  • I’ve been talking to retirees for 10 years and have picked up a wealth of information about retired life; both good & bad, success & failure, enjoyment and regrets.
We can learn from these regrets, hopefully steering us in a better direction ourselves.
    1. I wish I had taken better care of my health
    2. Not increasing my savings while still working
    3. Not reducing my expenses before retirement
    4. Buyer’s remorse over big purchases
    5. I wish I had developed a hobby or interest outside of work

Just wanted to say I’ve been enjoying your channel. I like the straightforward way you just talk to the camera and tell your story. No background music, no fancy editing. Just use useful information.

I'm hopefully just 5-6 years to go now before check out of the rat-race, fingers crossed before I'm 60. Your channel is really helpful in getting me in the right mindset, the honesty in your thoughts shines through and gives a lot of food for thought. Keep it coming!
As someone once said, "Failure to plan is planning to fail.", you can't just blindly wander into retirement but sadly too many people do as they're in the mindset of their parents where you were gauranteed a set some of money from a lifetime at the same company. It's not like that simple anymore but a lot of people just "wing it" and of all the times in your life retirement is not the time you can just pray and hope it'll be OK.
If you do nothing else, clear those damned debts ASAP! Ha ha! I cleared my mortgage 7 years ago in my 40s 'cos I refused to buy a property I couldn't afford, I made sure that money got freed up for other purposes, put some more into pensions each month, some into savings for cash. Just need to be ready, plan it, don't wing it!

Well said. You've cleared up your mortgage? Well done sir. I've been mortgage for 15 year and it made all the difference in the world for me. Saved a ton of money too. Thanks for commenting.

Another likely regret prior to retirement could involve not developing a truly passive source of income that continues during retirement years outside of investments. I'm talking about really acknowledging and having somewhat of an ongoing entity such as a HYSA that thrives as a steady form of guaranteed monthly income (e.g.,150k yielding about $550 liquidity). It is truly amazing to see how productive this could (or in some case could've been) especially if it becomes habitual.

Hi Ronnie, Thanks for another great video! Agree with all your points. I’ve been into health and fitness for the past 25 yr and am 67 now. It’s nice being retired now to have more time for fitness. I can go to Pilates several times a week and love walking in nature each day. I think it makes a huge difference to try your best to be healthy! You’re definitely right about things starting happening in your 60’s!

I retired at 33 years old. when i still live with my parent i save 70% of my income to invest in stock market. Each years i max out my Roth 401k, Roth IRA, HSA.

Great video!! I ll be 55 next month. Thinking of retirement soon, but still hesitating...No dept, house paid , good pension plan from my company , taking care of my health(gym , diet , etc..) but still thinking working few more years to increase my cash ( investments , savings etc..). The question is , is it better to have less and still enjoy life free of work while still being able to do so or have more money later on and not knowing what our future will be (health , etc...) ?

That's a great question. Early retirement is very attractiive, but you just have the weigh the options back-and-forth until you know what's right for you. Well done on your financial accomplishments so far! And thanks for commenting.
