic on another piece of plastic-covered wood and then 'peel' it like you would a pizza off of a pizza pan onto the final wood substrate. Hope that makes sense. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
would love to see a mosaic made of found material, as opposed to specific mosaic tiles...
Hi Alex! Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/iUw4s-JIow8/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!🔥
How do you glue it on when done putting it on the mesh?
Hi jennyandbuddy! Once your adhesive has dried, pull the mesh mosaic off of the plastic and then put adhesive on your final substrate and lay the mesh mosaic on top of it. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Is there a certain type of mesh you like to use? Thickness? Thanks Kathie from Mexico 🐢
Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Julie Where can I get this mesh. Can not find
Hi Steve, check out the description below the video to see a complete shopping list with links for all of the materials used in the video. Keep creating! Glad you're here!
Where can I buy fiberglass Mesh? I went to Home Depot, they didn't carry it and Michaels didn't have it either.
Hi Julie! Check the description under the video for sources on where to buy the mesh.✨
Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
what stores sell mesh?
Hi 2020Bookworm! All of the items discussed in the video are listed in the description (below the video).....this includes adhesive and non-adhesive mesh. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
