The mastermind behind this sound and arrangement is Charles Stepney...an absolute musical genius who was classically trained. I came for Minnie. Happy to read it was closing credit music for US. This is why you don't walk out of a movie while there is still something happening on the screen, people! Okay?
I first heard Minnie Riperton in 1969 with the group "The Rotary Connection" singing "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp". Then came her first album "Come To My Garden". A masterpiece!
Whether it's used at the end of Us by Jordan Peele or by Donald Glover at the end of an episode of Atlanta, I can't help but get chills from the sheer brilliance of these Black minds. Thank you for creating all this.
The CFP commercial spots and Shazam helped me find this. Couldn’t stop humming the chorus for a few days. I also feel like I’ve heard it in a Tarantino film or something.
So this song is used at the end of the film “Us” by Jordan Peele. Maya Rudolph is Minnie Riperton’s daughter. Maya Rudolph is the voice of the Hormone Monstress in Big Mouth. Jordan Peele voices Duke Ellington in Big Mouth. So Jordan Peele is friends with this artist’s daughter. (Bonus fact Jordan Peel is married to Gina from Brooklyn 99)
No matter which is the reason that brought you here...what matters is that you came here to listen and enjoy this beautiful song. God bless Minnie Riperton for having given us her gift. ❤

[Verse 1]
Will somebody wear me to the fair?
(To the morning, sing a lovely flower)
Will a lady pin me in her hair?
(Mmm mmm mmm)
Will a child find me by a stream?
([?])
Kiss my petals and weave me through a dream
[Chorus]
For all of these simple things and much more, a flower was born
It blooms to spread love and joy, faith and hope to people forlorn
Inside every man lives the seed of a flower
If he looks within he finds beauty and power
[Bridge]
Ring all the bells, sing and tell the people everywhere that the flower has come
Light up the sky with your prayers of gladness and rejoice for the darkness is gone
Throw off your fears, let your heart beat freely at the sign that a new time is born
[Verse 2]
May mosaydee kaylie lowya roses
(May mosaydee kaylie lowya roses)
Say money ain't na na no oh na
(Mmm mmhmm mmm mmm)
Looking for vayda tay breeze
(Looking for vayda tay breeze)
May mosaydee kaylie lowya roses
(Mmm mmhmm mmm mmm)
[Chorus]
For all of these simple things and much more, a flower was born
It blooms to spread love and joy, faith and hope to people forlorn
Inside every man lives the seed of a flower
If he looks within he finds beauty and power
[Outro]
(Na na na na, na na na na na na)
(Na na na, na na na na na na na)
(Na na na na, na na na na na na)
(Na na na, na na na na na na na)
(Na na na na, na na na na na na)
(Na na na, na na na na na na na)
(Na na na na, na na na na na na)
(Na na na, na na na na na na na)

This song gives me the same vibes as the song from The Fith Demension- Age of Aquarius
I actually thought it was the Fifth Dimension! What a beautiful song!
Same Era - Late 60s...
I LOVE THIS SONG; heard it on the soundtrack of US and instantly thought it was Minnie!! What a GREAT SONG- LYRICIALLY AND VOCALLY!! AWESOME!!
She lives within us all as an inner angel of love and thats why we feel her frequencies so strong. Tears of love
She is like fertilizer for that seed that exists in the hearts of every man and woman
I usually hate people who comment "movie so and so brought me here" but damn did Us bring me here.
Me too !
yep, never heard of this song or singer before
Me too.
Yep. Incredible song. Heard it on old cassette tapes back in day. Still a classic. I’m old school tho. It was funny when we found out Maya Rudolph was her Ms Ripperton’s daughter.
Right? And I'm a full adult. I had never even heard of this song until Us.
My new jam. Thanks
Jordan Peele!💜💜💜
Im glad someone shared it in the movie. But now it's the masses it's not a treasure anymore
It's amazing
@@jamesblack1194 .still a treasure..multiple listeners cant tarnish the quality

Another reason to watch Atlanta. Season 3 Episode 4.
Having known the song before Us, it was such a surprise and delight hearing it at the end.
Terrible..but awesome🎧🎶🐇😃😰
Same for me! I felt it fitted the ending of the film so perfectly, and I'm glad it reminded me this wonderful song exists.
I felt the same way...a huge smile was on my face when this was playing...
I first heard it in a commercial that's being played now, I just saw Us the other night.
The mastermind behind this sound and arrangement is Charles Stepney...an absolute musical genius who was classically trained. Stepney was also was the real sound behind Earth Wind and Fire...but Maurice White and the record companies stole the credit after Stepney’s death in 1976. Eventually White had to settle with the family years later.
Sabrina, THANK YOU!!!
one of the most beautiful songs to ever exist
Will somebody wear me to the fair?

Will a child find me by a stream?
Kiss my petals and weave me through a dream.

"Come To My Garden" is a masterpiece.
anna-lena Jonsson yep
The new series "Them" on Amazon Prime jogged my memory on this obscure gem and brought me here!
I came for Minnie. Happy to read it was closing credit music for US. This is why you don't walk out of a movie while there is still something happening on the screen, people! Okay?
Maya Rudolph’s momma had a voice that was one of a kind
Us (2019) by Jordan Peele brought me here.
This has been my wake up alarm song for the last few years. So timeless!
I first heard Minnie Riperton in 1969 with the group "The Rotary Connection" singing "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp". Then came her first album "Come To My Garden". A masterpiece!
I love Rotary Connection, and Charles Stepney.
Whether it's used at the end of Us by Jordan Peele or by Donald Glover at the end of an episode of Atlanta, I can't help but get chills from the sheer brilliance of these Black minds. Thank you for creating all this.
James May did it first
these weren't all nor mostly black musicians. this is also a cover of a non-black composer's beautiful piece.
@@TheRealPynkPanther nobody should care
Also used in the series 'Them'.

Us was a wild ride. Playing this song on repeat now
Saw it this morning and it's still on my mind.
It knocked me for a loop. Really makes you think.
Hypnotic. Ethereal. Enchanting. Uplifting. And plain bloody awesome!
The CFP commercial spots and Shazam helped me find this. Couldn’t stop humming the chorus for a few days.
I also feel like I’ve heard it in a Tarantino film or something.
Jordan Peele's "Us" brought me here.
That was a stroke of brilliance seeing the scale of the movement
Same 🙌
Same. I watched US tonight and loved it.
SAME
Incredible song to end a great, wild movie.
Solid research.
Nice.
Also, Maya Rudolph has had four children with Paul Thomas Anderson. (Yes, *that* Paul Thomas Anderson.)
@@Wired4Life2 Plus PTA used the same song in Inherent Vice
Yeah, his wife has a name. She is a comedienne in her own right, Chelsea Peretti
The voice of an Angel
Voice of the angels. Why have I never heard this song before, thank you Jordan Peele.
I'm old enough to remember it, but never knew it's name😊😊😊😊
And now a new generation will enjoy this music 🎶🎉😊😁
Maida Cameron true...👍👍
@@rollsroyce7385 yes indeed
The mess on radio today is why we don't hear songs like this today. Not to forget that music education funds have been slashed.
A moment of reflection for all the people who still can't find this song
Quite frankly one of the best songs ever written. We will probably never be blessed with music this good again
No matter which is the reason that brought you here...what matters is that you came here to listen and enjoy this beautiful song. God bless Minnie Riperton for having given us her gift. ❤
she was truly amazing. This song is one of the best songs ever heard about the female body.
philip berger yes she was died so young
I was in a bar in Bangkok, heartbroken, listened to this song. The memory still lingers. It was a bittersweet moment.

Inside every man is the seed of a flower, if he looks within he's find beauty and power... Les Fleurs -Minnie Riperton
I always loved that lyric!
that Microsoft surface commercial brought me here, I heard it in “Us” and I forgot to look it up so the commercial reminded me LMFAO
Going to go see the first sunrise of Chicago for 2022, at the lakefront, this morning... To this song🌺
This song is a revelation rejuvenating my soul.
The 70's were a magical time, and the music was a big part of it! What a beautiful voice Minnie had!
Love this song always and the Beautiful Lady singing it
Who's here in 2024 teaching their kids real music ❤

It took me over a decade to find this song. 😭🙌 Let's take a minute for the people still looking.
A Favorite Jam of my Life from the 70's... She was unreal Talent!!! Just heard this used on a commercial just now...'Beautiful memories'..

I watch Minnie's unsung episode last night and they played this song and OMG it's so beautiful.
That's where I discovered it... I went out and bought her CD and I'm blown away by how beautiful her songs were.
That's also how I discovered this. She was such an artist!
I came here from the Pitchfork list of the best songs of the 70s. So glad I did. RIP Minnie
