Regarding that dewalt battery, Mathias Wendell made a video on his second channel just a short time ago exploring why the cells get out of balance:
the battery controller is wired to take power from only one of the pairs of cells, so even though it only sips a tiny bit of power if you don’t use the battery for a long time those cells will be unbalanced, the problem is the charge balancing only happens when the batteries are charging so if you leave it unused for a long time and then use that battery all at once there will be a massive voltage imbalance and it will overdeplete (or whatever it’s called) that pair of cells and the battery will stop working

You might know this already but when a rechargeable battery cell drops to a low voltage (say less than 2V), it can be significantly damaged by charging at the normal rate (0.5C+). If you have a DC power supply with current limiting I would recommend trickle charging the specific cell back up independently. Something like 50mA would be good. If it doesn't take charge at all and reads 0.0V it is likely that the CID popped.

Just FYI forcing a over discharged lithium battery to charge is asking for trouble. Internal cell damage occurs when the cell drops below a certain voltage which can result in rapid catastrophic failure of the battery at any time in the future without additional warning. That's why the charger didn't want to charge it.
Also important to realize that the cells that were over discharged were almost certainly over discharged for a reason. Usually this happens when a cell is going bad. This is another reason to not force discharged cells to charge..

2:49 Matthias Wandel (WoodGears ca) recently did a video on battery pack repair and why they die like this, on his second channel "Matthias random stuff".
The main cause is that, while these packs do balance themselves, they only do so _while charging._ And while in use, the middle pair usually gets drained the most, being the halfway point between the overall battery pack cathode and anode.
So if you use them regularly for a little bit, but rarely put it back on the charger "because it still has plenty of juice" (guilty here), then the battery will slowly unbalance. At some point, and especially if you then use it on a high demand tool, it will drain that middle pair flat, below the charger's / battery management system's "safe to charge" threshold, and it will refuse to charge.
And so the preventive solution is:
    1. For regular light use (e.g. drill a couple of holes in wood, drive 20 screws, etc), just charge the battery more often than you might think is necessary.
    2. For heavy use (e.g. heat gun, grinder, sawsall, circular saw, drilling hard materials, drilling/screwing all day long, etc), make sure to charge it up both *BEFORE* and after use.
(The before charge is _especially_ important if the battery has been sitting idle for a long time)

I see some scanning markers and developer spray. A tip I took from the Tesla metrology team is to put the scanning markers on some painters tape so they can be used across multiple projects since those markers are very expensive

You can change a different firmware in those chargers ( if u have the tools) to remove the undervoltage locks and a get a few other features
Not that i recommend you do that, but comes in handy sometimes

    EZouts can be easy!
Use 3/8 square to tap square (tapered, ez-outs are also this way) sockets from Snap On, an impact driver, and heat.

Btw a way to revive dead batterys with one of thoes chargers is to put it in NIMH or NICD mode there's not really a voltage requirement and I've revived stuff doing that trick

"Hammering loads into threads" is my new euphemism. Thanks for that.

  • @salamander5703

Looks like there may have been a fatigue crack in the damper top mount starting from where the bolt thread emerges into the radius with the flange - the lighter coloured arc visible at 4:07. May also be just where it has rubbed after breaking, but worth a second look and at the one on the other side. Maybe the cast part is flexing under load because of the chunk cut out to go around the hydraulic connection at the top of the damper. Your reinforcing plate which you didn't fit might help support things here!

The Dewalt Battery’s are 18V and marked as such in Europe. The same batteries in USA are marketed as 20V, but guess what, they are the same inside so no surprises you found 18V. Both are interchangeable, electrically and the connection slot.
The silver lining for USA customers are that the Dewalt batteries are cheaper than here in Europe.

If your battery is misbehaving, recharging a cell that's under 1V is only a temporary fix, it will die soon.
But the good news is you can get a cheap spot welder, and get some good cells for a lot less than the new battery ( it seems this one is 5s 2p, so at 4 bucks a cell you'll be down 40 instead of 90)
You may not actually need the spot welder if you get pre-tabbed batteries.

oh you unveilled the scanner... yes its awesome, you will love it, but it needs a beefy pc, no chance with an old laptop, but the scans it produces are highly dimensionally accurate and the software works really nicely too!
