Good information on mango pollinators. In the Philippines we had bees to pollinate the mangoe trees in our backyard while here in florida my mangoes are pollinated by flies. Good information to know about different variety of mangoes had different pollinators. We took a trip to Miami for the international orchid show and on the way back home to Tampa we stop at Davies and bought 8 or nine different variety of mangoes. Can't wait for them to bloom and see what kind of pollinators will pollinate them.
My Dwarf Hawaiin has been frequented by numerous bees, wasps, and even flies. Nothing yet has been observed on the Glenn, Sugarloaf, or Julie flowers...
I just took another look, and there are flies all over the Glenn right now. The Dwarf Hawaiin seems to have been deserted. The flowers are drying up. None of the others are quite "ripe" yet.
A very interesting piece. This is the first year that I've paid attention to pollinators on my Bailey's Marvel. It seemed like the bees were first, of course they are strong enough to open the sepals, followed by blow flies, house flies and some love bugs. Waiting on my Valencia Pride to start blooming.
I have a few types of mango trees with a whole gang of different pollinators I noticed ants love going up my kent mango tree and I have a few native bees I see moths at night alot and a bunch a different types of flies but I don't know the names and I had a chicken die a month before flower I barried it in a pot to break down and compost and you can just slightly smell it if you walk close and it's right by my kent Glen Carrie count cream mango trees. Nice video thanks for the advice I thought I had a ant problem but I guess there helping 😂
This was very informative. I have noticed that flies appear to be the main pollinators for my mangoes. I have avocados that are beginning to bloom as well. Interesting enough, I built a fly trap a few months ago not knowing that I was destroying the main pollinators for my orchard.
My Florigon tree is blooming profusely now. I've noticed bees, wasps, flies, and moths pollinating the tree. I noticed the bees were most abundant in the morning and moths only at night. Flies of various types are the most common pollinator.
Just checked on my 4 yr old Kent and we have bees wasps and flies. Last year was its first crop only gave 15 mangos. They were large and delicious. This year we are hoping for 30+

Hi there. My family has a farm in Brazil and we used to induce pollination with wind, it worked well, but we noticed that the rate of no seed fruit increased. Do you know if there is any relation between this procedure and the production of no seed mangos? This is happening with Palmer and Tommy varieties.
Do you know what that shiny emerald bug is? I saw it today on my mango tree and I have never seen it before. It looks similar to the blue bottle fly, but this bug had emerald eyes and an emerald green body
I had the same blow flies on my Ice Cream Mango tree. Also had small(Half the size of a honeybee), long slender wasps on Ice Cream Mango. In Odessa, FL Hillsborough County.
Without knowing I keep a planting pot with dog dropping close to the mango tree. This is the first flowering, 2 years after grafting. We’ll see how it works out.
Flies are accidental pollinators as well as other bugs lol!! So wild! Throw rotting fruit and peels and scrap veggies at base of trees and bugs will come! Or soak sugar cane in water under the tree lol or fish or if you're into that lllol
Scientist are often wrong despite their fancy methods and equipment. 🤷 Edit: and typically they qualify their findings. E.g. "we have not found/observed be pollination our trees". 😉
Awesome video, thank you. It has inspired me to catalog the polinators on my mangos.

Fascinating topic, have the individual pollens/ nectar been profiled to know their actual make up? Those trees are a fabulous sight!

My mango farm is in India , i would like to know what growth regulators and micronutrients used at the time of flowering to increase pollination?

In Malaya common flies are great pollinators . We attract flies using waste chicken carcass n skins hanging on mango trees

I had the same blow flies on my Ice Cream Mango tree. Also had small(Half the size of a honeybee), long slender wasps on Ice Cream Mango. In Odessa, FL Hillsborough County.
Rosiegold primarily bees, Neelum primarily flies
I mainly get a mixture of both on my mango trees but bees seem to be more attracted to my cc and unknown seed planted mango tree.
Man do you think practicing beekeeping alongside the farm would enhance mango pollination
Rarely see bees here on my 8 varieties but did see some on 'Harvest Moon' about a month ago.
I have bees on my Glenn mango and also some small flies

Falan, Pirie and Rapoza pollinated by small flies in Hawaii
How about defecate near mango trees to attract more flies..,😆
It seems like mangos with Indian names are like by flies and others, with English or Southeast Asian names are likes by bees.
flies were all over the flowers on my Kensington Pride....God damn Queensland Fruit Fly decimated the fruit this year... :(
