    I was at Fort Carson from 1997 to 2002. The post has changed big time since I was stationed there. Especially going out to butts army airfield where I worked. That part of post is now built up. I loved playing ball at McKibben gym or Garcia Gym. PMI down in pueblo is great for those that love to do the quarter mile dragrace track or Bandimere is the pro level quarter mile track in Denver. There is so much to do as far as activities, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the winds, Pikes Peak, I used to play ball off post at prospect lake. Colorado Springs is one most beautiful cities I have ever been stationed at. There is hunting, camping, hiking, car activities, performance shops, mountain biking, fishing, ice skating, parks to visit and driving in the mountains such as Hwy 24 pass Manitou springs is amazing. Cripple Creek has a really great casino section. The average cost of buying a home has skyrocketed. the starting price to buy a home on average is about 300k. Looking at fountain, security, or even widefield may have a little bit better prices on homes. One of my favorite duty stations. I was in 10th SF GRP and later in 3ACR when they were their back on the late 90s mid 2000s before they move to fort hood.

      I was stationed there back in 2000-2003 during my first enlistment. I was inBravo Troop with 1/3 ACR. We deployed to Sinai in 2001 for cohesive training. My fave things on that base were Commo Hill and the mini px on the hill towards the front gate 😅...just outside the gate on B St was the infamous De Javu ...military personnel free on Sundays lol. Hundreds were spent there on weekends 😌. Thanks for the memories brother!

    My first unit was A co. 3/28 Inf, 4th ID, but I've never been to Ft Carson. After basic, ait and airborne I went to Wiesbaden, Germany to a forward brigade that was attached to 8th ID. I was in that unit almost a year and went through many redesignations and eventually
    became D co. 4/8, 8th ID at Manheim, Germany. I was able to transfer to 8th Aviation in the process as a pathfinder and changed the direction of my next 3 years.
    I ended up as a pathfinder in 6th cav, Ft Hood, good unit, great group of guys! Had alot of fun there!!

    I arrived at Fort Carson in Feb 1982 It was my first duty station. I knew I was in trouble when they issued me artic gear. It was so fuckin cold. That wind coming off the mountains would cut right through your clothes and freeze the fibers you needed many layers to stay warm. I was in 1/12 Infantry and those people lived in the field about 3 weeks a month. I remember the first time I went to the field went to sleep in my sleeping covered with my shelter half I woke up to take a leak and everything was covered in snow. I thought I was going to die. Being raised in Southern California I wasn't use to that harsh climate. I had never seen snow in my life. So after surviving winter the army decided in May that I should go to Fort Hood. It was so fuckin hot and mugging. I was their till my ETS.

    My Dad volunteered for Vietnam when we lived in Germany in the early '60's. We left Germany for Ft. Lewis,WA. He became part of the IVth Infantry. Went to Vietnam on the Pope. Got stationed in Pleiku. Was there from September 1966 til mid August 1967. Went out with an Army buddy who got out and married a local girl in Massachusetts. In the car accident that killed the driver my Dad's skull was crushed between the dashboard and roof. The Army found a surgeon who did the cranial reconstruction. The filmed these operations at Harvard Medical School. My Dad did his recovery at the Charlestown Naval Hospital in Boston Massachusetts. A year and half later he was released and sent to Ft. Carson. They threw him in the stockade and charged him with desertion during combat. He tried to tell anyone who would listen about the accident,surgery,etc... Finally someone checked on my Dad saying he had been receiving his paychecks and paying child support. Turns out someone in the Army knew my Dad was at the Naval Hospital because the Navy got Dad's checks. He liked Colorado but went back to Germany as soon as he could.

    Thanks buddy for the Vid was stationed in Ft Carson from 1982-1983 4th infan div 2/34 CSC unit. My short stay there was back in the early 80's station of choice was a option when going into the Army of course i picked Colorado i loved it there , i was a 63T Abrams and Bradley Combat equipment mechanic which i also got a 5k enlistment bonus because of MOS, that said 5 weeks at Carson i bought a CJ-5 from Rocky Mountian 4x4 and we spent most weekends hitting so many cool little towns threw out the state... Sadly i got my PCS orders 9 months there shipped out to the Rock in West Germany at the 13 month mark. I considered moving back there after i got out figuring opening a repair shop there because of not just Ft Carson but Peterson AFB and the AF acdemy.... I sadly seen some death during the time there and that was guys taking there cars or trucks up into Brown Mountian and back then with many cars and trucks with drum brakes coming back down out of the mountians many guys would wash out there brakes and with no gaurd rails would end up over a cliff.... Also 3-2 Beer worked much better up in the mountians along with MA Natures best Air cond.

    I'm currently stationed here at Carson as well, I'm with 2nd brigade, 277FA HHB as a 13F. Also you forgot to mention the locals always know when we are out in the field with artillery. I live in falcon which is 30 miles east of carson, my family who live out in falcon as well can hear the impacts and it shakes and rattles the windows. Usually wakes up the locals when we are doing all nighters lobbing rounds down range lol.

      I just signed my contract to be a 13F and my station of choice was fort Carson, they tried to tell me Sill and Polk were my only options, and I said you need to pick other ship dates because I don’t want to be a 13F in either of those places, and I was able to get Carson after hounding him more lmao. It’s all in writing so I’m good to go. Any advice? How do you like your unit/the units available to a 13F there?

    • @corbinkalter4608
      @corbinkalter4608 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hahahaj7117 do you know what brigade you are going to? If not probably won't know until closer to your graduation date from AIT. Anyway your experience will be different as is everyone's we have 3 different brigades you can end up in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd brigade, i don't know alot about 1st or 3rd brigade but from what I hear from other people who do a on post transfer to 2nd brigade is that those brigades suck at work/life balance as in field time constantly late work days ect..2nd Brigade is the only brigade that is about 6 miles from division Hq and the other brigades on main post so it's nice being out of sight and away from all the BS.
      As for work and daily stuff we do it depends. Mondays are usually motorpool Monday and the rest of the week is dependent on what needs to done such as layouts, classes, doing admin work ect. Formation is 0630 be prepared to know the ivy song that we all sing everymorning after we salute the flag
      Mondays are run days, Tuesday is upperbody, Wednesday is legs Thursday is tactical day so usually ruck March's for pt distance is dependent on who's running pt. Fridays are usually another run type of day or sports pt. Pt ends at 0730 show back up at 0930 and do the work that needs to be done. If you have a competent leader he or she should always have a white board in the office with the "due outs" for the day that need to be done
      how I run shit with my Joe's is if we complete all those due outs on the board and its 12:00 and nothing else has came down the line we're going home or I'll send the Joe's back to there rooms and stay on standby, stay in uniform though but for me idc what they do play games watch TV nap idc I'm not keeping my dudes at the cof or motorpool for hours just sitting on there phones doing nothing it's a waste of there time.
      We are very good at getting shit done and then leaving and hiding for the rest of the day because we don't like getting stuck in more bs or tasked out on mind numbing tasks..
      Field time for 2nd brigade at least is not very often, this year I have been to the field twice once for 3 days the other just for the day, this month we will be in the field for a week and it will be a once a month thing until about Oct Nov again dependent on who you go to experience may differ lol. I've been attached to a Cav scout battalion and infantry battalion during my time here if you get stuck with the cav (19D) I'm sorry your going to just be someone who unfucks there Call for fires because regardless of what any cav scout tells you they suck at it. Infantry is the way to go if you like that kicking in door hooah shit.. every field event I been on with them has been awesome and also if your maneuver commander or element doesnt know how to utilize you then you will just become another body to kick in doors and less of calling in hate from the sky. If this is the case this is where being the infantry platoons most valuable asset comes into play where you can respectufully tell them no were not doing that we are doing (xyz) cause this is my job and I'm not being utilized the way I should to support you and your mission.
      I had one time where they tried using me and my RTO basically just as there radio bitches and not to call for fire or do our jobs like legit be there own personal RTOs for the commander and PSG..

    I did two tours there, just one year each, then back to Germany. Was with HHB 1/19FA, 4ID from July 1982-July 1983, and HHB 5/29FA from August 1985-August 1986. Loved it both times. Several rotations to NTC Fort Irwin, several TDY’s and tons of weeks in the field, like Pinion Canyon. Got hit with hail both tours, and blizzards/snowstorms. Lived off post the first tour and got family housing on post after 3 months and from our quarters you could see NORAD. It was a great time and my oldest son loved it so much that he’s looking at moving there. It’s beautiful but that cold kills me. Great places to go and enjoy touring. If anyone gets stationed there enjoy it as much as possible.

      How did you like germany?

    • @wilfredosoto2722
      @wilfredosoto2722 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheTuscaloosa my first tour was in Northern Germany at General Lucius D. Clay Kaserne, Garlstadt Germany, near Olsterholtz-Scharmbeck, Southeast of Bremerhaven, with HHB 1/14 FA (reflagged HHB 4/3 FA), with 2AD (FWD) from August 1983-August 1985. It was tough, and considered as tough as the Berlin Brigade, but as the only US combat unit in the North we were always training with other countries and went to Denmark and the Netherlands besides training sites in Germany. It was pretty cool, except that they really rode us hard. Great training, just not so much fun for the family because there wasn’t a lot to do. We had to use VCR’s to watch TV because we couldn’t get AFN except on the radio where we lived on the economy. The second tour was with HHB 2/6 FA (Reflagged as HHB 4/82) from September 1986-September 1990, with 3AD, at Hutier Kaserne, Hanau Germany, East of Frankfurt. We lived on the economy for about a year and got family quarters at Pioneer Housing. My wife at the time got a job on Pioneer Kaserne, walking distance from our quarters, with AAFES at the Shopette there. It was actually a lot more fun than our first tour because we were close to practically every thing support wise, AFN TV too! So got to travel to places with MWR, and tons of activities. We definitely had a great time and training was great too. Lots of field training and we supported 11ACR, over watching the Fulda Gap. I got a chance to revisit Germany last year before COVID-19 hit. We traveled through Europe for 3 weeks and visited the places I had been stationed at. My new wife loved it all and we’re making plans to go back, especially the UK, and Bavaria, and maybe the Mediterranean because we didn’t get to it on the last trip. In short it was great being stationed in Germany. Added bonus was that one of my sisters was in the Air Force and stationed in Wiesbaden while I was on my second tour, so we took trips with her family too. Good times.

    Was stationed at Ft Carson in the 1980s. I liked Colorado Spring but I hated ft Carson. Going to the field man that sand was like talcum powder it gets in everything and everywhere. You had to make such to put socks over your boots before getting in your sleeping bag so no scorpions 🦂 didn’t climb in your boots. Big spiders and snakes in the field also. Training was cool just bad leadership. Lived off base on Academy Boulevard. They had just built this new apartment complex called Strawberry Hill. But like I said I hated Ft Carson because of the unit I was in, and the capt. of the unit was a dick.

    Was there for a year and a half as I was drafted during Vietnam war 1970 ..stayed in coal heated ww11 barracks, of course I hated being forced by the government to live under communism to fight a bullshit war for profits supposedly against communism which is for nothing as we are in it under the NWO but any way if your going there your not interested in my past. The weather is mostly Sunny it can snow in October as you watch the snow move down pikes peak week by week..It’s a military town that had air force academy at that time probability still does also has NORAD in Cheyenne mountain so towns people not friendly as we are in news papers for crime all the time, well that’s all I don’t miss the place,especially the smell of breakfast food and coal before dawn.
