Half of the technology the U.S has, is from the ones stolen from russia. Like the mi25 hind, the kinzhal missile captured from Ukraine(Lockheed Martin just revealed America's first ever hypersonic missile right after the missile's capture!), the mig25, this one(radar),the mig21, and maybe s400 system if they can capture one in Ukraine in the future😂

it is irrelevant how good it is. it feeds information in other military systems (good or bad information, but it does make S300/S400 systems lock on target at least in training scenarios).
studying it offers insights in possible blind angles it has and vulnerabilities and whatnot. so it's not only about using it to make better radars, it's also learning the weak points and exploiting them

It can't decipher targets from clutter due to poor filtering software and overheats in hot weather.

'CYA' has a very special effect on retreating soldiers who don't care if Putin is happy or not. No doubt, the CIA and Israeli intelligence had their eyes on this asset for some time and made arrangements for a quick pick-up. Once the rebels are bribed and it's in secure hands, the autopsy will be fast and thorough. The report most likely will reveal a design that is 95% hyperbole and boloney and 5% interesting. As we have learned over the past two years, Russian innovation and breakthroughs are usually overstated, further undermining their arms marketing efforts vis-a-vis western products.

@@Bakes-z4c Yes, a lot can be learned by autopsy, including the degree of stolen technology and maybe areas of security exposure. Let me be blunt, since WW2 the USSR-Russia and mainland China has invested as little as possible on military and industrial R&D. Why? Innovation requires creative thinking and design freedom that costs money and risks possible failures in production. It is easier and cheaper to steal designs and reverse engineer the technological advances. That said, there is a reason why T-14 tanks and SU-57 jets are not in full production. It is one thing to produce a few hand-built units in boutique shops where foreign components can be hidden and new tech, non-functioning accessories can decorate an exterior and never be operated at public events, like parades and air shows.

It's much like bullet proof vests. Obviously they work and can be tested but in real warfare.
You combine multiple attacks, layering multiple types of attacks, or landing strikes that the vest doesn't cover, you still have modern militaries with body armor still suffer casualties.
Definitely though if this were to end up in western hands there would be a lot of analysis on what precisely It's capable of, not just what propoganda says.
Also could determine flaws, hiccups, or just conditions that impair it from full capacity all which could be leveraged so an attacking force could have higher success rates.

One vehicle the small fire department I was on had was a 1953 (?) GMC army surplus 2-1/2 ton truck. We had a 1,000 gallon tank on it. We used it for brush fires. Decades later I suppose they’d say WUI fire. The last several pages of the original Army operations manual for truck had several ways to destroy it in face of imminent capture by enemy troops. This for as boring and generic a vehicle as the Army would have owned in the ‘50’s. Not a vehicle full of fancy electronics. It wouldn’t even have had a radio until the FD put one in. Yes, we had a tube based VHF. About a mile down the road it would make a squelch when the tubes were hot and you could use it.
I would not have stood next to that radar/control unit. The U.S. during the civil war in Cyprus retreated away from a radio listening post with monster antennae next to it. Aircraft from the Seventh Fleet bombed it and anyone inside. After they went back and permanently installed explosives in the listening posts in Thailand and Iran. So when the Shah skipped town in Iran it was easy to destroy on the way out.
I’d be afraid of a bomb coming out of the sky to destroy that rig. Or is Putin losing control of his military.

Due to their usage in complement to the Grave Stone/Tomb Stone/Flap Lid tracking radars and the Big Bird family of surveillance/search radars coupled to the S-300P and S-400 SAM systems, i guess that the Podlet radar is also complimentary (if not supersede) the Clam Shell low-level search radar.

I doubt though, that they'll be able to stop the US and Israel from dividing the spoils (oil) and smuggling them into Turkey for processing, to be placed on the market. This is an illicit activity which has been strong priority for US, Israel, Kurds and Turkey, taking precedence over anything like restoring civil society in Syria. The two aims are incompatible.

Or is is that they have such bad command and troops that they are just on a wing and a prayer most of the time? This unfolded like in hours maybe just a few days and... boom.. collapse?

After its inspection for any intelligence use . Nothing like what was left sadly in Afghanistan in joes 20 year disaster departure .
