That part of the movie just accumulated to the sadness that was the boys life. So deviod of love and affection that of course the only female who pays attention to him with care he wants to marry.
I was thinking about that! Now that she's freeing up a bit of her time as she said in a previous video, it's really showing in her work. The dress in this video was just simply stunning! She seemed somewhat more relaxed and it showed in the details, i.e. the little hint of lace under the layers of tulle. It was just so subtle and gorgeous. And all that hand-stitching made it a masterpiece.

Totally agree. I just hope that she can send us (me really) some pointers on how she makes such Awesome videos. Also Please tell me where you fabric shop! That embroidered fabric is beautiful, as are the accoutrements. Thank you for listening to random old(ish) person.
The 1993 version is my mom's favorite movie. It was filmed at Highclere Castle which is where they filmed Downton Abbey. I went there when I was studying abroad last year. TOTAL out-of-body experience!!!
I haven’t watched it since I was little, but I do remember being absolutely terrified of the part when her parents die and she’s hiding under the bed. Also there was some kind of figurine giraffe or something of the sort. So yeah, fever dream does sum it up pretty well.
Lol, it’s the closest one to the book, but yeah, it was weird, especially with the Colin wanting to marry his cousin line, I have no idea why they added that in there!
The first time I watched it was on a bus trip to NYC with my parents when I was like 6. I was heartbroken I couldn't get mcnuggets at 9 am and was absolutely terrified of mummies for years after because of the museum. The movie did not improve my experience 😂.
My 6yo at the reveal: "I love it! I want it. You should make me one." Child, I have way too much on my sewing list to add a new project to it right now. Lol

Okay, I am now completely and utterly obsessed with this project and have an insane need to make some sot of flowy, magical, forest, fairy, elf, something or other dress like this for myself! Do I have anywhere to wear such a project? No, of course not, but I will happily wander through my house in it going about my daily tasks.
Frodo was giving me major Nana (Peter Pan) vibes in that little white bonnet. And I envy your ability to sew with sheer fabric, it's like sewing water...but more slippery.
One thing I learned by living in a haunted sorority is that you can’t be too impressed by the ghost. I’d be way too busy to be scared of the door rattling, so I’d just tell the ghost that if they wanted to scare me they’d have to conjure up an apparition.
I just wanted to say that the difference between your newest (post channel-update) videos and your older ones is... crazy, not just in quality (because I could tell you had so much more breathing room for the project and the editing) but because the editing was so much more... playful? Like, I could tell you had so much fun making this video, and editing it. You seem so relaxed and happy and creative, and I just... made me so happy to see?? i've been watching you in earnest since the beginning of 2020, and I never realized how much pressure you put on yourself to put out videos each week until these newer videos, where you have so much more space and time to make something you're proud of. I just want to know how happy I was to see it, and how much happier I feel when I watch your videos now. And I just want to validate your choice to change your channel schedule--I am SO happy to wait a little longer for a video if it's full of you being creatively joyful and relaxed. Congrats to you for doing what's best for you; as a fan, I'm so happy for you. (Also, I must reiterate my thanks to you for making your video about watching the Mummy with an Egyptologist; Dr. Darnell bought my grandparents' house after my grandma's passing, and I was too young at the time to think to stay in touch with her and her husband, so when I saw my grandma's living room in your video, where I spent so many happy christmases and easters, I sat on my couch and cried for about an hour, while watching your hilarious video over and over. it probably feels insignificant to you but thank you for bringing Dr. Darnell and that gorgeous house back into my life.) Sincerely, A fairly recent but VERY enthusiastic fan
I was so obsessed with the original Secret Garden. When I was a kid, I would find old keys and carry them around. I would pretend that every garden was my secret garden, and “unlock” them with my magic keys.
Oh my gosh same And one time I locked myself out of my room because I wanted to open it with a key I found, but my door didn't have a keyhole somehow so, dreams and doors were crushed.
Yes, the original is very beautiful. As for the remake Idk since I haven't seen it. But remakes have proven to never be as good as the original. Let alone better.
I read the book first and the 90's film was very true to it a bit of extra embellishment, because film, but I could live with it. Dame Maggie Smith was perfect as Mrs Medlock.
Wanted to congratulate you on what a good job you did on this dress. You don’t give yourself enough credit. It was really pretty. I love flowers and anything floral. This was beautiful Rachel, can’t wait to see what you come up with in the future. Your talent just keeps improving💚 sending you love from the UK🇬🇧
I swear rachel's videos are my escape from reality at this point. the REVEAL part is 10/10 am literally mesmerized *-* the music took me to a whole new world I NEED TO KNOW THE NAME OF THE MUSIC PLAYING T__T
When I was five, my parents let me pick out a name for our new dog, and without hesitation I picked Archie solely because I liked to yell this moment from the 1993 version: “Ahhhrchie, I’m in the gaaaaaarden”.
just last week I heard a woman call for her son, Archie, who'd run off, in an almost identical tone to the film and I completely froze. like does she know? does she not know? I can't tell her?? but then I had "I'm in the garden" echoing in my head the rest of the day 😅
I really appreciate that it said several bad puns laters and immediately cuts to the chest cups. Makes me wonder what the puns were really about... I appreciate this.
I'm generally a passive viewer but I was absolutely delighted to suddenly see a new video pop up on my feed. Rachel Maksy's videos help me decompress after a hard day working with the public.
Hey I hope you see this! The easiest way to get those flower applications from the tulle fabric is getting a wood burning tool, and tracing them! The burning tool cauterizes the fabric so the embroidery doesn’t unravel, and you can attach them anywhere (you just wanna clean the tool tip a lot so you don’t get scorch marks on the fabric)
Awesome! I just searched wood burning tool.....and read a Soldering Iron works at a lower temperature, so I will go search for the old 1 in my shed! Free is good
My favourite comments from this video: “Resting stitch face” “Pinocchio titties” “And if only you could see my posture during this process. Oh look, there it is” Ode to spring needs to be my theme music to life Did you say, hobbit mating dress?
The 93 secret garden was my favorite movie as a kid. Mary was a huge style inspiration for me, especially as the garden gets healthier and her clothes get brighter. In my head, Mary ends up with Dickon, the farmer boy, not her jerk cousin.
"Resting Stitch Face" has no right to be as funny as it is, but I think I'd throw money at RSF merch. I love your ability to make something beautiful and have me laugh-crying throughout the entire process.

Agreed.
I just love how you are like: Bodice? The most complicated thing one can sew? Ain't gonna use an actual pattern, Ama just make my own.
Rachel just revealed her true nature as a beautiful ethereal magical woodland elf and you cannot convince me otherwise.
Rachel coming out as a faerie
Hahaha fine with me!!! 😂😂
Totally agree. I just hope that she can send us (me really) some pointers on how she makes such Awesome videos. Being in my mid 40's, I now need a 5yr old to explain my phone to me (not far from the truth. The girls all have iPhone so they are of little assistance in this matter). Also Please tell me where you fabric shop! That embroidered fabric is beautiful, as are the accoutrements. Thank you for listening to random old(ish) person.
'Twas a very eloquent ode to spring. 10/10
Did anybody else hear Deanna Giulietti in their head while reding this comment or is it just me?
I came for the sewing, I stayed for your amazing, sparkly, quirky personality! You, my Lady, are a fantabulous soul!
The 1993 version is my mom's favorite movie. It was filmed at Highclere Castle which is where they filmed Downton Abbey. I went there when I was studying abroad last year. TOTAL out-of-body experience!!!
It's my favorite, too. I haven't seen the new one because I'm afraid I'll be angry😅
@@ashleejones1690 SAAAAAME! I’m scared... Also, loooved the musical!
I watched that one too!
Secret Garden was my favourite book...have avoided all adaptations as don't want to spoil my book love
Never knew about Highclere. Thanks for the info !
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt that way about the original Secret Garden movie. I remember it being like a weird fever dream.
Fever dream but I still kinda like it's weirdness? Very like Gothic horror
Maggie Smith being brilliant though 😅
The first time I watched it was on a bus trip to NYC with my parents when I was like 6. I was heartbroken I couldn't get mcnuggets at 9 am and was absolutely terrified of mummies for years after because of the museum. The movie did not improve my experience 😂.
My 6yo at the reveal: "I love it! I want it. You should make me one."
Child, I have way too much on my sewing list to add a new project to it right now. Lol
The amazing thing is anything that happens to the skirt can get fixed with MORE FLOWERS.
im proud of you for not just hot gluing the flowers on
Can we talk about you matching that doll on the shelf exactly, though? Omg.
“I didn’t choose floor troll life. Floor troll life chose me” needs to be a tshirt lol
yes yes it does
I dont care what anyone says....... Rachel is the new bob ross.. no mistakes just happy accidents... that get turned into comedy gold. I dont like a lot of content creators, but when I want to learn and laugh I go straight to this channel. As a dude who is sarcastic and sews.... this is my heaven.
i bet your boyfriend/husband (haven't been watching these for long so i honestly don't know) thinks your the most beautiful person when filming the reveal scene. you just look so happy! i love your videos!
Things I desperately want from this video in ADDITION to the gorgeous dress: Cream embroidered mask, every adorable stretchy crop top worn, the green pinafore, THAT PIN CUSHION omg, "aesthetic basement"
Hehehehee
HELL YEAH FOR NATURE 🌱🌿
Edited to add: whenever I step on my cat's paws I stop everything and spent 15 minutes gently stroking his face and telling him I love him and I'm sorry. I think he gets underfoot deliberately now because he's figured out it's a good way to get attention when I'm doing housework
Haha saaaame I feel so guilty even though it's completely her fault🤦♀️
@@liv97497 I know right? My cat is always underfoot and will run under my feet literally as I'm walking, and I have to fall over if I don't want to step on his entire body 🤦♀️
@@xXJokerAtWorkXx he rules the house. I must make a tint crown for my king
LOL he's just sitting, plotting his next move underneath your feet.
There really needs to be a period fashion movement, this girl looks amazing!
Using zip ties as corset boning? WHY IN THE FLYING FLUFF DID I NEVER THINK OF THAT?!?! I feel stupid for the money I’ve spent on actual corset boning!
This dress is gorgeous! You look like an elegant forest nymph!
RIGHT!! She just saved me all the money
The character development of Rachel taking the time to sew on all the embroidered flowers rather than glue them on is *chef's kiss*
Im terrified of the fact that your door opened on its own and you didn’t even question it.
The power she has
In old New England houses, that’s not so unusual.
One thing I learned by living in a haunted sorority is that you can’t be too impressed by the ghost. I’d be way too busy to be scared of the door rattling, so I’d just tell the ghost that if they wanted to scare me they’d have to conjure up an apparition.
If ya have pets it's really easy to just sit there and think, "Was it the dog/cat or a ghost? Meh, probably the dog/cat." then go on with your life.
we say NOT TODAY to ghosties
Um, I live in a haunted house, so a door opening by itself is really no biggie! ~Janet in Canada
Darnell and that gorgeous house back into my life.)
Sincerely,
A fairly recent but VERY enthusiastic fan
I was so obsessed with the original Secret Garden. When I was a kid, I would find old keys and carry them around. I would pretend that every garden was my secret garden, and “unlock” them with my magic keys.
Oh my gosh same
And one time I locked myself out of my room because I wanted to open it with a key I found, but my door didn't have a keyhole somehow so, dreams and doors were crushed.
I had the VHS and I absolutely destroyed it rewinding it so many times. LOVE the original - saw the trailer for the remake and was horrified.
Sameee! I loved the atmosphere of that movie
"Rachel on the couch will stay on the couch." *Sips coffee on the couch while looking at projects* I feel called out :D
Hahahahah ain't that JUST the way (also hAALLOO fellow rachel!!)
@@rachelmaksy Hello! Also, I want to say I love your videos and this dress is beautiful! And you're beautiful in it!
Yes, did feel a little attacked 🤣🤣
Awww, you sound just like my mother! Bless her heart.
16:43 I wonder if the inventor's of Zip Ties ever realized how many dresses they would be sewn into 😆
Best sewing hack ever!!
Hahahahaha that is fantastic
"...with Coliiiiiiiiiiiiin."
Hahahaha AWWW
just last week I heard a woman call for her son, Archie, who'd run off, in an almost identical tone to the film and I completely froze. like does she know? does she not know? I can't tell her?? but then I had "I'm in the garden" echoing in my head the rest of the day 😅
@@rachelmaksy 😂❤️
*cries in the beauty of Rachel Masky spring vibes*
Aren't we all brother?

I really appreciate that it said several bad puns laters and immediately cuts to the chest cups. Makes me wonder what the puns were really about... I appreciate this.
I'm generally a passive viewer but I was absolutely delighted to suddenly see a new video pop up on my feed. Rachel Maksy's videos help me decompress after a hard day working with the public.
Solidarity, my friend.
Me too🤩
Hey I hope you see this!
O000 what a clever trick
Awesome! I just searched wood burning tool.....and read a Soldering Iron works at a lower temperature, so I will go search for the old 1 in my shed! Free is good
great tip!
Rachel: “April showers bring May flowers, but what do May flowers bring? PILGRIMS!”

My favourite comments from this video:
“Resting stitch face”
“Pinocchio titties”
“And if only you could see my posture during this process. Oh look, there it is”
Ode to spring needs to be my theme music to life
Did you say, hobbit mating dress?
i think she said hobbit maiden lol
All of these!! 😄
Pinocchio titties! I can’t even !!!
Right! Lol!
@@Paula-tr8eq ohhhhh... Yeah, that makes more sense..
The way you talk about your pets makes me miss my pet, when she is just in the next room napping.
I'm not someone who subscribes to TH-camrs often. Pretty rare. I clicked that button in the first 30 seconds. I love her humor and personality. Definitely one of my favorite sewer youtube so far.
Thank you for highlighting “Look at this Graph,” a vine I still quote daily that no one else remembers.
Hahahahaha it's one the BEST
Beautiful!! Xxx 💗 💗 all the lovely flowers reminded me how obsessed I was with Basis Zarzycka's wedding dresses in the late 90s /early naughties. She had one where the hem was full of real peonies! Glorious 💕💕
RACHEL YOU KILLED THIS THE EDITING IN THE WHOLE VIDEO IS BEAUTIFUL, THE DRESS, BEAUTIFUL, YOU, BEAUTIFUL HOLY SHIT WOMAN
Oh my gosh thank you so much sweetest 😭😭😭😭
*When you work for “THAT fabric store” and see her pull out products you stare at, literally, all day* 😯😬😂
Saaaaaame 😂😂😂
I literally organised those exact same spring floral corsages yesterday lol
This dress honestly is something my younger self would have dreamed of. Gosh I am floored by your sewing skills! Also the see-through fabric with floral embroidery? That's a darn treasure there!
The amount of serotonin this gave me. Literally was sitting down to cry over finals, but then I saw the notification for this video, and my whole day got better. Thank you for being your beautiful chaotic self and bringing a smile to us sad folks.

God the old secret garden spring montage of the flowers blooming with choir music will always play rent free in my brain
This looks like a Hobbit wedding gown, which I feel is exactly the aesthetic we’d all like to live in!
I want to live in that gown too.
I love your videos! Thank you for being so "real". Also.. you seriously need to watch the actual original black and white version of Secret Garden from 1949. I liked it much better than the '93 version.
This screams a mix between cottage core and fairytale. Not to mention this MARVELLOUS reveal shot ! I am so in love right now.
Thank you so so so much
Your humor was EN POINTE in this video. I nearly spit out my coffee twice. Also, Pinocchio Titties is the name of my new thrash metal band.
hehehehe thank you so much!!
The classic My Secret Garden you saw isn't my favorite version of the film. Never the less, I fell in love with the magic garden when I was a kid and never outgrew it. A wonderful film and a fantastic dress!
I’m astounded by the amount of effort that clearly went into this
thank you so much, that means a lot!!! ❤️
@@rachelmaksy Thanks for the entertaining videos! Please check your mirror at the start, it seems to be shaking excessively and I don't want it falling on you or a member of your family.
