"I wrote Chasing Ghosts as a narrative based wholly around someone that has committed suicide and has passed onto the other side. It's a story that I hope people will see for what it is; an example in song of why you should turn to someone close and talk instead of taking that last fatal step towards death prematurely. I just want to reiterate to people that once you're gone, that's it. There's no ghosts. There's no heaven, no hell, just finality and the wreckage left behind in the wake of their decision." - Joel Birch

It can, but that's not what this particular band has focused on. The singer suffers with depression and they know people who also suffer with it. "Normal" people can have depression too, by the way, and "normal" people can enjoy the music without being depressed.
The first song I heard by The Amity Affliction which helped me from what I was going through because of the chorus in the song which I feel like the band is asking me about my depression: Are you at all haunted by memories past? Are you ready to make this one breath your last? Is your chest so heavy you're ready to leave? Or are you just hoping that someone will grieve?, I chose the right decision of moving on with my life, so I'm happy that my depression is gone.

There is something nostalgic in those 2012 times when i was young and depressed, wanted to die, often cut my arms and face to blood.. and found this band. this is by far the best music video ever. the strobyness with different cuts is perfect. could not have made a better music vid for this song. I love the part where they zoom up on her eyes as asian guitar guy sings "are you haunted by memories past" and the shot where they have the camera sorta looking like its flying as its recording. siiick.
Ive always thought the screaming for bands like this was to just let everything out, the anger, frustration, sadness, just everything they have built up. Just letting it all out. And showing their emotions. Thats how i always thought of it.
Nickexp Well all songs have a message so that can't be the only reason you like it. People don't hear it in music like this if they don't already like it because all they focus is the screaming and that's perfectly fine. Same reason you probably don't hear the messages in music you personally don't like because how can you hear it if you're too busy thinking about how much you don't like it?
bourky93 I can understand why pop songs are liked, they are catchy, I just prefer screamo as it tends to have message and not be giving money to rich assholes, but you do make a fair point.
bourky93 all songs may have a message but honnestly, I'm in love with the coco, that song doesn't mean shit xD. mostly rap songs talk about twerking and showing off them butts, that'S why I hate rap. all other style is ok tho. plus it'S not only screaming. if you check out the lyrics, and listen to all these harmonies, when do you hear harmonies like that in rap music or pop? sometimes yes, but not as much as in this kind of music. but yeah, my sister didn't liked this cause it had screams in it, I showed her the lyrics and tyhe harmonies and she liked it, she only listen to metal now.
Aaaaah man the feelings on this one. I remember being twelve and being so angry and sad at the same time everyday. You guys really helped me a lot. Almost 10 years listening to your music. Please, never stop
this was the very first amity song that I've ever heard (around same year of release), scrolling through channels and there was this, I instantly fell in love. TAA is also what got me to listen to this genre, so coming back to this video feels kinda surreal. I haven't had the opportunity of seeing them live, but one day! one day, I'll get to see them and it'll be one of the best days of my life.
Does anyone else keep coming back to this song, and listening to it on repeat or is it just me? If so how’s everyone doing? Here to talk, sincerely someone with reoccurring depression. 🖤
was 15 when this came out now im 23. Remember listening to this album constantly and it being sort of a soundtrack to my depression and everything i was feeling at the time and listening to this now takes me straight back to those moments. Funny how music can serve as a memory
normally i listen to one direction and 5sos and that stuff (don't judge) but this genre really does something to me, it has way more emotion than the other music i listen to, i can really feel all the emotions coming up again from when i had a depression, this scream music really does something to me, and i know this isn't so much screaming and stuff like suicide silence, but i really like this tipe of music :)
It makes me lol, but how do people notice? Might've been an Easter Egg, maybe not, but, either way, it's well in the background, how could you notice without watching out for it?
They censored out wrist because it referred to self harm (steel against the wrist meant cutting). But yeah, still pretty stupid; it's like when VEVO censored hit in I Hate Everything About You.
The reason they censored it is so they cant be blamed or sewed for "promoting" people causing self harm as well as the other things they censored (i know its fucking stupid but its politics and people are fucking stupid get use too it). Its mostly too protect themselves but also too relay their point through music without completely removing it. Hope this clears up any confusion :P
There old stuff will always hold a special place in my heart i do really like the new album but theres something about chasing ghosts and youngbloods that is perfect

We are all in the ‘’game’’ of mental struggles together and i promise you it’’ll get Better eventually• for now, all i can say is: keep Your head up in the rough times and headbang to amity if it Gets Better. Much love, Someone who feels Your pain and torment Every day and know how much mental issues takes from a human being. Nokke signing out, but always there for you.
because for some people clean vocals are so "gay" and it's too mainstream and it's not metal and heavy and every other shit excuses of small minded true metalheads.

I turn 18 in 2 months and I want to say that I probably wouldn’t have held on this long if it weren’t for the message of this song. I found this song when I was 12 at the prime of my emo phase and well when I first met depression. My depression has been an off and on type of thing, I’ve almost attempted suicide but then I’d listen to this song. I didn’t want to die, I just wanted a different life without all the pain. I’m still struggling now especially since 2 weeks ago I got out of this toxic relationship and it damaged me a lot. He was very manipulative and I lost parts of myself trying to please him. I felt insecure about some stuff he said but then he’d get upset with me for expressing my thoughts. I’m finding myself again and healing at my own pace. Seriously though I was supposed to die in my mind before I turned 18 because I didn’t think I’d make it to my 18th birthday. It’s still August right now, but I hope I don’t die before October.🖤
I turned 45 today...and this band has been amongst my faves for years. Best band to listen to on one's birthday while celebrating
Stay there, man. Everything will be ok.
Happy Birthday!❤❤❤❤

Aaaaah man the feelings on this one. I remember being twelve and being so angry and sad at the same time everyday. You guys really helped me a lot. Almost 10 years listening to your music. Please, never stop
The clean vocalist reminds me of Thomas delonge of blink 182
Agreed. It is a great sound though.
I always thought he sounded more like Mark from Blink.
I wandered why his face was so familiar XD
that's what I was just thinking!!!!
ik!
2:57-3:36 breakdown is so fucking epic, oh my God
this was the very first amity song that I've ever heard (around same year of release), scrolling through channels and there was this, I instantly fell in love.
Taa have the most beautful Music Videos ever :o
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed
So this is Amity Affliction, these guys are going to warped
970 people are not haunted from their memories past.
Michael Cruz that supposed to be a bad thing?
Guess it depends how ya look at it ;)
was 15 when this came out now im 23. Remember listening to this album
constantly and it being sort of a soundtrack to my depression and
everything i was feeling at the time and listening to this now takes me
straight back to those moments. Funny how music can serve as a memory
normally i listen to one direction and 5sos and that stuff (don't judge) but this genre really does something to me, it has way more emotion than the other music i listen to, i can really feel all the emotions coming up again from when i had a depression, this scream music really does something to me, and i know this isn't so much screaming and stuff like suicide silence, but i really like this tipe of music :)
panic! at my chemical pilots if you listen to stuff like The Amity Affliction, then get used to it my friend
omg I remember when I wrote this lmao xD happy I got out of my one direction phase
panic! at my chemical pilots props for you! Glad to hear you ditched that stage 😂😂
i can never get tired of this band, just great
I can't stress enough how much I love this band and the message they have. They deserve so much recognition.
Ryan's hood keeps going up and down
It makes me lol, but how do people notice? Might've been an Easter Egg, maybe not, but, either way, it's well in the background, how could you notice without watching out for it?
@@djspuddzz8116 Played through the song like 3-4 times. Man's got hot lol.
They censored out wrist because it referred to self harm (steel against the wrist meant cutting). But yeah, still pretty stupid; it's like when VEVO censored hit in I Hate Everything About You.
OMG STOP TRIGGERING ME!
Fucking suicide is so stupid
Seelroy Jenkins please seelroy tell me ur joking
The reason they censored it is so they cant be blamed or sewed for "promoting" people causing self harm as well as the other things they censored (i know its fucking stupid but its politics and people are fucking stupid get use too it). Its mostly too protect themselves but also too relay their point through music without completely removing it. Hope this clears up any confusion :P
Tara Louise I hate that they censored it out.
There old stuff will always hold a special place in my heart i do really like the new album but theres something about chasing ghosts and youngbloods that is perfect
Every teenager should listen to this album
Suicide doesnt stop the pain it just passes it on to someone else
Ryan's my favourite by far. I love his breakdowns and the way he uses his kit. He's the reason why I play TAA songs so much
Breakdown sounds pretty similar to an older escape the fate song actually
*sings along*
Put the steel to my................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ PUTS THE STEEL TO FUCKING WHAT?????? TELL ME ROAD RUNNER WHAT AM I PUTTING MY STEEL TOO?!?!!
Dicks...
Wrists...gotta censor it so they don't trigger the emo kids.
+Nathan Scrafton This was way funnier than it should be :^)
+_thatguy33_ Im emo and i don't cut...
The True Prize It was a joke.
+Nathan Scrafton one of the roadrunner records subchannels released the song without the censoring afaik
So Beautiful
I'm literally crying from listening to this
Amity, the definition of a perfect band
I
fuck censorship!!!!
yeah
Yes 🖕🏻
Its fucking annoying why do i need my music to suck so that a bunch of parents can feel comfortable with their kids listening to it
I fucking second that!
language!!
First song I listened from TAA. what a masterpiece
Me: *Vibing*
My wife singing the chorus: "Are you ready to make this boyfriend your last"
Me: 😒
Eheheh 🤘🏼♥️
i dont recall this song being censored, and wtf why censor wrist hahahahaha
It advocates self harm
TRIGGERED
lol
Impactify i was having a joke
it triggers people
yeah but the song about dont lean on me is about us fans and then saving our lives cuxz of all the d=feedback on their songs saying they saved their lives
I’ve been searching for this song for the past 10 years, recently became a huge fan of this band especially the song all I do is sink, but 10 years ago this was my favorite song I just found it by accident looking at taa old songs.
I remember when this video has like 150,000 views! now they're massive! Good on them :)
It's amazing how quick it gets around!
2019 and still with a broken heart? 😔🖤
2020.
It's gonna get better soon my dude. You always got a friend in this comment section.
I dont possible ever get close to Whats you’re going through and I’m probably late with this comment too,but don’t Ever let Your joy get taken always from you my friend. We are all in the ‘’game’’ of mental struggles together and i promise you it’’ll get Better eventually• for now, all i can say is: keep Your head up in the rough times and headbang to amity if it Gets Better.

Nokke signing out, but always there for you.
@@Noah-xk1qn damn man thanks so much, u wanna chat in discord? Or IG, hope you're doing well homie
It's been almost a decade since I came across this song, and I've loved this band ever since!
Siguen pasando los años y ellos aún siguen conservando esos excelentes temas
Everyone hates the clean vocalist now a days like Tyler Carter or that one guy from OM&M but tbh I think its better with clean vocals
Yesssss Ahren Stringer is Amazing Especially :D
Without out Ahren the band would have never been created, people should appreciate him more.
I agree with you, i like clean vocals on metal. Most dumbasses hate it because of the way it sounds. I listen to it because of the lyrics.
because for some people clean vocals are so "gay" and it's too mainstream and it's not metal and heavy and every other shit excuses of small minded true metalheads.
'that one guy from OMAM' lmao his name is Aaron Pauley.
But honestly clean vocalists are just as important as the beloved screamers.
This song is beautiful, it's a masterpiece on both the message it delivers and the quality of the music... Amity Family for ever !
The drumming in this song is underrated
there's always that one who decides to not fit in and wear converse
But both Ahren and Joel are wearing converse.
vans are better tho
Bring Me That Horizon ll
you meant Troy wearing Vans and not Converses?
have you seen the glory days album cover
i absolutely love the message behind all of this bands songs they are so underrated
Joel has the dressing style I dream of my soulmate having.
MCRocks27 woe
light layers
this song literally means so much to me and i of amity so much I'm cryin
1:14 bro most people cant even pull that off with a guitar but Ahren. Does it with a damn bass. HOW
That drummer is sick!!
Ryan burt
21:9 music videos > other ones
thank you youtube for making it support it natively too.
love the song.
still more hype about the video being in 2560x1080 though.
LOVE this band. These guys are awesome
It bothers me that the guy on the left was just taking big steps forward and backwards the entire video.
lol
What should he have done instead? Taken steps backwards and forwards? That would have been pretty stupid.
+baconfromhell666 yes
It's modern metal, most guitarists do that live and and I think that's what TAA wanted to do
He's just tryna hatch a pokemon egg let em go m8
Ghost girl Hopefully you’re still around, stay strong GG
This reminds me of 2014(ik it came out 2012). I'm not really into this type of music anymore, but I do have to say this album stuck with me.
That location is just beautiful *o*
Still the best
Dootle auyyv
omg his voice . omg . gives me chills..
This song has got me started to like them. :)
me hace recordar viejos tiempos :')
the break down at 1.15 gives me goose bumps!
Best song - real stuff
Am i the only one who is a big sucker for the movements of bandmembers when they perform?
I finally found someone who relishes in such a thing 😭 it's so mesmerizing for me to watch the way band members move.
+Leora Ojadi YES! I think people don't appreciate it enough haha
I've been looking for this😱😱
+Justin Ely agreed
Makes me happy and sad and honestly, feel ALL the feelings. One of my favorite by them. For always ❤️
kind of obsessed with the amity affliction, hi
