Your channel is absolutely killing it with your reviews. This has got to be one of the best reviews I've seen so far. You are the only ones to actually take the effort to test these helmets. The other so called reviews out there are simply unboxing videos with a run through the specs. You guys are miles ahead in your approach. This test is even better than what you read in the magazines! I just want facts presented in an easy to understand way so I can make my own choice. Exactly what this video does. Well done guys, keep it up!
Thank you for the positive feedback. This motivates us to keep improving our approach, knowing we're on the right track. If you miss something, please feel free to share your experiences with any of these helmet. Thanks for taking the time to leave comment, we appreciate it.
I struggled to figure how I could balance all this information you just gave me. Better than WELL DONE. You hit this one out of the park. Thank You. I fell fortunate to have found your channel.
Such a good channel/review system! Only thing that would be really nice is a link to a blog post with all the same information, or at least having the helmets listed out in the description for easy copy/paste shopping from here.
Excellent review! I just so happened to own the GT Air 2 and feel somewhat validated for choosing this helmet after doing my own research almost 2 years ago. This helmet is everything said and more and has been the most comfortable lid I've owned.
The Nolan N87 is an allround good helmet, comfortable, great visor, good ventilation. The noise didnt seem excessive during a 4500km trip, but i do always wear earplugs on those. For temperature the Nolan has a silver version which reflects light like crazy and stays sensibly cooler than a regula white or black helmet. I even crashed mine and didnt get any nasty brain damage :))
I just got a Shoei GT Air 2 but I’m returning it and getting the RF-1400. Have heard the GT has more noise than the RF, is also not waterproof as water leaks, and is pretty heavy. Though it does seem like a great helmet
Hello Joost, thank you for your feedback! The MIPS liner of the Star uses slip plane technology to make manage rotational impacts. This means that there is a secondary layer on the inside of the EPS that is connected to the rest of the helmet via an elastomer. If the helmet is in an impact, the elastomer allows the helmet to subtly move, which helps manage rotational impact forces better.
This is a really kick ass review. Absolutely killing it. But can you also consider 2 additional helmets that have been getting really big reviews here in the uS. The Quin Design Ghost Umbra and the Ruroc Atlas 4.0. Would love to see that compared to the list you have to which I have 2 from your list. I have the Shoei and the HJC models that you featured.
Great video!!! I do have a few questions for the HJC 70 is it true to size? I received a M 57-58, my head measured at 58.4. I can get the helmet on it just when wear for less than 10mins I have prints on forehead. Should I exchange it for a L or cheek pads ? Also, I’m looking for a daily. Do you think the HJC pro 11 with the HJC HJ-26 Photochromatic Sun Reactive Overlay Lens will be a great fit too? My eyes is very sensitive to light.
Great reviews, very informative and very useful.. thank you .. but I do have a question.. please could you include mixed riding situations in your test .. I have gt air and it’s vents are of no use in summer riding around town at low speed or in winter they don’t stop the visor from fogging even with pinlock in .. many thanks ..AL..
19:07 .... I just grabbed a brand new Shoei NXR2 for considerably less than 629 Euros ... I only paid 409 Euros and at that price it was a no brainer. Seriously impressive helmet ... I've recently also had an AGV K6 and a Shark Spartan RS but the NXR2 is a step above both in overall quality, fit and comfort. Even at full rrp they are worth the money - catch one on offer and they are a complete steal 😉
i want the temperature gain in the winter....i dont want to have freezy face, so +7 celzius degrees is perfect, its like heating in the helmet for the colder days
I had already decided the Shoei GT Air II is my next helmet from other reviews I've seen and just happened to see this one now and now I'm 100% convinced to get it. And, I think I'll be getting it from Champion Helmets, because I have yet to see a better price than you all have. And, from what I understand, if I do see a better price, you'd give me that price too. How cool is that. Thanks for the great reviews of all the helmets. Not too many shops put in the effort you all do. Another reason I wish to support you all by doing business with you. Btw, your website has an issue. It doesn't allow new registrations outside of the purchase process i.e. by using the "Create an Account" selection under the user icon top right.
Thank you for this amazing compression after i see this video i buy my new touring helmet i choose the HJC Rapha 70 Carbon it's really amazing helmet and i was never think about this helmet until I see this video, thank you so much this video is really the best 👍

Disagree with the GT Air 2 getting 5 stars for the visor, mine is so stiff to close it doesn’t close fully, hard to clip down and when it down leaves a gap on one side as it clips only one side so the wind whistles through the gap, the sun visor slider is difficult sometimes impossible to find with thick gloves on the side of the helmet. I also have the RPHA70 and the visor is so much better and easier to use.
Yeah, I've noticed this issue, even in the CH reviews (don't have the helmet yet, but am planning to get one). You can see how the reviewer has issues making the visor close. That actually means, when it is closed, it is a good tight fit, which is probably why the noise levels are so good too. Seems the solution is to press down on the top middle of the visor as the review did a couple of times in the CH reviews.
I am currently trying to decide between 3 helmets. Shoei GT-Air 2, NXR2 and Ruroc Atlas 4.0. What are the chances of doing a review/comparison with the Ruroc? Love the fact your reviews have actual factual information rather than just the reviewers personal opinion. Cheers
The Atlas 4.0 won't even make it to this list because most Rurocs are simply those types of helmets that put form over function. If you're the same, then maybe the Ruroc is for you. 🙂
as an owner of a ruroc atlas, i really think this is the worst helmet i ever owned, really noisy. and the fitment of the liner is absolutely crap.. its a very nice design, but it looks way too big on your head.. mine is a 3.0, but i changed the liner to the 4.0, its a little better, but you can buy a better helmet for under half the price..
I have the Ruroc atlas 3.0, it’s absolutely garbage. Noisy, heavy, bulky and the Bluetooth speaker is chinsy and cheap. The Bluetooth never worked and the cord ripped after two rides. It’s a marketing company, not a helmet company. It mass markets products that really are not that good. On top of that, took me over 8 months to get it
So I did risk it and get the Ruroc Atlas 4.0, and I am extremely happy with it. I've heard numerous people who had the 3.0 say it was garbage. That's why I didn't get the 3.0, but everyone who had the 3.0 who changed to a 4.0 only had good things to say. It's comfortable, it's quite light, the visor is extremely easy to change, the Bluetooth works perfectly, and it looks great. I have no complaints or regrets buying the 4.0. Also, I tried on the Shoei helmets I was considering, and I find the Ruroc a lot more comfy.
What is the head fit between the HJC, Shoei, and Arai? I'm a bit more of a long oval. Which one you recommend. Can i send back the helmet for exchange if it doesnt fit Great review and data. Which helmet liner offers the best level of adjustability?
For a more long oval fit, we'd go with Arai, since they generally offer a wider range of head fits across their helmets. Alternatively, you may want to give the Shoei a shot since the interchangeable interior liners mean you can get a more custom fit. If you find your helmet doesn't fit, you're always free to exchange it. Thanks for he question!

A few years ago, I was just about to buy an Arai XD4 until I did up the chin strap. The poor strap padding under the chin and slightly rearward mounting points of the chin strap resulted in a distinct choking sensation. I ended up buying the Shoei Hornet 2, due to the superior chin strap comfort, and other features being as good as the Arai.
