    Hip hip hooray"! Thank you so much for all you do and all the responsible breeders out there and levers of this breed this is the original dog in my opinion I've only pit bulls Rottweilers German shepherds Doberman Pinschers and now I'm an oldie bulldog fan forever and I want to thank mr. Leavitt for having the sense of bringing this breed back true and sound we all owe a lot to him if not we would have a bunch of Mongoloid pitbulls which I have nothing against pitbulls but I like to have a dog that I can depend on and control and know that it's not going to go out and kill the neighbors dog for no damn good reasonand that my bulldog is going to be healthy and be able to have its own babies and care for them like good Mama should and then at least I could take it for a walk down the street or have it chase a ball without having to worry about it breaking a hip or falling over because it can't breathe or just not get up and run it all I think you so much for all you do and for promoting this breed and keeping it solid and crew thank you very much little Jack SoCal OPB

    Should always let the dog keep its tail and not dock it because it an extension of the spine so imo leave it natural

    Not to step on anyone's toes or to disrespect this breed, but there are folks out there that find trying to recreate the bull baiting bulldog to be unnecessary. This is because it is said that the bull baiting and working bulldog is still alive in well with the qualities and function of doing what they were designed to do all those years ago. We call those dogs American pit bulls today. In fact, one of the dogs that were used to birth the olde English bulldogge was the American pit bull. If folks would like to know more on this topic, two well known figures on the topic of bulldogs and the American pit bulldog are Mr. Richard F. Stratton and Ms. Diane Jessup. Don't get me wrong, the olde English bulldogge is a fine breed that I believe should take the place of what is referred to now as English bulldogs, but the game and working bulldog is alive and well still working as catch dogs and warring dogs that stay true to the bulldog of old.

      the swamp hunting American Bulldog point implied, a good read is ''The Working American Bulldog'' by Dave Putnam, the ONLY goddamn ''PIT BULL'' is the rare TRUE APBT, an abbreviation used by the old timers for over a century

      Swell Character Except that the only true bulldog died a long time ago and can never be recreated no matter how much people try. Just cos the pit bull is a fighter it doesn’t mean he is the true bulldog. The clue is in the name APBTerrier.. That’s not to say that all the various breeds are useless, I love all bull breeds, it’s just a shame that the grandad of all these dogs is no longer around.

    I have made comment on other channels about these & other "bulldog" recreations & do not intend to go into lengthy detail about them. I am simply going to say that it is impossible to "breed" the "gameness" that was a quintessential part of the ancient "bulldog" . The only dogs that retain this type of "gameness" are in fact A. P.
    B.T.s , English Staffordshire Bull Terriers & to a lesser degree The American Staffordshire Terrier. The 3rd mentioned was nothing more than an A.P.B.T. that had a name change in 1934 in attempt by some breeders to soften the "fighting" image of the "American Pit Bull Terrier and to have it listed as a "pure bred" dog allowed to compete on the "show dog" circuit. The breeding to a "conformational" standard has led to a marked reduction of "gameness" until the Amstaff can now only be considered a "cousin" of the dogs it originated from. This also applies to a lesser degree to the English Staffordshire. It is in my view misleading for people to be calling these Leavitt inspired "bulldog" recreations Victorian Bulldogs. If any dog deserves that title it is that horrible 1850s mixed breed attempt to recreate the genuine "ancient bulldog type". This is of course the dog inflicted with 25, that's right, 25 of the most undesirable traits and inherent defects and chronic conditions of the canine world, The English (Show type) Bulldog. Don't believe me? Then do some research like I have over the last 35 years. Finally to those who have the Leavitt inspired "bulldog" type do not be afraid to refine and improve what is most probably, in form, health & looks the closest & best recreation type " bulldog". By refine I mean details such as the "rats tail", slightly longer snout, non "rosette" but "half drop" ears with the fold above the eyeline and under no circumstances allow the shoulder (front) to hip ( ratio to head down the exaggerated "taper" of the "English Bulldog".

      Gameness can only be proven through testing in ANY breed.

    • @the66hobgoblin.45
      @the66hobgoblin.45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Todd Lehman. Yes and the method of testing for the "Bull & Terrier" dogs was in the pit. By "Bull & Terrier" I refer to the historical 87•5% Bulldog to 12•5% Terrier mix. Not Bullmastiff & not English Bull Terriers. After my last pitty died at 17 yrs of age 2 yrs ago the lack of good quality dogs & the stupid dog laws that were brought in during his lifetime, I took the next best option & got myself a beautiful 120lb Boerboell bitch. Brilliant guardian who will attack but absolutely loves nice people especially women & kids.🐕😀.r

      Phillip McKenzie Don’t forget to throw some working greyhound in to the mix to get that beautiful “wheel back”. Both the bulldog of old and the greyhound benefitted from being crossed with each other..

    • @the66hobgoblin.45
      @the66hobgoblin.45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Fitzgerald. Do you mean "roach back"? Pitbull Terriers that exhibit that trait such as Colby's Twister, of the 1920s , a 54lb dog, are believed to have derived it from the type of Terrier used in the crossbreeding to the ( ancient extinct type) of Bulldog. This "roach back" is can be seen in the Bedlington Terrier and was believed to have been pcommon amongst the also extinct, White English Terrier.( Which is the Terrier component of the English Bull Terrier. ( By the way a
      pure Gull Terrier of India actually displays the true, original form of the Bull
      Terrier.) Another snippet for you Paul, the little "Lambie" lookalike Bedlington is a surprisingly ferocious fighter and dogs of similar size would be well advised not to pick a blue with one. They will fight to the death if necessary. This is the source of the"roach back" but who knows if perhaps ancient boar hounds, which certainly contained the blood of greyhound like "coursing hounds", may well have been infused into the predecessors of these terriers.🐶🐕🐩🐺🐒.

      indeed, a novice wouldn't know this is a RECREATION of the Old English, also the boar swamp hunting American Bulldog point implied , they go back to Corvino & large Colby bulldogs, big boys went to the farms, the show gave them that name in the late 70's, they've been here for many generations, such as the APBT, William J. Lighter stated his grand dad had game pit bulldogs before the civil war

      @D D the American pitbull Terrier is 100s of yrs old, a breed that was used in the creation of the Olde. Which was cheated in the 70s, but I'm wrong lol
