For the Runegate cards, you need to have equal to or grater than the resource cost in runechants, it doesn't reduce the cost per runechant. You either have equal to the cost and it costs nothing or you pitch full price. Still cool though and no doubt we will see some insane runeblade shenanigans. Bastion of unity would be good but as soon as the turn ends it loses the +1 and still has a -1 counter on it and breaks so you could potentially block with it twice in one turn for 2 and then 1 but need your opponent to break the chain.
Temper pops at the end of combat chain, the +1 is until end of turn, so bastion of unity will survive the first turn you block with it, it will just become a shield with block 0. What actually makes it bad is the fact that you have to give up a weapon for it and there’s not really a good enough one handed warrior weapon that stands on its own.
