    Here in India we have 1.4 million students competing for 42000 seats through a nation wide medical entrance exam. I'm one of them this year.

      But in india, it’s just one exam to determine the acceptance. Here in the USA, we have to be extremely well rounded and do many types of activities to be a doctor.

      @@JimMilton-gp9opThe numbers are misleading as well since US MD applicants are self-selecting as the barrier to applying to medical school is much larger than in India. If you include all pre-meds in undergrad the numbers are probably similar 1.5 million pre-meds 20,000 seats

    I would like to add a 4th interview type that I have encountered a couple times this cycle: completely virtual. There are some schools that have adopted a virtual interview format without an interviewer present. You are granted access to a portal where questions will show up on the screen and your response is recorded. Not my favorite interview style, but you do get to do it on your own time.

    • @RedRaiderLobo20
      @RedRaiderLobo20 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wait. What? How is that even acceptable? I hope you’re not going to that school.
      I interviewed in person for both med school and residency. Now doing virtual fellowship interviews, I definitely feel something is lost. But nothing that audacious.

    It's fascinating to see the US system! 😊 Many similarities compared to UK - importance of an engaging personal statement, entrance exam, and finally the interview (panel or MMI) where you have to display your passion and research into the profession. In the UK, we have a unified system (UCAS) for university applications. But wherever you are, preparation is key - every step is important!! Good luck to all 🙌😊💯

Some of the best pieces of advice given to me were to learn early that the best ways to make it as a pre-med is to find a good group of friends and work together to help each other get there. The second one is to find your “brand” so whether you love music, videography, fishing, etc. that is what makes you, you and you can use that direction to build a framework for your resume. For example, one of my best friends was an avid skiier, joined ski patrol, and also researched rotational stress on the knee joints of skiiers. Schools love stuff like that and it is fun for you too because you can chase your passion. Again, I’m super excited for you and have fun!

    Hey Med School Insiders... do you guys think you can have a video for students that want to get into med school but has close to zero academic experience, just barely graduated high school and chased a different career path? I personally went back to Korea to do my army service for 2 years, came back and i still didn't know what i wanted to do. So I'd been working odd jobs until the pandemic hit and a lot of things happened in my life, and I decided i'm going to be a doctor. Not that i "want to" or i "need to", i'm going to. I know it's gonna be hard especially since I had barely studied back in high school and it's been 7 years since then, but i'm determined to take the first step and not give up. Please help!

    If I get rejected, can I ask the admissions team for the reason? When I was applying to college as a high school senior, I was initially rejected from a university I really wanted to attend. A friend suggested reaching out to the admissions office to ask for feedback. Thanks to that advice, I was able to identify the shortcomings in my application and address them before the next deadline. With the help of my friend and the admissions counselor, I reapplied and was accepted for the fall semester just a few months later.
    Now, with medical school being so competitive, I don’t expect the same level of flexibility as I experienced in undergrad. However, would it still be possible to request feedback on my application? And could doing so help me stand out positively, potentially improving my chances for the next application cycle?
