    Dickens is truly one of my favorite authors and Great Expectations is still by far my fave! I have his whole collection and it's a first edition New York press that was published in his lifetime. I absolutely treasure all of these amazing books! I am going to share it on my channel, I just love every single book!

    Yes!! I love Charles Dickens so much. I haven't read all of his works, but I want to. A Tale of Two Cities is my absolute favorite by him, and my favorite book of all time. I love how much of himself he poured into his works.

    I've had so many books held together by tape and prayers XD my first Dickens book was Great Expectations. I liked it! Some chapters were great, others were boring, but I still overall liked it!

    If you want a series with French Canadian characters, a good chunk of the Bones series by Kathy Reichs takes place in Quebec

    I’ve studied the “Eve/Mary” paradox of medieval and Renaissance femininity extensively in college and it’s so fascinating.

    yes! I was in awe with Silence of the girls. I feel that maybe the problem with so many people disliking it is that there was some marketing campaign that promised something that this book is not. You need to go blind in it. I think it is a book about the war and it’s victims.. The captive slave and the soldier. Every character was complex and fascinating.

    • @emmiereads
      @emmiereads  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so too! Completely agree

    Awww it makes me so sad you didn’t like 2 of my all time favorite series, but I completely understand. The books aren’t for everyone and that’s why reading is so great because there is something for everyone. I marathoned The first 3 books in the An Ember in the Ashes series at the beginning of September of last year. I read the first 2 physically and listened to the 3rd on audio because I didn’t own it at the time. The fourth and final book comes out this year and I am so excited. I will say, while I did like Laia she was on the lower end of the scale when compared to others. Helene though I loved her character so much! Also, with Eragon I understand why you wouldn’t like it. Usually I don’t like books that the plot is basically the characters traveling, but for some reason this one just worked for me 🤷🏻‍♀️. I also really enjoyed and laughed later in the series when Saphira becomes intoxicated. Drunk dragons definitely make for a fun time 🤣. Loved this video as always my dear 💕

      Saphira was the best thing in Eragon honestly, and that sounds amazing oh my gosh, thank you lovely

      * e m m i e * she is quite the character. I like her snarky personality. Always oozing with sarcasm. Love it.
      Of course dear 💕

    Ember in the ashes disappointed me. But I absolutely loved Helene so I gave the rest of the series a chance. I’m so glad I did. Because in rest of the series we could read from Helene’s perspective. She gets even more complex and wonderful. And the plot twist in second book was really good and changed the direction of the story.

    • @emmiereads
      @emmiereads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm okay honestly might consider reading the rest just for Helene aha

    I'm so glad you enjoyed Dickens for the reasons you stated, definitely a lot more interesting characters and an element of whimsy! I'm so excited for you to finish 100 Years of Solitude, can't wait to hear your thoughts! :D
    I can tell you are multi-lingual and take the effort to pronounce things properly, Tahir is pronounced with the stress on the first syllable, so its TAH-hir (hir being pronounce like him not heer) and the r at the end is a hard r not rolled.

      @emmiereads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ADORED 100 Years wow wow wow and oh amazing, aha I had a feeling I was rolling an r where an r should not be rolled, thank you so much for telling me

      @@emmiereads I find whenever I read a book translated from Spanish, it carries the beauty and flexibility of the language into English well, I find other languages can get a little lost in translation...I've had similar experiences reading other books as well which were originally published in Spanish, but 100 Years...I went into it knowing nothing and was sucker punched in the best way hahahah

    Emma, you might like The Trigger by Arthur C Clarke and Michael P. Kube-McDowel, a book that operates along the lines of Sleeping Giants but with perhaps more ... sobriety? / Eragon was supposedly written when Paolini was 15, which may account for some of its flaws. / You, Emma, are a light shining in the darkness. Thank you.

    So many people love Ember in the Ashes and I couldn’t get through the second book. It was so boring and I didn’t like any of the characters. Helene is the best one. Elias is not an attractive love interest lol. The plot is...not amazing.

    But you HAD to have loved Saphira! I mean come on, she was smarter than half the people in the book.
