When I first heard this, I fell in love with her voice. Just holy shit, she’s one of the best singers alive, that is no light statement and no exaggeration.
yeah, I better the sound editors have a really easy job editing her voice bc she is near-flawless if not exactly perfect every time. You should see her song association video with Terrell where she sings completely a capella, and he accurately describes it as if she has a piano in her head lmao
No one sings as good, as clear, as perfect. She showed out. Her confidence is insane. She’s sure of herself, knows how good she is. Has amazing breath control. She trusts her voice and for it to go where it needs to. No pressure or strain in her singing. Showed them all how the pros do it. She should have won for the best song.
Acqua Di Do you know how far she had to project for the people in the back to hear her during The Color Purple? She has proved herself already. 🤣 Also, her tone was “ok”?!?! Her tone was full of emotion yet strong at the same time. And when she belted? It was so powerful (even during the riff!)
@@corazonbeso Who says she said that? Or is it just supposition? This is an honest question since I do not know if history books have written that account as being her last statement, and if so who recorded the history?

If they were judging it at the time she would have got it - because her performance was exceptional - but the recording and production are what they listen to..
@@dianneraymont5971 I doubt the voters even listened to the recording. I've listened to Elton John's song, and it's still not the "Best" of the year. The voting body voted on popularity/longevity of the artist not the artistry itself. There was an article in Forbes magazine before the Oscars regarding who should win and who would actually win. The author said Cynthia should win, but Elton would because of familiarity. So, the "fix" was already in.
Abbie J they a really didn’t though. Academy voters rarely watch the films they are voting for. Most of the time they just see what others award shows have done or look at popularity and familiar faces. Elton had already won an Oscar in the 90s and is ELTOK JOHN. Cynthia stood no chance because she is well knowing In the theatre circuit not Hollywood.Plus they have never been to good and representation or diversity. The Oscars are a game and will forever be that until they take film seriously
Sara if you look at the winners and nominees statistics it shows an unfair advantage towards certain films and people. Also many voters have gone of record to say that they don’t take their position very seriously. You just have to google it.
She doesn’t need an Oscar to announce her greatness her gifts are a stellar performance every time we get to witness them. Cynthia Erivo is a legend whether you like it or not! 🤷🏾♂️
Exactly! Besides winning Oscars has little to do with actual merit and everything to do with how much money you throw at the academy. This woman is breathtaking!
She sings perfectly, no autotune, nothing. She sang better when she was live than when it was in a recording studio. How did she not instantly win. Don't agree? Feel free to go to 1:46 or 2:56 or 3:00, actually literally go to anywhere in the song and listen for ten seconds. She is perfect.
This performance might get Grammy academy attention to give a nomination for best gospel performance and absolutely best original song for tv, mini series or film.
I can vividly remember the chills I had when I first heard this song and have watched this performance specifically, SHE actually in all honesty, don't need oscars, SHE is more than an oscar. Might as well start giving a new award, "Erivo" just sound SO great for me!
I love that she didn’t overdo it. We are still blown away by her voice without being distracted to the point that we don’t take in the lyrics and message
Exactly! She is a powerhouse with a voice that could blow the roof at every note... but she doesn't feel the need to scream her lungs out. She expresses emotions through every bit of technique and subtlety she possesses and she knows a whisper sometimes says more than a shout.
I feel the best vocalists out there do this, they know what sounds good and just because they can doesn't mean they're gonna go all in all the time bc sometimes less is more. It takes humility and self awareness. She's amazing.
This woman is something else, the fact she did a great performance in the movie Harriet which was incredibly moving. AND has a voice that could stop the world spinning on its axis , what a talent

I agree, man. I get chills everytime 💖

When she sings, she takes you on a journey. Not many singers can do that . I get goosebumps when she performs.
If you haven't yet, be sure to go listen to her sing "I'm here" on Broadway. FLOOORED me

she sings like shes carrying the soul of many of my ancestors and it moves me every time i can really "feel it in my bones" beautiful black queen
She sounds exactly the same if not better live and that in itself is amazing
she sound better
yeah, I better the sound editors have a really easy job editing her voice bc she is near-flawless if not exactly perfect every time. You should see her song association video with Terrell where she sings completely a capella, and he accurately describes it as if she has a piano in her head lmao
@@baeah3021 I think I watched that right before I watched this! lol yeah she's amazing
It’s her Broadway background!
Shes classically trained
Derrick McDowelll I’m aware. Thanks. :)
Her tone was ok and she wasnt loud and couldn’t project that good.
Nat Lopez...you’re absolutely right! Best song I’ve heard for ages! Got goosebumps when she sang!
Her voice is pure. No exaggerated runs. You actually listen to the lyrics and feel the emotions.

When I watch Cynthia I can feel and see the passion in her voice and her work. Its truly admirable.
This is why the Oscar's is garbage. This performance was everything. They don't deserve you
If they were judging it at the time she would have got it - because her performance was exceptional - but the recording and production are what they listen to..
@@benjaminjackson9449 are there any sources or is that just a theory ?
Sara if you look at the winners and nominees statistics it shows an unfair advantage towards certain films and people. Also many voters have gone of record to say that they don’t take their position very seriously. You just have to google it.
She doesn’t need an Oscar to announce her greatness her gifts are a stellar performance every time we get to witness them. Cynthia Erivo is a legend whether you like it or not! 🤷🏾♂️

Before I knew the context of the song...the fact that it has to do with Harriet and the underground railroad...I began to cry when I heard it acapella cause I heard Jesus talking to me. This song and most of it's verses fits whats to come so perfectly...if your a child of God. The seperating line...of the wheats and tares. So many of us are tired and we look to the sky everyday for his return and his promise. This kingdom is not our own. I look forward to that eternal life with him in his kingdom that he is preparing for us. This song hit different when I heard it today. I think it's God speaking through her to his children.
