I love Top 10's. My top 10: 1. Santa Maria 2. Glen More II: Chronicles 3. The Isle of Cats 4. Suburbia 5. The Magnificent 6. Castles of Mad King Ludwig 7. The Castles of Burgundy 8. Neuroshima Hex! 9. Quadropolis 10.Karuba
You guys are always so clutch and my go to for recommendations. My wife loves jigsaw puzzles and i heard tile placement games were great for jigsaw lovers, and you were the first that popped up with exactly the recommendations I was looking for. Thanks for all you do!
Oh man, many of these games I learned at Gen Con and it makes me think of how great those times were and how much we will miss it this year. It really hurts to think of waiting 14 more months. Thank God we have this community and videos like yours to help us connect and keep learning things. I remember saying hi to you guys at Gen Con last year when you were sitting at a table with One-Tar. Was looking forward to seeing everyone this year.
Big time same. It makes sense stuff getting cancelled so we can all be healthy and ready for next year but it’s such a bummer. Gonna miss everyone this summer. Hope you’re keeping entertained and still playing games!
Great list. I would have put Castles of Mad King Ludwig & Alhambra on it. Tile laying is my favorite game mechanic. Thanks for giving your 2-11, bc I am taking from the intro that Carcassonne is #1 lol.
My top 6 games with Tile Placement are: 6) Coal Baron 5) Quadropolis 4) Ex Libris (I admit, this is probably the weakest tile placement of the bunch) 3) Scorpius Freighter 2) Simurgh 1) Steam Works
Here's an older game from MindWare that we never hear about... Dizios! It's a family game with colorful tiles that create a pattern while you match the edges for points. It's an easy to learn Mensa Select game that can be played with children or adults, 2 to 4 players. They might not claim it to be but I see this game as easy to teach, abstract, thinkie and beautiful eyecandy for the artistic player!
Great list. I have yet to try Barenpark but it is on my wishlist. I think I’d be safe to buy this one before I play it. I find my tastes in games runs very close to yours
I do love to play Carpe Deim and the new Traintopia along with all the ones you listed. There are many new ones coming soon through kickstarter.... Public Market, Planet Unknown, and one I just backed... Minigolf Designer. They all look so cool and have some great mechanics.
My Top 4 Tile Games not including Carcassonne are: 4. Glass Road 3. Minerva 2. Super Motherload 1. Riverboat Nick and Mike you need to try these four if you haven't already!
Caverna! if you haven't played it yet, definitely put that on the top of your to-do list I agreed with everything on this list, but i'm sad that i already knew all of them lol
I played Suburbia once. I liked it, but the other half (and then main gaming partner) didn't. So I never got to try it again. But I really want to revisit it.
One of my favorite tile placement games is Tiny Towns. Now, before anyone gives me a hard time about the fact that there are no tiles, I think we can all agree that if those little cubes WERE tiles instead there would be no debate as to whether or not it was a tile placement game with several familiar tile placement mechanisms.
I agree with Cacao if you add a few expansions. They're not all equally good, but they really open up the game and allow for different strategies. Otherwise, it's just too straight forward and basic
Hmmm. I mean you make a good point with games where you build a tableau of cards. A lot of those games could easily be tiles. Definitely something to consider
I want to get a copy of Suburbia but I can’t find one that isn’t going for like $85 +... might as well get the collectors edition if I’m spending that kind of money
KINGDOMINO: By the way its good game, but its lack of quality, and not dont understand the components.. I dont get why they put number on the back. The quality of the tiles is not good. Too shiney. Dont like the artwork. Meeples useless, or at least 1 per player would be more than enough. cardboard throne also unnecessary. Apart from quality and components issues, the play is good, and I like it.
I love Top 10's. My top 10:
1. Santa Maria
2. Glen More II: Chronicles
3. The Isle of Cats
4. Suburbia
5. The Magnificent
6. Castles of Mad King Ludwig
7. The Castles of Burgundy
8. Neuroshima Hex!
9. Quadropolis
10.Karuba
This is TBM's best list to date. You spoke passionately and knowledgeably about these games, several of which are criminally overlooked.
You guys are always so clutch and my go to for recommendations. My wife loves jigsaw puzzles and i heard tile placement games were great for jigsaw lovers, and you were the first that popped up with exactly the recommendations I was looking for. Thanks for all you do!
Awww we’re so stoked to have a video that works for you in your time of need! Boom mission accomplished
Carcassonne is all time high, with many expansions as possible! Second Catan of course:')

Those panning shots of the games make them look soo good!
Great list. I would have put Castles of Mad King Ludwig & Alhambra on it. Tile laying is my favorite game mechanic. Thanks for giving your 2-11, bc I am taking from the intro that Carcassonne is #1 lol.
I love Takenoko as well. Alhambra is good. Sheep and Thief is technically cards but plays like a tile placement game.
Takenoko is amazing!!! It was one of my first gateway games, about 16 years ago I guess!
My top 6 games with Tile Placement are:
6) Coal Baron
5) Quadropolis
4) Ex Libris (I admit, this is probably the weakest tile placement of the bunch)
3) Scorpius Freighter
2) Simurgh

Great intros to these games guys thanks. Could you show more of the games during your video about games?
we can always try for that

We like Quadropolis, Habitats, Castles of Mad King Ludwig
My family really enjoys King & Queendomino! I'm really excited to try Barenpark, but don't own that one yet.
Great list. I have yet to try Barenpark but it is on my wishlist. I think I’d be safe to buy this one before I play it. I find my tastes in games runs very close to yours
Barenpark is a lot of fun and easy to bring to the table with family or new gamers. :)
I do love to play Carpe Deim and the new Traintopia along with all the ones you listed. There are many new ones coming soon through kickstarter.... Public Market, Planet Unknown, and one I just backed... Minigolf Designer. They all look so cool and have some great mechanics.
We need to play both of those again real soon there are so many good tile placement games it’s bonkers
Barenpark is one of my favorites and was a crossover I had with you from when I made this list.
Three good older ones with lots of player interaction:
Tigris and Euphrates, Reef Encounter and Khronos.
10. Planets
9. Keyflower
8. Isle of Cats
7. Karuba
6. Super Motherload
5. NMBR 9
4. Circle the Wagons
3. Azul
2. Feast for Odin
1. Patchwork
Samurai, Tigris & Euphrates, Ingenious, FITS, Glen More, Patchwork, and Castles of Burgundy are my favs.
I love the list.
For two players, you can't beat Akrotiri! And for 3 or 4 players, my pick would be Isle of Skye.
Just came across this older video. I'm wondering where you think Cascadia and Akropolis would fit into this list.
My Top 4 Tile Games not including Carcassonne are:
4. Glass Road
3. Minerva
2. Super Motherload
1. Riverboat
Nick and Mike you need to try these four if you haven't already!
Riverboat is fun!
I’ve heard of most of these and I want to play riverboat more and more!
Caverna! if you haven't played it yet, definitely put that on the top of your to-do list
I agreed with everything on this list, but i'm sad that i already knew all of them lol
Amen, brothers! Amen. Blessed be Phil Walker Harding.
Unfortunately I feel like you guys missed Santa Maria and Glen More!
They probably haven't played every tile laying game ever made.
Hmmmm. I mean you do make a very good point there!
Tiny Towns rocks!
You should do a top 10 board game apps!
I'd like to know what games is Mike good at cause he always says which games he is not good at ;-)
That list is so short...
I agree with Cacao if you add a few expansions. They're not all equally good, but they really open up the game and allow for different strategies. Otherwise, it's just too straight forward and basic
Superb list. Fully agree - although I like me some Indian Summer too. And I guess Babylonia doesn't count?
I (M) want to try Indian summer. And haven’t heard of Babylonia I gotta look it up!
Love Tales of Glory. I have you to thank for that.
My name was in the video as a patron!
Any opinion on the new Kickstater game, Magna Roma?
Castles of Burgundy: You don't get all the tiles anyway with promos added in.
2 player COB is the best!
According to BGG there are a bunch of expansions for Rajas of the Ganges. I haven't tried them, so just saying...
This is like having two polar bears talk about the quality of different desert sand...
I feel like polyomino games should be in a different category and shouldn't necessarily have been included in a Top 10 Tile Placement game
Do games that use cards instead of tiles qualify? If so, OddVille, Hokkaido and the wonderful Arboretum deserve a mention.
Hmmm. I mean you make a good point with games where you build a tableau of cards. A lot of those games could easily be tiles. Definitely something to consider
I want to get a copy of Suburbia but I can’t find one that isn’t going for like $85 +... might as well get the collectors edition if I’m spending that kind of money
I love Suburbia and bought the collector's edition and am looking to move the original with both expansions. Didn't think it was that rare
Wow that’s bonkers. Maybe they’re just not around so the price is up. That’s surprising though
My favorite one is Santa Maria
Nice we gotta try that one
No Patchwork? :-\
It juuuuuuust missed the list. We haven’t played it much in the last couple years. No real dramatic reason why just doesn’t hit the table as often
Isle of skye
How is "THE" tile laying game an honorable mention?
Bruncles Fatucles!!!!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tertiary* haha
KINGDOMINO: By the way its good game, but its lack of quality, and not dont understand the components.. I dont get why they put number on the back. The quality of the tiles is not good. Too shiney. Dont like the artwork. Meeples useless, or at least 1 per player would be more than enough. cardboard throne also unnecessary.
Apart from quality and components issues, the play is good, and I like it.
Boop.
Never heard of it.
Bee Boop Bop
