Clear, articulate, brilliant! Body numbness is a way of coping with trauma, and in a state of numbness we hurt ourselves, others, and the planet - which creates more trauma and more numbness. We have to gain enough inner strength to feel the pain and reduce the numbness.
always a pleasure to have you comment Paul
Thanks for publishing this important contribution. Thanks to Mark Walsh.
totally agree on your points about the yoga community. Being personally teaching in the scene, but not seeing myself as part of it, it's interesting to see how far away yoga has come from its roots and the actual meaning in the Eastern world. Excited to dive deeper into your work and check it out!
Great stuff. Thanks Mark - you continually inspire!
cheers :-) love to all in HK
"if the heart practices are taken out, if the ethical practices are taken out leaving just the mindfulness, this could just leave some very clear headed, very sharp nasty people"
God thank you for putting this into words so perfectly. This is exactly what my ex is doing with his mindfulness practices and why his style was always so off-putting to me. He would tell me I was just unenlightened lol
Inspiring! Such a simple and clear explanation... in particular I love the lead up to embodiement [empathy potential] - disembodiement [psychopathy potential] bunny rabbit metaphor.. brilliant.. embodied example! LOL and the way you explain how disembodiement separates us from 'soul'.. the potential to connect with the 'big body' and beyond. LOL re mindfulness and Samurai warriors. And the drive to be part of helping humanity regain it's soul in the face of disembodiement forces. I repeat all this because it's rare for me to find someone explaining things in popular language..humour - top drawer simple philosophy. I want to be part of the MOVE-ment too!
Love 2:21 - Is mindfulness there to make us more aware or just to make us more efficient corporate psychopaths?
Hi Mark,
I've gotten very interested in the theories of embodiment, but unfortunately I see many studies in social psychology (like the facial feedback hypothesis) can't be replicated. They say 75 % of studies in the domain of social psychology that have been published in peer reviewed journals are false...what is your opinion on this? I'm preparing a lecture for laughter yogi's about embodiment and the scientific proof of it...this puts everything in a totally different perspective: what's your opinion on it?
Heleen, love that idea of laughter yoga and embodiment.. Interesting statement about 75% of social studies. I'm curious to know what studies you are referring to apart from facial feedback hypo. [I tried it out myself feeling into my body.. I believe it]. If you have time, would you share please.. I'm a huge fan of anything that helps us 'be in our body' more.. be present..and feeling the feelings..
It's sad, the way the world is, that practices that have been around for ages and have empirical evidence.. enough for me to believe it without science.. but to market anything requires getting past the encultured barrier that it has to be ratified by science.
If I were giving the lecture, I'd have the group check into their bodies, then do some laughter yoga and ask them to check in again.. voila.. proof enough... they'll feel it in their body... I'd ask them if they'd ever gotten into one of those giggle things, hearing someone else laugh, catching their eye and the two building up some kind of crazy hysterical laughter energy.. That's so common.. we are co-infecting each other. I've felt so many things over the years, coaching people, feeling what some might call intuition, but knowing it's an ability to be present to data that we miss most of the time.. and the brain construes it without our conscious logic interfering..
How do we know so many things? We think we know it in our head, but I think we know it first in our body..
Hope your lecture went well and I'd love to have some links to research..
hi peta, i can t Find the studies, only an article in the paper talks about 75 pct, i searched but couldn t find. Cursus that is good news😁
LOL good to research.. even when it's something we want to believe..!
Ur fantastic!
He seems sort of narcissistic/obnoxious.
not really….and how are you ?
