Scot / Land - Scottish Land Use From Above

  • Over time my understanding of the Scottish landscape has changed. Where I once saw wilderness I now see a land marked by human activity; vegetation depleted by grazing, moors drained, swathes of plantations which support little biodiversity and every year wind farms and hydro schemes encroach on designated wild land while vehicle tracks push deeper into the hills, seemingly unchecked by regulation.
But things are changing. Our understanding of the importance of biodiversity is increasing; regeneration, reintroduction and rewilding projects are gaining support and there is an appetite to re-examine how we use the landscape.

This is my second film about the Scottish landscape using aerial footage shot over the last 5 years. It shifts perspective to look straight down, focusing on what's below to reveal otherwise unseen forms, textures and colours.
