Yeah brand new 64 Gb flash was busy copying stuff to it with 4 copies going in 4 separate windows and BOOM all of a sudden the all copies just stopped and complain its write protected. Data that got copied before it bombed are accessible but I guess I fuked it up right?? to the bin with it?

Update: it worked only once. When I started copying files to the drive, it accepted a few and then appeared the dreaded warning: "write protected." So I did it again, and saw at the "detail disk" stage the info "read-only no". I completed the process as shown, though there seemed little point in clearing a disk already claiming to be clear; upon trying to use it, the result above repeated. So one part of my PC says it's not read-only, another part insists that it is. An enemy hath done this.

CMD or regedit wouldn't work for me but Silicon Power worked a treat. It said it had failed also to contact vendor with "code 121" It then said that it required formatting before use. Formatted and bingo. Thanks a million :-)

Same. Also tried the registry trick, but that only messed with my wifi dongle. I think this means it has hardware write protection, which cannot be removed without messing with the hardware.

Hi Guys, Disk write protection can be due multiple things, given commands are useful only when drive ia having software lock or windows lock if drive is having bad sectors or hardware issue it's can't be repaired.
Just wanna let it be known for future people that have this problem the Silicon Formatter download in the description worked the first try and it was easy ty btw.

so i wanted to try ubuntu . so i used rufus. ubuntu was great but i want my usb back asap. for some reason it did not show up any where in windows. your video showed me exactly what to use. i did some further digging for gpart commands and boom. i got my usb back... man the trouble i went through to use this usb again. i was going to have to saddle up and travel 50km to get another usb... i installed a few so called partition fomat programs but as soon as you go to format pay here.. misleading nonsense any ways thanks for you tutorial 5 years later still helping folk now im going to check rest of your content .any more kowlege i can soak up.. cheers

I can't believe the Formatter Silicon Power worked! It was so simple and didn't even ask for the disk letter, but it worked. It didn't even delete the data. I have been trying to get this thing unlocked for over 2 hours! It was a Boot Camp installer disk created in Mac OS to install Windows on the Boot Camp drive. I have a problem. Mine was caused by a unreal engine project file being copied to it and it is an undeletable file so i think that triggered it. And this tool is showing device not found but then it proceeds to carry on into the low level formatter saying it will delete data but I dont trust it or want to proceed as i dont want to risk wiping my hdd or ssd. Hi-- So I followed the instructions and when I performed "detail disk" I got this: Read-only : No. That was a surprise, as when I tried to format or write to the disk it told me it was write-protected. I did "attr disk clear readonly" anyway, which reported it was successful, and the drive is still, according to Windows Explorer, write protected. Any thoughts?

My USB flash drive mysteriously got Write protected on its own, I have tons of movies, Tv shows, educational business videos, important personal documents and family photos, window apps, and more. Maybe your device is having physical damage or bad sectors which cannot be repaired.
Tried regedit, command prompt, easus recovery/partition. Nothing is working. Pls suggest what to do?

When I try this, it says its it has removed read only sucesfully but doesnt actually remove read only. I have also tried the Regedit method and neither work for me. Any suggestions?

Why sleep mode is required for write protection issue, also you can use windows diffender av to protect your system and it's free.

When i used the command prompt it changed the read only check mark to no but obove that it has one that says read only state:yes and the Silicone formater it only says device not found.
Your drive is having bad sectors kindly get it replaced if it's under warranty

Ended up having to use a program called usb low level format pro. Nothing else was working for me
Yes, sometimes low level format works perfectly for some devices.
"paste" isn't even am option for me, it's there, but it's dim, as if it isn't an option.
This method will not work, don't waste your time searching for solution.

Followed every step with my regedit screen up at the same time. In fact got right to the end where it said "attributes cleared successfully", and yet my usb remains "write protected"
In command prompt window there is is two read only state , if hardware state is still Read only then your drive is curruptes and need to be replaced.

No, it's not like that try this command on any pc most of the time it will work but some time it required to run on same pc.
