- In this video I give an in depth tour and test drive of a 2001 Subaru Forester L AWD. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I show the car idling as well as take it on a thorough test drive through the city and highway on various surfaces. A thorough drive of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
This is gonna be my first car. Old subarus are the BEST
My first car
Not the head gaskets, cylinder #4 on ej25, wheel bearings, RUST (to be fair all cars), cheap af paint, lack of interrior insulation, and 4eat is meh.
But I'm still going to buy another older boobaru 😂
*head gaskets have entered the chat*
I was going to get one, but it rusted out and had to go. Then I was going to get my grandfather's 2007 Dodge Caravan. That started rusting and my grandpa just traded it in for a 2014 Grand Caravan, which must be my first car now.
Fr tho
That's something I like about Subaru's, pillerless windows. Makes them seem more sporty or something.
Frameless doors are THE best
I have drove my 2001 subaru for 13 years. I love my forester. I have used it through many types of weather I almost drove it through hurricane Katrina. It has always been my favorite car since my piece of shit chevy cavalier. I love my subaru
I used my forester in car challenges since 2004
I met someone who had one about that length of time. Apart from servicing and usual wear and tear items, nothing went wrong with it. Not one thing !
Timeless classic. I owned a 2nd & 3rd Gen Forester. Just bought a Forester 2022 Wilderness.
I bought the exact same car a year ago with an engine overheating issue due to the infamous head gasket problems they have. I overhauled the engine and put MLS new gaskets, the thing now runs strong like a tank. It’s my daily driver and I love it!
Still going strong? How much of the engine did you overhaul? Was it just head gaskets or did you do more?
I hope you bought it! I bought a 98 forester L at 169000 miles and the car runs like a champ! Its currently at 193000 and I haven't had one problem. This car can run at speed on dirt gravel and sand like it was concrete and on low gear car practically climb a mountain.
My cousin had this same exact car in red with a 5 speed manual before he died. I loved this car it’s so much fun
This was a great car, and still is today. Best shape Forester in my opinion.
the 1997-2002 Subaru Forester was assembled in
Ōta, Gunma, Japan
240k on my forester, and still driving strong! Subaru's are worth every penny you pay for it. Our forester is the most reliable vehicle we've owned (since it had 54 miles when we got it.) Definitely a vehicle of choice in my family!
Do you still have it? What year is it?
Mine has 340k miles and no issues at all
I own one of these and they're amazing!! Alot better in manual thou..
Its been 10 years you still own it?
I absolutely love these Early 2000's Subarus...
I'm still debating on what I want my first car to be, and a '03 Outback Impreza Sport is a front-runner.
Did you get it?
I have this exact model & color 2002. Love it more every day.
my forester has 270,000 miles rides great-love it, slow start-the engine is turning 4 wheels
I just picked mine today ☺ 134,000 miles !
How's the car holding up for you?
I have one. It was one of my dad's. It's a 2nd car for me but I end up driving it a lot Not at 1st because it made me sad to even see it. I love it.
Mine has 178k and still running strong!
Eddie Manougian 158k right here :)
I have a 2002 Forester sport with 143k, love it!!! :)
@@zacharyreynolds4303 how's she running currently? I'm getting one for my first aswell
The dad of one of my ex girlfriends had one of those back in the day! Thanks for another trip in the way back machine!
Ranked #8 in winter preparedness this thing has a tank for an Engine meaning it can go up to 300k miles standard. I have almost bald tires yet it still does well in the snow. I have a real spare tire with the original tread which is about an inch, the tires I have on it may be the originals since they are almost bald, it has 109k miles on it. Bought it for 5k including taxes. I put 2k cash and rest on credit card. Can be resold for 7k for the condition of it but I will probably keep driving the crossover as my daily commute for 5 more years then show it off with a classic plate.
I love my car that is this car but the "Sport" model, but the head gasket failure is REALLY annoying, and so many cars got affected by it! When I bought my forester in 2005, it was 3 years old. The previous owners had put it up for sale because it needed a new head gasket, so before I could drive it home I had to wait for 5 weeks. Had a few troubles after that, alternator, 12v plug, cigarette lighter, clock, nothing major. But then, last year, I had to replace the gasket AGAIN! So now it has a new gasket! Subaru said with this gasket they have fixed the problem, but I'm sure I'll be back at the dealer replacing the gasket in a few years! Other than the gasket problem, my CHECK ENGINE light has been on forever because of the e-vap system, nothing that harms the car. Tell me of your stories with your foresters! Other than those two things, my car is EXTREMELY reliable! Got 142k miles on it, still running strong (until the gasket blows) love it! NEVER gonna sell it! :)
I just bought a manual version. Mainly to tow my vintage fibreglass boat. AWD with low range capability is brilliant on boat ramps :-)
Could you please do a review of a 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring fully loaded, I want to know a little more about that crossover. Thanks!
i like how the 1997-2008 Foresters used a Station Wagon design for a crossover
My aunt over in Vermont also has a car like this and I think that it is really plush and the seats are comfortable and its really very nice.
I have a 2003 Forester, bought in July 2002. Best generation of the Forester. I enjoyed it when Subarus were, well, Subarus.
These are great cars! We have an '03 with 120K miles, still going strong.
86k+ miles!? That is beautiful.
@Pedro It's the Parking Lights switch which controls the parking lights, tail lights, front side marker lights, and license plate lights; as they run independent of the headlight switch.
Gotta love that sound of the boxer engine
So lucky u get off for summer so early, I still have my exams this month, anyways have a nice vacation!!!
How easy and economical are they to drive? I was thinking of getting one for my next car, around 1997-2002.
Gotta LOVE Subaru!!!!
We have a 2005 Forrester 2.0 X with perm. 4wd and hi-lo box. It's soo great to drive!. Only disadvantage is the reasonably high maintainance engine and the fact it's not quite economic with it's fuel consumption :). Especially since ours runs on LPG.
I like how this Subaru has a chime like GMC
Lower pitched but better
@@SpongeBobMeBoy6153 Yeah. GMCs chime
The 05-09 Outbacks have pillarless windows and absolutely no wind noise from them. Mostly because the prev generation had that problem so they paid special attention to it I guess.
Great video!! I love Foresters! If you see any more please make more vids!!
I love this Subaru you've got there Kyle
I like to have a Subaru Forester for my first car like a 2001 that is
My family had a 99 model. Ahh the memories.
I am going to test drive (with the intention to buy) a 2001 Subaru Forester L tomorrow that has a 136,000 miles on it. Any advice?
HOW did it all go? How long did it last you?
I have my eyes on an Urban Silver 07 forester. Looks very nice.
I really like the whole entire line of Subees.
Man, I can hear the piston slap from miles away.. No hate, I drive the same exact car. Subarus FTW!
Starts right up!
Is it a pain to change the spark plugs or is it easy accessible?
I just don't understand why wind noise bothers so many. I've learned to tune it out, because most cars have wind and road noise to some degree.
I guess I really wouldn't know cuz my parents have never gotten anything newer than 5 years old for themselves, so there have always been some flaws with their cars.
my mom has the 2002 forester and it is just great in the snow
For the time these are pretty rad, ngl
I love the 2000 To 2005 Foreresters ! had green stick shift living the life back then
This car is very big in the stance buisness
What do u mean
Ppl like to stance this year model
Nikolai Mcduffie what is the stance business
Its when u slam your car really low to the ground and the wheels camber in just search stanced cars and u will see what im talking about
Who’s watching this 10 years later?
Me lmao, tryin to get a 01 but now since it’s like 19 years old and head gaskets are a pain to replace...thinking if I should get one and it’s a manual I found so let’s see
i would like to know where is this subaru after 10 years
Very nice! Have fun on summer vacay!
lol at the weed shnibbles everywhere in the dash console and center console.
Those r called ‘frameless windows’. A pillarless veh is called a ‘hardtop’. I’m surprised that u didn’t check all fluids &all 5tire pressures b4 your initial test drive.
Subaru for life.
the transmission on the 1997-2002 Subaru Forester/ Chevrolet Forester (India)
Transmission
4-speed automatic
5-speed manual
What was the price on this car if you can remember pls...
does anyone know how to make it so the car doesn't honk when i lock and unlock it? please help me :( gets so annoying i have the same model and year
@NIKOVIDIOT When the seals get old then they start to leak air. Older MBZ and BMW cars with frameless windows had a feature where the window would drop down a bit upon opening the door and go back up when shut. All other cars got that feature in the 2000s. I used to own a 97 ES300 and it had wind noise due to that, I'm not the only one btw it was a big issue being raised on the forums.
This car looks like the Vulcar Ingot from gta 5!
I'm gonna sell my truck ( the one in my picture ) and buy one of these probably an 02 or an 04 manual. I even found an 08 outback manual for cheap
Have you bought your car yet?
Ye.. Did you??
You mentioned the bug shield rattling. Well, you camera has a bit of a rattle on the tripod too. Just letting you know in case ypu weren't aware of it. Great video though, Nice car too.
They Do Like Riley's Dad's Forester From Inside Out.
Man that startup… sounds cooler than Chevy!
Why's this running so hot? Mines on 1/3 the temp gauge normal temperature.
1:06 Sounds Like ‘00 Chevy Tahoe, Subrban, GMC Yukon/Yukon Denali/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade
Great Cars
One of the best places to drive a Subaru Forester is Rochester, NY!
I just got a 2008 Subaru Forester Sports in Subaru blue. It has a five speed manual
lucky sob
Nick Dovie haha I'm gonna sti swap it
I actually own a 2001 Subaru has really good storage come apartment and has gas mileage and and it's 🚙🚙blue there pretty and Subaru vehicles have ever good safety and you get alerted when your in a car accident 🚧🚧
The horn sounds alot like MY dads Subaru Outback sedan a 2001 version
Can you please do 2007 subaru forester sports
could you do a tour of a 95-97 outback if you can? thanks
Frameless windows and doors mean serious wind noise. It's the same feature that affected 97-01 Lexus ES 300s which was a shame since it's a real quiet car in general.
can you take a tour with mitsubishi outlander ? tks
@MrPS3Wii I wouldn't disagree with you. Subaru's a great automobiles.
Kyle you get off for summer early!
i think that car could be a nice sedan instead of a Suv SW, anyway nice and simple car!
I like that song 12:07
are u in the seattle area
First gen forester is the best!
I have the same carr!!! but its the sports model
Nikolai Mcduffie bro same!!!
Bro same! Mine is red and is named Max.
i actually saw a 99 bmw 328i that uses the same keyless remote
Subaru its mine favorite car to drive so cool sound coms out of the exsaust
@NIKOVIDIOT If it was bullshit why was the design canned? Why were people complaining on forums? What else do you want to deny about cars?
I would love to drive a car like that one!!!
When I say it was my family's, I mean it was my grandparents'. Nothing major (and as far as i know, nothing minor) went wrong for the entire time they owned it (new until around 100,000 miles).
Damn this probably sold real quick
@7477238 ya my forester does have some noise on the windows. but if thats the worst, its well worth it
i would so buy this if i was able.
what does the switch on top of the steering column do?
Pedro D. Avalos parking lights
please review a suabru baja
It would have great low end torque if it was a manual!
Yeah most cars have wind noise to some degree because that type of wind noise is generated by the rake of the windshield or the side mirrors which is fine because it's not intrusive. Wind noise created by door seals that aren't tight enough is annoying especially if a car in general is very quiet because that noise is now pronounced. The engineers should be able to tune out noises not the owners who paid money for a car.
@barnie7219 I don't think so; as far as I know all of their modern cars have been AWD.
My Brother Had The Same Car! 😃
Is it just me or does the gauges and radio of this car look like a Honda Civic's?
Sounded like the GM chime
What do the miles (1269) above the odometer mean?
Trip miles
