Yo real talk. As a musician/songwriter who gave my whole young life to music, grown in LA... multiple opportunities came that I would not take. One million dollar contract/NDA for one year of being "kept". Had already been fitted for rings and test drove the cars... couldn't do it. Opportunity evaporates. Eventually its just slaving away with a hammer to eat. I watched the music industry deteriorate in the early 2000s and stopped years ago. They destroyed true sound (for the masses). Its just slave jams now. Corporate auto tuned generic trash, brainwash the masses "music."
Agreed. Remember when bands had to pay their dues? By shleping their equipment from one bar to the next. Putting up their posters all over town. Building up their look, their sound. Writing their own music and lyrics. Playing real instruments. Usually multiple instruments. Had to record their demos. They'd give out or send to the music of the record companies. Until that one fortunate day they were "discovered ". Then they'd have an album that was their magnum opus. That music that moved you when you heard it. Because you identified it with your life. That certain song, that when you hear the first two chords. You get goosebumps. Because you already know what song it is. So you turn the volume way up. The days when blood sweat and tears went into their performance. Because it wasn't all auto tune and digital flatscreen technology. The only thing fabulous the performer did was sing without auto tune. So strong and loud. With so much power you could hear them even when the sound went out. (Layne Staley and Paul Rodgers) Now the only wow factor is they change their outfit during the laser show. Remember when at the end of the concert. They were covered in sweat and the same clothes, maybe minus a shirt. (Robert Plant, Jerry Cantrell lol) then did a couple encores. They still managed to sign autographs. I miss those days

@@sonjajoiner my buddy(mid-60ish) has had a studio in his bands practice space for years until he opened a studio/guitar repair shop. What I'm seeing is that labels don't do much for development anymore so bands gotta toss out 40 an hour to my friend, when back in your dad's day(and my friend's earlier career) the label or management would foot that bill. Hell, Queen was put on salary for their own band, the manager that owned the studio bought a Rolls Royce from the proceeds and the band didn't even have solid homes.
