I always appreciate your videos Dan. I flew Cathay Pacific economy JFK-Hong Kong-Perth in 2016, on 777s the whole route, and I can honestly say that it was one of my best flying experiences. We used the over-the-north-pole routing on the inbound flight, which was so cool, got to see the northern lights. I agree with you that Hong Kong airport is one of the easiest to use - I intentionally scheduled a 12 hour layover to be able to get out and explore and I think I spent all of five minutes clearing customs and making it to the train, so I felt like I really maximized time during my bonus mini-vacation in HK. I also really appreciated on their longer flights that they encouraged passengers to come to the galley and ask for snacks (or even noodles) at any time, and had the mid-deck galley set up so that you could get drinks (tea, wine, soft drinks) pretty much the entire flight. I was also amazed that the Flight staff immediately befriended a couple seated near me with a toddler, and went out of their way to help that family have a good 15 hour flight. It was such a high level of service. If I return to Perth, I may be tempted to try the routes through Doha or UAE, but Cathay really made the trip comfortable. (noodle emoji - instacrew)
Just flew Cathay Melbourne to Hong Kong and on a350 and wow! One of best economy classes I've flown. Plenty of leg room, comfy, decent IFE, food was good. Very good product on an amazing aircraft.

Glad to hear someone actually had a few positive experiences with Cathay Pacific, always heard they were a Great Airline .... our experience was nothing but negative, service lousy, food lousy (unless you like rice porridge ...twice), audio on both 15 hours flights in our row of seats did not work at all! Every flight (4 for 4) was 1-2 hours late! But did not miss connection as the departing flights were also two hours late leaving Hong Kong (Both ways). Only one positive thing I can say; they did NOT Lose My Luggage and we did not crash! Never Again will my wife and I fly Cathay Pacific.

Love CX, Just booked 2 economy tickets for friends from SFO to BKK via HKG on CX end of November. For sure they will enjoy the new A350. Btw. Thanks for showing the seat details. Looks like comfort in even standard economy. My JAL + MAS (YVR-NRT-KUL) flights are no-gos due to MAS connecting flight being cancelled. So, maybe being offered CPA for both flights as a replacement is an upgrade for the USD650 return fare. My only hesitation is the looong trans-Pacific flight versus 3 hours less via NRT plus the loooooong overnight stay at HKG (without no transit room to sleep in).
I did 30 hours of round trip flying with Cathay to Southeast Asia last month and I can’t say enough great things about the flight staff. True professionals and absolutely amazing at what they do.
Imre Csoka I’m not Chinese. Far from it. And the Cathay staff was absolutely wonderful to me. In fact, Hong Kong airport overall was a great experience and all the staff there treated me professionalism and kindness as well.

Brian hacks4u if you’re doing a long international flight you should get meals already included. I flew from Chicago to Hong Kong to Bangkok on an economy ticket and they provided meals and you should have tv and movies at your seat. 15 hr flight I believe they served three meals plus whatever drinks you want and it was included.

You missed the best feature of the headrest - the wings fold outwards to create a hammock "net" for your head! Unfortunately this isn't one of the better seats in the system...
It'll be interesting for me to try Cathay for the first time soon. Flying in their business and premium economy cabins from Dublin to Hong Kong (biz) and then from Hong Kong to Singapore via Bangkok (premium economy bulkhead on the same route you took just in reverse). Flying in the A350 on the long haul leg then an A330 for the intra-Asian leg. For 42,500 Alaska miles and 7,500 British Airways Avios respectively, I'd definitely say that I think I'll get my money's worth for these two redemptions
I don’t understand why they don’t give you a full meal like this on their flights from Manila to Hong Kong, you just get some warm pastry with a cookie and water(was juice a year ago). But on this flight from Singapore to Bangkok you get a full meal. The MNL-HK flight is longer also if I’m not mistaken.

I tried and they said I had an economy seat so I had to wait until 24 hours before the flight when check-in opens. I waited and went online as soon as I could. Many of the seats were already taken when I checked in but I was able to get an asile seat. The experience was pretty good. Decent legroom, good service, great IFE, and early arrival. Overall happy :)
UPDATE TO COMMENT - since I will be making this trip 3 more times I decided to join their Marco Polo Club to get early boarding. After joining the club, when I went to look at seats (way in advance), I was offered the opportunity to purchase extra legroom seats and some forward economy seats. I'm guessing that was offered because of the Marco Polo Club membership status? Anyway, I bought the extra legroom seat and was very pleased - and then lucked out because the seat next to me was empty! So, if you are flying Cathay a lot I think paying the $99/year for the Marco Polo Club might get you early access to better economy seats. Also, if you have an economy ticket and are in the Marco Polo Club, you are allowed to board with the Premium Economy passengers - and the economy cabin is mostly empty for you to store your bags and get comfortable. I recommend it if you fly Cathay a lot.

hey Nonstop Dan, would you perhaps know how i could travel with DJ equipment on Cathay using carry on luggage. Both the item i have are just below 7KG. Would it be fine? i don't trust the under carriage cargo with the poor baggage handling incidents that have happened. Its few of a million, but still , just cant be to sure sometimes.
Hey Dan, For economy fliers, we look for seat pitch stats on flights. If you look at Google Flights, you tend to see the distance between seats (in cm) and a statement of average, above, or below legroom with the flight. If you can look up the figures before you fly, it can also help people gauge what they're in for as airlines inevitably try to pack tighter and tighter. If an airline posts a 79cm distance, but the reality is they get those 2-3cm above the standard 76 by using a more pronounced seat curvature without actually giving you leg room, then it helps taller or long-legged people avoid an even worse experience. My case in point is Air Canada's 787-8 from Brisbane to Vancouver is relatively comfy with a posted 79cm in seat distance, the 787-9 from Vancouver to Newark is actually murder at 76cm seat distance. 3cm makes a lot of difference in a 4-hour flight, let alone a 10 to 14-hour one. Also, will you try the Singapore to Newark 19-hour flight? I know it's pricey, but as an NJ resident, I kinda wanna try it.
