Great job on the hatchet 🪓!! Even better that it belonged to your grandfather!! Now you can give it to your grandchildren!!! (After you use it for 30 or 40 years.) Well done sir!!! Thanks for sharing your video with us!! The Old Army Scout…
If you had any information on when the hatchet was originally purchased, there are lists of dates of manufacture, and during each of those time spans, the hatchets were painted a different color. Also, you might want to look on the sides of the head to see if there's a boy scouts emblem embossed there. Bridgeport was the official Boy Scout Camp Axe for many years.
Brought back some VERY old memories!!! Ultra nice restoration; better video!!! Merry Christmas!!! Take care, be safe, best wishes and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 👨🌾✝️🙏🎄☃️
Yeps, Holding a chunk of wood with your hand, while cutting towards it with a circular saw is definately not safe. You know they make these things called clamps, same thing used to hold the wooden handles to the metal axe haft later on.
Just an FYI on peening the pins on the handle: you used the wrong end of your ball PEEN hammer! That's what the rounded end on the hammer is for....peening! :)
@@Robs-shop The proper way is NOT to force it. Let the belt do the work. Take it easy and take your time with sanding. Don't push the work piece into the belt.
If using that sander wrong and popping the belt scared you, I can’t wait for your fear when you seriously injure yourself with that circular saw. Also, we see you actually own clamps. Why in God’s name could you not use them when playing with the power tools. You’re lucky to have all your digits.
@@Robs-shop, I am not joking. Seeing the wounds on your fingers after just doing a simple polish and handle fix, I fear for your life if the job were bigger.

You did a fantastic job with that Bridgeport hatchet.
Thanks!
I have a Bridgeport from 1957, still in great shape. My dad bought it for me.
That is a downright impressive restoration! Your grandfather would be very pleased if he saw his old hatchet now. 👍
👍
Great restoration and always nice to keep a bit of family history going too👍🏻
Thanks!
Simply a beautiful restoration job, love the handle. Makes me want to restore my.manky old axe. Keep up the great work👍
Wow! Used that hatchet for years with a broken handle. Great to see it all fixed up
Thanks 👍it was a Fun project!
I restored a very similar hatchet about 6 months ago. Great job.
Thanks, it was definitely a fun project.
Beautiful job.
Thanks you

Yeah it has the boys scout emblem on the side. I’m not sure when it was made though
@Robs-shop before you refurbished it or even after, was there any paint left at all, like yellow or green, perhaps?
Very nice work!
Thanks!
Благодарю мастера за отличную работу. Все сделано с душой. Благодарю за труд. Удачи вам на канале. 🛠️🪓📹👍🔥
Thank you! I appreciate it
Man.... that came out nice. Every time I visit my Grandmothers (92) I rummage around in the garage and beat my uncle and cousin to a vintage tool.
Thanks! Yeah I find a lot of good stuff at estate sales in the garage or basement. Old vintage tools are fun to find and restore

Thank you! Merry Christmas from ny

They are nice little hatchets, very handy to keep next to the wood stove for kindlin
Nice job brother. Like from India🇮🇳
Thank you! 😊
That's really kewl to know it was ur Grandpa's so kewl.
Thanks!
Thanks!
happy new year Rob’s shop
good job
Thank you! Happy new year!
Super tare 👍👍👍👍🍯🍯
Good stuff 👍
You should have used brass for the handle pegs. The pounding of the nails could have cracked the handles.
Yeah kinda just using what I had on hand to make it work.
FYI- that scared the bejesus out of me too!! HA!!
Haaa! 😂

Great video on How not to restore an OG hatchet.
Well it’s mine and I got it fixed up with what I had on hand and I’m happy with it! Thanks for watching
cool restoration but keep more savety on your workplace...
Thanks!
I saw another one of these on Tom Gunn Tools
I’ll have to check it out!
What kind of punch was used on the nails there?
It’s an old pexto rivet punch. It’s made to round off the end of a rivet, worked pretty good at peening the nail
Do you think it ruined the temper on it all?
I don’t believe so, no

That is true!
I love watching people use a sanding belt the wrong way lol its that snap of the belt that gets me everytime hahahaha 😅
What’s the proper way?
@@Robs-shop its a vertical belt going side to side with something that long always breaks the belt its common sense.

Watching you use a metal hammer on a metal tool was literally painful.
4 out of 10 maybe
👍
Nice restoration but surprising how you still have all your fingers
I have a lot of experience with a circular saw. Not saying there’s not a chance of loosing a digit. A band saw would be ideal.
