The common people of every country show kindness, respect and hospitality to one another. It is the leaders and the rich who foster conflict for nefarious purposes of their own.

I am Brazilian but I love studying foreign cultures in general. Armenian music like this makes me feel the cold breeze in the mountains, the smell of wood burning in the kitchen stove and the bleat of the sheep in the Armenian Highlands. I have goosebumps and watering eyes when I listen to it. Beautiful country, and beautiful people with an ancient and rich culture.

Genocide perpetrated by the Turks against the Armenian population is quite well known to us in Poland but I still cannot recover from sadnes after reading that book. Armenians have been living in Poland for hundreds of years and they are devoted and faithful citizens who gave their second homeland tremendous merits. Always loyal and faithful. I am English born and still live there, to me this music, the tranquillity and serenity is something that can never be found in Western music, I have always loved the sound of "Middle Eastern" music, voices the people, the gracefulness found there. Wherever you are in life people, be happy, be positive, and LOVE unconditionally, this World has become so unsettled and horrible, we must all strive to hold to our gifts from Nature and love each other. This music is reminiscent of a country that was at the crossroads of every major stepping stone in World History.
    Noah and Mount Ararat
    Human migration
    Persian Empire
    Silk Road
    Roman Empire
    Christianity
    Mongols
    Medieval Renaissance
    World Wars
    Soviet Rule
Just to name a few. The music is both mature, reflective and saddened by years of so much experience as are the people who have created it. Relaxing, maybe, but it is much more emotional than that. Despite these strong emotions, I can say I have never met a more welcoming and happy community in my life.

Back in the 90s I used to listen to Djivan Gasparyan. It was my introduction to Armenian music. Then, as now, what I love is the dance between the one, constant, solid note, and the lighter melody accompanying it. I imagine the notes as two dancers dancing around each other. At the time I lived in East Hollywood, CA, and there was a large Armenian immigrant population there. Then most of them moved to the nearby city of Glendale where another "little Armenia" formed. For some reason, I always had a special interest in their culture and history. Perhaps in a past life time I had some kind of connection to Armenia . . .

Lovely music. Iranians have a long common history with Armenians. They share lots of things in culture and language with each other.
I wish justice come to the world and Armenians and the people of Azerbaijan, Christians and Muslims, all come to a better and deeper peace.

I have heard scores of musical compositions, ranging from Catholic Hyms, Chants of the mystics, Buddhic Tisraanas, Hindu Mantraas, Tibet Hymns, Chinese Traditional, Muslim Naats and Nasheeds, countless Hollywood OST scores, you name any it has come across my ears in the 20 years of musical experience, I have never encountered the purity of Arminian Duduk and its effect on mind. If we meditate upon this music, it takes us straight into nothingness of desert where one is one with the ONE>

Music transcends all political borders and touches the hearts of men, women and children in the commonality of who we are as humans. Before there were governments and religions who used the tools of propaganda to segregate us against one another for their own gain of money and power, we had the joy and beauty of diversity of culture, we were tied to the earth, we were raised on the values of respect, courage, wisdom and generosity. Let us find our joy and sorrow in our shared humanity and cast off the chains of those that seek to bind us.

Most of this music will have been created in Ancient times, when the Kingdom of Armenia was a powerful force in the world of antiquity, yet seems to be with a sense of sorrowful foreboding.
As though they knew their civilisation would be left far behind one day.
The music of the Duduk stands strong as though clawing it's way through the countless centuries, to tell the people of the future that the Kingdom of Armenia was once great and that one day, all civilisation will someday fall just as they did.
What matters is what we can leave behind.
