A lot of people think the latest gadget is going to fix all their shooting problems. Thank you for your concise description of what obviously works very well!
Extremely informational as always! Great timing since many here in the US are just getting into reloading due to ammo shortages. Little do new reloaders know that this can be a deep rabbit hole into OCD development rather than load development.
Also, you're going to find that ammo shortages are never corrected by reloading because reloading components are just as scarce as ammo is when a shortage comes along. Reloading is good for saving a little bit of money on what it cost to reload compared to buying factory ammo. A gain in accuracy is the main reason most people reload.
That was a great video. I like that you say that it all boils down to the shooter. I just came back from the range, zeroing, and doing load development for some Berger 210's, and Woddleigh 180s. I have a 3 shot group of 1/4 inch with my Bergers, and I was telling my brother about seating depth, and trying to tighten the group up....and, to make a long story short..he ask's me what wrong with that group...and made me realize...its not my load development I need to work on...its my shooting fundamentals..
Some beginners may get confused by terminology toward the front of the talk when the word “collet” was used when I am fairly sure you meant bushing. The Lee Collet Dies are great dies, but not to be confused with the bushing dies. Good talk and great perspectives based on experience. Hope you and Sam have a Healthy and Happy New Year!
Adding info as we may all know, “collet” is a solution Lee uses (possibly others). Though technically the same concept, they do work marginally different hence the word used. My best to you and hopeful long and straight shots 👍
Mark, another great video.............I've been reloading since 1982 and have most of all the new gadgets, but I still only use an RCBS Rockchucker.......lol Happy New Year to you and Sam
Making the rifle and nut behind the trigger work well is critical, like you rightfully point out. I try everything but want to mention a few of my best upgrades the last few years. Your adjustable base and shooting mat are some of my best investments. We try to make very small bullets go very far with reasonable consistency and hitting the plate with a 308 or 260AI at 2000 + yards is our game. The adjustable bag base made a significant difference in our game and adding your shooting mat a few weeks ago rounded that out nicely. Happy New Year to you from a wintery Central Valley of California
Thank you guys for the great information I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into getting this information to share with us thanks for another great year of videos and I send my best wishes to both of you for next year.
I enjoyed hearing a long range shooter talk about reloading, especially because you keep it simple, which I think is key to accurate reloading, i’m not a long range shooter and I shoot guns that are considered by everybody to be inaccurate, but I do enjoy making my lever action shoots as accurate as I can. Thank you for excellent information
Thanks for letting us know what you do,Iam ditto on most of what you talked about,I don't load as much as you LOL, but I like shiny brass it keeps better for me , I prep it and load when I want to load ,I don't have a anealer yet but maybe one day.Love the channel Guys.❤️👍
Thanks for the information. Sorry you had to drive home to get away from the fog. I recently took the expander ball our of my 6.5 Creedmoor FL die and started using a K&M expander mandrel. Hope to get out and try the new rounds soon. Weather is an issue here as well. Cheers!
now this info i really really appreciate it because everyone who I have seen group well does not want to go over their reloading process at all. that said thank you. Nice to see that more affordable equipment can give you good results. love it
Another great video, information and discussion, thank you so much. On another note, Happy NewYear! Thank you guys so much for the past years and all the great videos you have put out for us here and may the year 2021 be prosperous and enjoyable for you two and of course for the rest of us too :) Cheers!
I noticed that too reloading 50BMG... For me one of the most difficult to work with... Especially military once fired brass. Appreciate your time and talking about how you do things.
Happy New Yes My Friends!! Love the Annealez product. A forecasted 2021 purchase for me. On the die I’ve added a k&w arbor press and using LE Wilson dies for my 6CM and 6.5X284 Norma. Also purchased a 6mm Dasher set but waiting for the rifle build to be completed. Have noticed better ogive to base lengths as well as concentricity after trimming neck thinkness. My best to you and Sam. Back in the donation side of things once things level out financially.
There’s a lot of great information in this video that many rifle shooters and reloaders from the beginner to the more experienced can only benefit from . Thanks for making this very informative video . Happy New Year to team Mark & Sam
HAPPY NEW YEAR ....PS. So much to know so much to learn , I love your classes they’re making me a better more accurate shooter and teacher . CHEERS to YOU BOTH !
Looking forward to seeing your new charge weigher system. If its the one i think of I've heard alot of good about them. It seems to be between that and the prometheus v2 for folks who want accurate and fast
I've been wanting to get into reloading just to tinker with hunting loads and I like to play at range with some of my hunting rifles but there's a bunch of videos where they're all using progressive presses or latest/greatest wiz bang stuff that make it seem like if you're not using it you're not going to be able to make good bullets. I've been slowly piecing together some stuff but haven't invested in the few main items but I think you made my mind up and just going to go with a single stage press and some good dies and see where that gets me... Great video as always!!!
Happy New Year and my it be Prosperous. Great video, and the one thing I find that's save me time is the Henderson Precision gen 2 case trimmer, it trims to full length and does the clean up for me.
Thanks for sharing your process Mark. I find it very interesting you don't clean your brass each time. Thinking about it, what you say makes sense on that but I do like having the shiny stuff myself. Form over function on that I guess for me. Happy New Year to you and Sam, stay safe and inlook forward to next year!
Hi Mark, when you talk about cleaning your brass and not cleaning, I was wondering if you end up with carbon build up inside the case or is it not enough to worry about
Like yourself I've tried all the many, many details of reloading and some I've stuck with and some I let fall away when I don't see the benefit. I now reload to what type of shooting I'm doing - i.e. hunting accuracy, long range accuracy, military accuracy, etc.
Happy New year Mark and Sam!! Great video, very informative. Now for the fun part. I saw a bow and arrow in the background in the beginning of the video. Do you reload for that as well? Can you take that out to ELR? I could go on and on. It just struck my funny bone when I saw it and thought, this guy and girl can shoot out to the next zip code, yet he has a bow and arrow too!!
All great stuff. I feel like I've got a system I'm happy with, I'm kinda on a speed kick. Not crazy fast but I'd like to take out some of the slack in my process. I've enjoyed using expander mandrels but I think it's asking a lot of a single stage press in time alone. I've found that the inline fabrication case ejector speeds things up a lot but limits the LA calibers (especially if you have the bullet seating collar that drops down) I think I'm moving towards a dillon 550c, just where I'm at in life, family, work etc.
Mark, I just watched your .270 video also. You know there are folks out there that will expect their off the shelf from Wal-Mart .270 whatever with a factory load 130 gr Remington SP will reach out there now. 😆 Anyways... This reloading advice is gold.
I have been waiting for this video for a long time. You referred to many reloading dilemmas many of us have. I see all these people spending days or even weeks in their reloading rooms doing all the unnecessary stuff. As far as I can see these are not the guys who are winning the competitions. I am wondering whether turning necks if you are buying Lapua or Peterson brass is really necessary.
I have the Hornady Lock-N-Load and it is horrendous at trickling any powder at its lowest speed. I get charges +/- 2 grains when I weigh it with my other scales.
I like your practical approach Mark. Lots of nonsense and black magic marketing in reloading. I think your results speak for themselves. I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and keep it simple and just use the end results, average over time, as my gauge.

Very good information. I think for me personally I'm trying to do to much even though I just shoot for fun. I'll probably end up toning it down a little and focus on the basics. Happy New Year!
