The Duster is the most underrated car 4x4 I've ever seen. I had one and made on overland trip with, having just regular size BFGoodrich tires, the organizer of the trip was blew away by how easy I followed his 2 tons all rigged 4x4.
Driven the Duster through several game parks that include the Masai Mara, Mt Elgon, Tsavo West, Amboseli, Selous, Mkomazi. Took us every where without getting stuck and amazing fuel economy
From South Africa and the never ending sand dunes of the oldest desert in the world... The Duster fitted with 30mm struts lift, 235/70R16's mud tires, Detroit diff lock on the rear axle and Torsen diff on the front axle - it turned heads where ever I went. Ok, I also tuned the engine to 100KW and 340Nm. Oh and the whole thing is like 1400KG. All in all I paid just under 20.000 EURO - brand new. Much more expensive 4x4's got stuck - I did not :-) And I do not get only 7KM on a litre diesel! I get 14KM. Now build a vehicle like that and see how it does in snow and let us know.
@@204154367 2020 Model (Bought it in February just before the Corona Virus hit us). It has a 27cm ground clearance (in front). 31cm rear diff clearance!!! Compare that with the FORD Ranger/Everest 4x4 (22cm rear diff clearance) and TOYOTA Hilux/Fortuner 4x4 (also 22cm on the rear diff). All I did was let one of this vehicles drive in front of me and their back axles cleaned and leveled the sand road :-) Oh and some of the stuff I did myself and some was done at SupaQuick Humansdorp, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Suspension lift is the difficult part because of spring removal and tools needed. Rear diff lock was a breeze though.

We had the first gen Duster 1.5 diesel for about 4 years and reluctantly had to sell her to due COVID and my wife losing her income. Took the vehicle on grade 2 and dare I say touching level 3 tracks and the vehicle performed extremely well. The engine is what made the vehicle so unique as there is much at this size with a diesel engine that capable.
Bad journalists always say the interior is poor quality. But is the same as 80% of cars produced now. And 95% of cars produced more then a few years ago. Easy cleaning, non-aging quality plastic. 😂😂😂😂 Interior is impressively good for any car, let alone with the price tag of half of any sort of trendy SUV. And the engines fine. You don't need a 5 litre inefficient basic engine in 2020. As you've proven.
I really don't see the interior as awful as reviews make it seem. My wife's VW beetle from 2007 with only 36K km and always garaged has the dashboard soft touch gets marked/scratched very quickly and it turned all sticky. Apparently there is no fix, only to remove all of it with solvent. And the cabrio roof shrunk so the rear glass fell out! So yeah, I'd prefer cheap and cheerful but it lasts than pretty and soft but it falls apart. Also thanks for this vid, if I go for a Duster I'll be geting the pedders :)
We got the TCe 130 GPF 2WD (15th Anniversary edition, almost full option >> no 360 camera), and I must say it does pack a punch specially when the turbo kicks in. The interior is of course mostly made out of plastic, but so are most (affordable) modern cars these days. This car contains everything you need and some more, at a low price. We don't do any offroading with it, or at least nothing to the extent that would require a 4WD with a bigger engine, but climbing up a steep hill poses no problems at all, even without having to shift into lower gear. Fuel consumption is at this point an average of 5.4L here, so I'm pretty pleased with that one too considering the car does weigh around 1300-1400kg and sometimes has to haul ass, if you get what I mean. One thing that I DID notice is the fact that shifting from first to second gear goes a bit bumpy. First gear to second gear is too short in my opinion. I just never seem to get it right. This seems to be mentioned by other Duster owners too. Oh and I never shift at the moments the "dashboard" advises me to. If I would follow that one I would be driving 50km/h in 4th gear. Not gonna happen. LOL Cheers and thank you for the very informational video!
Do not compare the gears with other brands... 1st gear is a "workaround" for the lack of a proper reductor. The 1st gear is only to move the car a little. That's why even in the owner's manual it's written that if the car is not loaded too much, start with the 2nd gear. But yeah, who reads manuals these days ? Also to be in 4th gear with the Duster it's ok if the rotations are at least at 2000. And it is...
the first gear is the hack renault used to get around using a real low/high gear assembly. it would have made it more complex and costly. 1st gear is for "hail mary" up the gravel climbs on the mountain roads
Keep in mind 1st gear is more of a crawler gear, on road driving it’s best to start in 2nd gear, when microadjusting on parking spots etc. 1st gear is better but when going from a red light go in second gear, and yes, I usually put a duster into 4th at 50km/h. It sort of is like the gears are 1 step lower than normal, like 2nd is first, 3rd is second 4th is third and so on
After I'd driven my Duster at a military test/training ground it totally changed my attitude towards this car. Offroaders has told me that this car actually is on par with Wrangler and Defender IF you accept the fact that it hasn't manually lockable drivetrain, nor the torque or ground clearance.

Torsenin lukothan saa molemmille akseleille.
You can have Torsen mounted on both, front and rear axles, some blokes in Russia and here in Romania can help with that
Duster on ollu kiinnostava vaihtoehto seuraavaksi autotoksi, tuolla alustasarjalla kiinnostus vaan lisäänty.
Kunnon alusta muunti tuon auton niiiiin paljon paremmaksi.
@@FinnishCarGuysei mitään pilipalia, tuo iskari/jousisettihä on reilu tonnin hintainen, minusta kohtuuhintainen. Näkyy olevan Jyskässä tuo valmis olevan myynnissä. Kävin koeajamassa aiemmin dusterin ja olin kyllä positiivisesti yllättynyt.
Missä päin Jyväskylää/Keljoa tuo ns. louhos on?
At 08:44 put some bloody chains on your wheels and you will have no problem climbing that little hill. Everything is about the wheels grip.. You can be with a tank and if you have no grip you will not go up there.

We will eventually, it’s been tough to generate content because of geological reasons, but we have something in the pipeline. Because of the way this platform works, we just have to release them in a bunch...
👍
Good car for country roads.
But it's not for heavy use.
Can't ask much, from that clio engine.
Seems a lot of people have proven otherwise. It’s a very impressive little machine for the price point.
