Great interview with one of my idols from the Sarm Days. I really loved Steves's work on Simple Minds Real Life Album. That album got me through some dark times. Thank you.
@@RecordProduction You are very welcome:)) Keep up the great work and say hello to Mike Banks for me. Please, could you interview Julian Mendelsohn in the future? Here is a link that Simple Minds album Steve Produced for everyone. th-cam.com/video/MmKTMAak710/w-d-xo.html
I love the part "How did you start making money" at around 4 minutes. This famous spark that is a life changer, we all need it somehow and someday. Interesting interview, always fun to listen to stories of experienced producers. And there is always something to learn from the best. Funny what he said about TH-cam. There are amazing singers with whom I work that have word-class voices but they struggle to get a few hundred of subscribers and views. And my 13 years old son shows me the most stupidest videos ever getting sometimes millions of views and these channels have hundred of thousands or even millions of subscribers. It's tough to have benchmarks today. We almost play in a big lottery and anybody could win... or lose too, without any logical explication, any structure or without any step-by-step evolution. Greetings from your friend François in Montreal, Canada! 🎼🃏🎶🎵👏👏👌👌🙏👍😁👋
It’s always super interesting to listen to stephen Lipson’ musical take with his attention to detail. Unfortunate that in an interview with a musical master and production genius the quality of the sound is so poor, it’s just something he might cringe about also !
The main mic failed so the audio used was the backup on-board mic which was some distance away so the sound has lots of ambience. Would you rather that we remove the video?
maybe interest in music has wained because the time isn't put into it anymore? all this prefab music doesn't help. Steve...get Propaganda back together and put the time and money into one last big one. Roll the dice and see what happens. A Secret Wish is one of the best of all time in my opinion. that album hits as hard today as the day it came out.
Loved the Annie Lennox albums - so well produced
I love his work and Trevor Horns with FGTH and Grace Jones. Total class.
"You've not thought about sticking loads of foam on the walls then?"
"Yep"
"Are you gonna do it?"
"Nope"
Love it. 😂

Interesting to hear his opinion about YT back in 2007, when YT was only 2 years young! I think he must have changed his opinion by now. :)

Where is Steve now 2019?
Not seen in a while - will try and get back on RP with a new feature.
Any chance of asking him how his experience with Jars of Clay went?

@@RecordProduction of course not, understandable if you had mic issues the interview is great
That’s a big obsolete mouse with faders! Cool room
That room, along with SARM West, has been crushed and is now housing..

Itnteresting.
Bleak ... but interesting nevertheless.
That helicopter... That could destroy a good vocal take...
