L’effetto di salire su un’ammiraglia proveniente letteralmente da un’altra era è quello di ritrovarsi ad assaporare atmosfere diverse, un feel che forse oggi potrebbe assumere il profumo di dimenticato.
Un po’ come se, tracciando un parallelo automobilistico, si salisse sul gattone, modello di punta della Mercedes degli anni Sessanta, e si cercasse il touch screen. Non lo si troverebbe di certo e si virerebbe verso altro da apprezzare. Ed in effetti, qui, da apprezzare ce n’è!
Scesi dalla lussuosa berlina sulle note del primo assaggio dei toni pianistici di Enzo, alcuni pregi della Fantom X8 emergono chiari.
La qualità audio è mediamente alta, pur considerando l’età che sconta “l’astronave” si è difronte ad una pasta sonora ad oggi ancora valida, sebbene dimostri i suoi anni a livello di campionamento.
A parere di chi scrive, però, si dovrebbe porre l’accento non tanto sulla perfezione di quello che la Fantom produce, bensì indagare la qualità delle atmosfere ricreabili. In tal senso, un passaggio eseguito attorno al primo quarto del video mi ha riportato ad un film che tanto m’è caro (è appena il caso di dire…), Caro diario, del Moretti, nella scena in cui a cavallo della Vespa ripercorre i luoghi di - ultima - pasoliniana memoria.
Il motivo guida (Keith Jarrett, se ve lo stavate chiedendo), la vespa conduce, la X8 riconduce.
Se la sezione organi avrebbe fatto probabilmente alzare il dubbioso sopracciglio al mai troppo compianto John Lord, la workstation si fa apprezzare i suoni variegati a disposizione, dai più elaborati a quelli di piano, passando per i bassi synth, tutti accomunati di media da un attacco definito e deciso, qualitativamente godibili, e via ancora di archi. Questi, si, meno incisivi, più morbidi ed accoglienti.
Così, appurata la possibilità di spaziare tra suoni secchi e più avvolgenti, quasi affabulatori, il cenno di Enzo al caro Miles Davis non pare fuori tema, anzi.
E se non tutti i synth strabiliano, pare certo che alcuni lo hanno divertito tanto quanto il vezzo di prima musica elettronica di settantiana memoria ha ammiccato all’orecchio di chi stende queste due righe, sebbene i tempi cambino ed i campionamenti, i filtri si raffinino, la Fantom X8 non perde verve, ne acquista.

I’ve got 3 x Fantom X8’s, would never sell one! Superb Keybed and still great internal sounds along with the SRX boards, still works well alongside my Korg Kronos 2 88 and Yamaha Montage 8 ☺️

Even after 20 years still good sounding synth. Anyway with original soft you can easily import Roland S700 series sample CDs into it (patch+multisamples). Then Fantom with something like "OMI Sound Images" is totally different beast.
