This was a cool watch. Like GTA but around the Chesterfield countryside 😂 I'm going to play it conservative on the marathon. I'd go out 3:40 pace and then give it the beans in the last 10k if you're feeling strong. It's a weird beast the marathon - a mixture of fighting boredom and not getting a stitch!

Was messing about with the on screen display stuff for the first time....a bit of a Test Run, if you like :) I was thinking aim for 3:45 and if I slow down and get a sub 4 I'd still be delighted. Thanks mate. It's been serving me well up to now. Given 'only' four runs a week, I think progress has been good. I guess I have to consider that I don't often train for the shorter distances, so just dedicating some time to them and following any plan might have worked just as well. I really like being able to key in a question or request in plain English and get my plan updated to suit, in an instant.
This is so interesting as I was looking the other day at ChatGPT for a plan to see what it looked like. I’m so glad it’s worked out for you and you’ve managed to hit that 5k and also 10k PB. Looking forward to seeing what happens in your half/full marathon.

I'm sure someone with your experience can always judge whether it's giving you a sensible plan or not, and ask it to change this to suit your preferences. All the best :)
I would say those times are very achievable, first marathons are always absolutely vile 🤣🤣 The main thing will be making it to the start, that'll be the hardest thing with the volume of workouts you'll be doing. I always associate that start music with Running brooms 🤣🤣 Thought my PC loaded a different video initially 🤣🤣
You nailed it there mate. Getting to the start of the half is my current concern, with a heel problem flaring up at this late stage. I should learn to just stop running 3 weeks out from any race, as I almost always get late problems like this lol.

Interesting concept Mark. It looks like its working well for you. You've clearly got a good synergy with the LLM as you know to listen to your own body. My fear is that someone careless using tools like this might just blindly follow the suggestions and overwork themselves to an injury. Nevertheless, great tools we have available now, and the price is definitely 'right' in this case! I think the more off trail you go and the more elevation change you add to your runs the harder it gets to follow the pace suggestions, unless you can manipulate your prompts to feed back your heart rate and get it to guide you by target heart rate or use a system of RPE (rated perceived exertion).

When things are going well, you don't always suspect that something is about to go horribly wrong. Injuries can spring up out of seemingly nowhere. I followed all of my Garmin daily workout suggestions in the lead up to my first half marathon, and ended up injured a couple of weeks out. Now, I've been feeling really good on this plan lately, keeping up my strength work, taking breaks when I feel over-worked, and yet I suddenly developed a heel issue last week, and now I'm feeling like the half will be a struggle. I asked the bot about using heart rate and it said that it was indeed an option. I chose to continue using pace as the main driver, whilst using my own feelings on individual runs to guide how hard or not to push. Hope you're doing well mate.

Secondly, I see that squirrel, and I'll try and raise you in one of my future videos.... 🤣 Fairly impressed with the AI Coaching - spotted a couple of dated things that England Athletics no longer promote, but overall its got much of the base elements. If you've not done a standalone marathon then provided you finish that'll be a PB and the AI has passed the test? (Assuming the half goes to plan...🤞)

Thanks mate! I was tempted for a while, but the lack of consistent long runs put doubt in my mind. Now my heel is playing up, so I think I'll have to be a bit more realistic, at least this time around.

A lot of it seems like pretty solid, current info but it does seems to have clung onto a couple of things that are definitely out of date and not researched backed. Granted these particular things are still very commonly used in the wider running community.

I reckon you're right. Not sure I've given myself enough time on this attempt. Maybe next year I can do a dedicated marathon block and go for it.

Thanks, Neil. I had my gopro hero 10 on a chest mount for this one. I got a chest and head strap bundle from amazon, and they both do the job nicely.
I think AI is perfectly fine as long you know what you're doing yourself . I.e give the correct information for it to give a plan
