While I was diamond painting and my canvases were getting bigger and bigger, I learnt that a better pen than those little pink ones is a must and that I only need a cutter and cut the desired size of the protective film. I don't make the rest of the canvas dry like that. Thus I keep the biggest film parts that I cut bc we never know when they are needed. I also use those laundry sheets to prevent static electricity.

Oh and when you cut the film be careful not to press too hard (you don't want to cut the canvas) and start with the right border bc you are right handed
