This Torah portion Re’eh speaks of the need to care for the Levites. Deut 14:27 “And you shall not neglect the Levite who is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.”
This desire to care for those ministering to the Lord was something very important to Nehemiah. In the latter part of the book of Nehemiah, he rebukes the people for not giving portions to the Levites.
