As a boy my parents and kids would take a walk around our property. Located near a little stream was one carolina allspice. My parents called it "sweet scrub". In the summer it always smelled so sweet. I never thought much about it until now. I"m 74 and just recently became interested in gardening. Now I want to plant one in my yard for sentimetal reasons.
Great information! Here in California we have Calycanthus occidentalis, which is quite similar. Not sure about the fragrance, although I've seen it on the western side of the Sierra Nevada range.
Also know as sweet bubby bush! Came from Mountain ladies. From what remember they would crush them and used as perfume tucked into Bosom and bubby stands in for booby i think 🤔 Good story anyway.
The best most complete explanation of a plant I’ve found on TH-cam
Thank you for the beautiful presentation. I have 7 very young ones in preparing to plant in my garden at my "new to me" house. Well done!

That plant does not look very healthy. Have your soil tested.
Lol. That's their look. They are very cool almost like Seymour.
