Have they told you what made them suspect it was dangerous goods???? They could make this an excuse for opening literally anything!
Like they don't already lol.
They opened it because they are completely incompetent
@@BackyardBullion I'm sending stuff off next week! To that end, maybes I will get the train into our wonderful capital city 🤔🙈👽
And they just might use it for any item they declare to look at
Those are some nice chess pieces. Would love to see the entire set on a board. Make a good background :)
Nice to see you didn't get ripped off.
Fortunately my 5kg silver bar had no trouble finding its way to me via royal mail recently.
My mailman never smiles but he did when he handed my parcel and said "You'll need both hands for this mate" lol
Amazing
Made me laugh 😂
SO glad to hear that your shipment is finally back with you, BYB, and appears to be in good condition. I know you put a great deal of work into your silver pours, so you must be relieved to get these pieces back.
A real pain in the proverbial all the same! 😮
Totally man, was honestly preparing for the worst!
Glad you finally got your stuff back 👍
Thanks man.
Your silver must have set off Royal Mail’s metal detector 😬
It set of their incompetence detector.
Well, at least you were careful opening it! Very glad it’s all finally safe again, but the communications from RM are a mess, I’d be fuming
It's hilariously stupid
Well in that time period, you could have planned the following - up, down, left right, retiring to a sunny beach in Barbados, then one day later, living in a work house being fed gruel! Its mad times 😂😂😂
For sure man, totally stupid situation
Glad to see that you got your silver back undamaged thx for sharing 🙏
The thing I really don't understand is: if it was going from Edinburgh to mainland England and they suspected it wasn't safe to fly, why didn't they just deliver it by overland mail without all this palava?
I recall losing a bar of silver via royal mail, however, the sender via eBay sent it in an basic paper envelope.
I also had another package opened which was two bits of carp fishing equipment.
Hey, old friend. This shipment has turned to the shipment from hell. Bribe $ too. That is a total iritant in my world. They Royaly screwed up eh.
They sure did my man. Terrible
@@BackyardBullion I am actually impressed with the US Mail. Prompt, on time and far less expensive that Canada Post. I can send an order, (sometimes really heavy) to Dallas Texas for less than what it costs to send the same weight just a couple provinces to Wimmipeg Manitoba. What's with that ? Their tracking stateside can't be beat. I can track a package finding out every turn and corner it passes. I have had parcels opened but they are well wraped up and both myself and the recieving person notified. Nice system.
Crazy stuff 👍🧲⚓️
Madness
Glad you got your package returned!
Exact same thing happened to me except with DHL. It was a poster in a tube from within the UK and even said on the tube yet they still opened it. You'll be lucky to get any explanation im still waiting on one 3 weeks later.
Yeah, good luck with that !
Silver nitrate is a viable substance used in the synthesis of explosives. If their X-ray/detection equipment picked up on this, then, yeah, your package is suspicious - particularly if you used such compounds to produce silver.
Glad you got all the silver back BYB , I just hope they have not used the dangerous goods delay to fit trackers in them . 👍
You know there are tracking chips in type 2 eagles right!
@@BackyardBullion Yes I was very worried about them ,but 365 said he could take the coins from me at £5 each so I sold him my monster box. He such a great chap for helping me out .Now I am tracker free .😄👍
things could easily go missing in this scenario...
Totally!
very glad you retrieved your goods
Glad you got it back 🎉
That sucks. At least you got it back safe, 'though. I cross my fingers and hope for the best every time I ship silver. I've had two packages opened by Canada Post in the past. Both times they "resealed" them by shoving everything back in loosely, and putting a single thin piece of tape over the spot where they'd cut it. Luckily nothing went missing either time. They did, however, assess taxes despite bullion being tax exempt in Canada, and refuse to release my packages until I paid it. I was then forced to file a request for a refund and wait about three and a half months to be reimbursed each time.
Totally stupid
Without having specifics I could guess with almost complete certainty that the nimrod who decided to open your package for inspection was certain he had intercepted a dangerous package containing lithium batteries not able to fly. I don’t believe there was ever any intention to abscond your silver. I am a USPS city carrier in Florida and have a little experience with post peoples thought process. I am a stacker and see the similarities in packaging/weight etc. and understand how the mistake could be easily made.
even if not damaged i'd still claim for having to send it AGAIN up to the assay office...
You are so, so lucky to be able to receive these Silver items intact, and even made a video in TH-cam to publish your complaint, if you are in PRChina, they would likely be all confiscated or lost in transit ??. Hails !! ..to the Royal Mail of U.K. to deliver the items .. as promised.
I had this happen to me once but I was sending prohibited items. it was 3 tins of Cuprinol fence treatment I sold on Ebay as I no longer required it, I thought I would just chance it and everything was all well packaged and secure but they still opened it but my letter said they destroyed the contents.
Oof, that sucks.
Ofcourse it's dangerous. A Royal Mail employee could drop the package on their foot making you responsible...
They really are crap. I’m currently waiting for 6X 1oz silver Britannias from Chards. Chards processed and posted my order really quickly (as usual)….Royal Mail promised delivery before 1pm Monday… still waiting…..🙄
Good you got your silver back. But as I've said before RM is a government department and therefore not fit for purpose and in many cases incompetent.
I totally agree.
Where did you get the silver chess pieces? I would like to purchase some. Thanks
I make them myself! We do whole sets! If you want to order some just email me on byb@backyardbullion.com
The 4th from bottom left looks like it has a hole in the front? did they drill it? or just a pour feature?
As an aside, ive had 2 silver packages (sent from abroad) impounded for weeks and as far as i could tell the packages weren't opened. So I don't understand why RM opened your package.
It's crazy. They are just incompetent
they will take it if they can
I can't help but think by me making a fuss this was stopped from being stolen
Yes, Royal Mail are rubbish at their jobs. Am pretty sure the posties in the sorting offices like to play juggle with parcels. I recently sent a blu-ray steelbook through RM and it arrived damaged according to the buyer. Since then I have added extra packaging to jiffy bags and boxes to prevent as much as possible any damage. Buyer wasn't happy, I offered them the chance to return it for a full refund but they decided to keep it.
Makes me wonder how many dangerous/ potentially explosive parcels are lost or sitting in a general storeroom somewhere, I’ll say it again
Shame on them!!
It's dangerous to werewolves
Sure is!
Not heard you so peeved for quite a while!
So your biggest complaint is a technicality in the grammar used in their label and letter, not making it super crystal clear that the package was inspected due to *suspicion* of dangerous goods. Of course you know what's inside, but a worker at the royal mail being handled a closed box for the first time doesn't know with absolute certainty what is inside.
They shouldn't have needed to open it in the first place! Nothing was dangerous about it. Think how much metal and silver gets sent in the post every day. Don't defend them. Their grammatical mistakes are just a sign they have no clue
@@BackyardBullion From your perspective knowing what is inside of course you know it's not dangerous contents, but from the perspective of workers at the royal mail it is an unknown what is inside. If you want to question the methodology they use to identify a package as suspicious, please do so, no problem with criticizing that. It is not fair for you say "it's silver, it's not dangerous, therefore they were incompetent to inspect the package." The royal mail worker could not know for 100% certainty it is silver bullion inside until the package is opened and checked.
The flow of events was (1) royal mail doesn't know the contents of the box, (2) royal mail flags this as a suspicious package for reasons (3) royal mail opens package (4) royal mail positively identifies the contents as silver bullion & determines it is not dangerous, (5) royal mail delivers package and full contents to you.
I'm not seeing the incompetence.
The incompetence comes from them having misidentified it to begin with. They have no excuse for this
Next time using a big black marker write: Does not contain bombs or other dangerous goods. 😁
Grammar is the least of their problems, but I don't like their use of the term "potentially dangerous". Potential is inherent in the concept of danger, and they want to exclude items which are explicitly dangerous, not potentially so. The _potential_ for danger not being the issue is evident by their not referring to it in the statement "the items contained within do not breach dangerous goods transport regulations". There are no "potentially dangerous goods transport regulations".
Your item was not potentially dangerous, your item potentially was dangerous.
Appalling. Have you considered Fedex? Lots of U.K. based depots.
This is unacceptable from the Royal Mail on what we call in the business a "domestic" shipment.
Domestic is a shipment that moves from A to B without crossing an international border.
Therefore, there is no paperwork (manifests) required.
I work for one of the major carriers in the business, and have done so for over 25 years, and there is no way that we (UPS) would do what the Royal Mail have done here.
I've also heard of this happening with Royal Mail, and it is becoming a little too often for it to be the reasons they give, and becoming more apparent that their reasons are little more than excuses to quite literally "look" at what customers are shipping.
It's disgraceful, a breach of contract I would say, as whatever is shipped is "private and confidential" and of no business to anyone.
I'm not surprised that you are upset by their deliberate intervention.
I better add that my opinion is strictly my own, and not an opinion of the company I work for.
But I can say we would in no way do this, unless there were serious concerns or suspicious circumstances.
It simply isn't suspicious.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I cannot prove it but I think my parcel was "stolen" or lost for good until all the efforts I did to complain. They conveniently found it after I spread word to every bullion dealer in the UK that the goods were hot.
Boys and girls.
I know this is in no relation to the title of this video but I have to say it ....
Please check out Mr Backyard bullion's poured silver.
He has just poured me a heart for myself and my partners marking of 3 years together and to say it looks absolutely amazing does not do it justice!
A video of backyard bullion pouring the heart has been loaded to his TH-cam and it is awesome to watch the process of this heart being made.
(Disclosure, BYB has absolutely no idea about this comment and review & I hope he does not mind.
Thankyou once again buddy! A*** job!!!
You are a legend, thanks for the amazing comment.
You are more than welcome!! I'd post a link to the video but for some reason it's not allowing me!!! 🤷
Me and technology do not get along as you know 😂
Very happy & will be a returning customer for sure!

Thank you! Cheers!
I wish people would stop whining about the Royal Mail, it really does p*ss me off. If you don't like using them use Evri, Yodel, DPD or UPS , but stop using your channel to slag of RM.
How about no. They offer a service, they mess up why shouldn't I say something.
