To me making this argument is comparable to going to one guy who lives sustainably and see they can't afford much and go to another house who has a completely unsustainable lifestyle and then conclude the second guy is the one to be like. If it's not sustainable then its not worth advocating for, and a system where the population can only maintain their standard of living by relying on people who are generally homophobic, antisemitic and just generally sexist seems to me to be a tad ridiculous. No one I've talked to really disagrees with that description of what's going on besides saying its a bit "unfair" without actually making a specific criticism, but most go out of their way to ignore what the outcome of this will be over a long enough timeline which to me seems obvious.

@@hape3862 Then you should have an obvious argument against one of the following:
      1. Birth rate among native born citizens will continue to be below replacement in every country.
      2. Immigration will continue to be primarily from the nearest countries with a growing population which in Europe's case are going to be the Middle East and North Africa.
      3. You still need a minimum ratio of workers to retired to make these policies work.
      4. Immigrants from the Middle East and North Africa are going to continue to be illiberal due to Islam.
That's all you really need to believe that what's going on in Europe is inevitable and the degree to which you people are unable to handle such a simple and straightforward conclusion from a small number of points that are very unlikely to change. I don't think you do actually have anything and are just hoping I'm deranged because you don't like the conclusion.

As a person with a Chinese lineage living in Japan, learning about Europe and how its countries and regions have overcome various barriers/borders to form a unified yet highly diverse identity has planted an idea of a single East Asian identity deep inside me.
I can talk about how envious I am of Europeans for hours. In Asia (and I'm sure also pretty much all of the world except for Europe and its colony nations such as the US), ever since we came under the pressure to modernize at around 19-20th century, when we studied foreign books or ideas, that "foreign" only meant European. Despite the heavy geographical and historical connections between different East Asian countries, I feel like we've become so fixated on this idea of catching up the West that we've forgotten to properly look at each other, and now the biggest thing characterizing East Asian international sentiment is mutual hate.
It's not all bad though, if it was I wouldn't be able to hold this identity for too long. Past several decades of successive economic miracles and liberalizations, first in South Korea (1980s), then in Taiwan (1990s), and finally in China (2000s), have completely transformed economic and cultural dynamics of this region. Where it used to be only Japan and HongKong that had any international significance here until 1980s, now we have KPOP, Korean and Taiwanese electronics, and a Chinese economic domination in every sector. I vividly dream of a day when the remnants of Japanese colonialism, communist illiberal political systems, isolated bilateral dependence on the US can all be put in our museums and replaced by post-colonial, liberal democratic, multilateral alliances, and we can finally appreciate how similar yet wonderfully different we are.
I'm sure we'll get there some day. Happy Europe Day from East Asia!

In contrast, all major political parties treat the word "american" as pejorative in describing a policy in Europe. The resentment from Europeans is pretty one directional and pervasive, showing up in the most random places like in board games referring to a genre as Ameritrash. Why this hatred is so consistent is something you should think about.

@@santostv. So I remember when I was in England in 2016 right after they voted to leave, and was surprised when the students I talked to said the UK wasn't a nation (or maybe a country? don't quite remember) but instead 4 nations which shared one government.
Now I recognize that there is a definition of nation being used here, but for most people it absolutely does not matter. If the EU becomes like the UK then it also would not matter to anyone outside of the EU, what would ultimately matter is who do you contact if you are a foreign government trying to engage in foreign policy, who holds the reigns of power?
It's absolutely true that currently that power is with the heads of state of the various countries. But what is weird to me is that it is incredibly obvious that the people running the EU want to make it one country, that they have been since the 90s, and that anyone outside the EU was both aware of this and completely unsurprised the direction it has gone than people who live within it.

As the youtuber, Dr Ludwig once said: every man has 3 cultural identities: regional, national and civilizational.
I am by region, Moldavian, by nation Romanian and by civilization, European. And im proud of all three identities equally.
And i hope yall are too. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your culture just as long as you let others be who they want to be and respect their decisions and merits (and criticise their fllaws).

Europe is Europe. It is truely beautiful in its rich history and the ways its trying to improve each and everyday! Europe is like many other continents and countries, with its trials and tribulations, mistakes and greviences. Their mistakes are no different. However, I personally have never seen a continent ravenged by war and fueds to a now a a big economic power house rivaling (or trying to) with the US, Russia, and / or China. Likewise, I have never seen a continent that was plagued by war for years to a now improving Union of many countries. A true beauty of political greatness, world wonders, landscapes, diverse peoples, and its bountiful history since the Roman Emire and the greek city states.

Europe is great and anyone who has had the opportunity to compare it with other places knows that, while many take I for granted. The negativity that some commenters see in this channel may have to do with the fact that this channel tries to discuss topics and maybe sketch out a solution to problems that absolutely need it so that Europe stays great for our children and maybe as beacon to humanity... I don't follow you to remind myself why it is great but to try and do the latter! Keep up the good work!

Most of your videos cover all the trade-offs made to have progressive social democracies. We have a more aggressive green policy, causing farmer strikes. We are less business-friendly because of worker protections. Our taxes are higher because we provide more social services. Most are because we put people and equity before growth, slowing us down.
Still, you're looking at aggressive green policies, worker protections and more social services than most countries in the world.
I don't mind slipping into third place economically because Twitter cant lay off the 1000+ entire Dublin office on Elons whim, or now in Ireland we can't destroy our boglands to burn one of the most harmful fuels, turf, which I actually really miss but it is for the greater good.

If you study centrally and decentralized countries, you will understand why the EU has and will always have some challenges that cannot be solved optimally. In addition, it does not help that the EU's foundation is based on extensive rules and bureaucracy. Critical analysis is fine, but also positive. It is healthy for the dialogue you have. The type of enlightened thinking, policies, and outcomes you romantically highlight (I say this as a big compliment), is of course part of Europe’s history. But it is not its reality today. You are excellent at subtlety pointing this out.

That’s not a European state. It’s an explicitly anti-European state. That’s reason enough to leave them off the maps. As for Belarus, Lukashenko has been Putin’s lapdog since the ‘00s. He belongs in the same Not-Europe basket Putin does.
Could these things change? Of course they could. There’s no _a priori_ reason that Russia couldn’t adopt the values that define modern European states. At present, though, it has actively rejected those values, and therefore are not European.

It's important to highlight what's good and what works in Europe, and that's a lot more than the "freedom to be critical". There are so many things here that really are great and which should be savored. I definitely think that when you're being very critical (like you are) it's important to balance that out with more positive stuff. It's too easy to draw the wrong overall conclusion if you only look at the negatives
