    It was explained in an interview with the Director, Neill Blomkamp. In short, the prawns are a hive species. When their leaders died, they became rudderless and docile. In the absence of command input and realising that supplies were running short, the ship auto-navigated them to the nearest habitable planet to allow them to disembark and perform repairs. Unfortunately, they encountered us.
    As to why it took them 20+ years to gather the fluid to fuel the pod, it seems that it took that long for a potential new leader (Christopher) to fully mature and start making intelligent plans on behalf of the hive.

    • @Bananakingchad
      @Bananakingchad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah basically he could build a bomb in 5 secs he’s op the entire species intelligence get sent to one leader and if the leader dies then it has to be transferred the plan was to repair and resupply in earth but humanity fucked it up cause Christ wasn’t done gather intelligence so he just dipped with the pilot in the command module

      It might not go through anymore because Neill Blomkamps last movie 'Demonic' was a box office disaster, which has hindered the District 10 project, unfortunately 😔.
      Neill blomkamp was also meant to do an Alien 5 movie, which was meant to follow the events after Aliens and cancelling out Alien 3 and 4. It sounded soo good cause he was gonna keep Hicks and Newt alive. All of his projects, apart from Demonic have been really good. If you like his work, check out his studio here on TH-cam called Oats Studio. Plenty of mini stories with sick visuals.

    IK I'm a little late but for those interested, that "ship" underneath the shack was also kind of like a command module for the mothership. So, yeah, Chris couldn't activate anything remotely until the module itself had power. And tractor beam became his plan B once that thing was no longer airworthy. So that's why they didn't use the remote control before.

    The level of world-building and thought-provoking insight that comes from "District 9" I cannot speak of highly enough. This is a God-tier movie. To me, I compare this movie with Star WArs (original trilogy) or the Matrix in terms of awe-inspiring wonder and amazement in a sci-fi drama. I think the "District 9" documentary style takes it in a different but great direction from so many of the polished slick sci-fi movies of today. Our technology has become so great that we often don't let the idea dominate the movie and let the CGI be the filler it was intended to be. "District 9" skirts this line amazingly well. kudos to Neill Blomkamp for taking me on an amazing journey.

      @@TheMikeLawz so! The Alien spaceship is on Earth due to alien technology. In the movie they explain that the queen alien had died due to an infection she caught on another planet, thus leaving the aliens (who are hive minded) with no leadership. The ship ran on autopilot and due to lack of leadership, the prawns were unaware of their limited resources. The ship auto-navigated to the nearest planet after realizing that unless they made it to a planet that sustained life, the ship would run out of resources & every alien on the ship would also die. So it found the nearest planet in their voyage, Earth, and stopped there which is how they got here. They encountered humans and we saw how that went.
      The hive mind they operated with would also explain why some of them just seemed a little dumber than the rest. There are some intelligent prawns, but the vast majority were not on the same level of intellect, which would explain why they stayed in the camps for so long. It wasn’t until Christopher matured enough to start making plans for the hive.
