I've had my 07 XK Coupe for 12 years (134k miles) and it's the best car I've ever owned. There is a lot of life left in your XK! I've also got a new to me 2006 XJ8L with 202k miles on it and it is actually in pretty decent shape too. My experience with Jaguars has been great, I'll always have one.
I have previously commented on each of your De Tomaso Pantera videos as a Pantera owner, but now I am commenting as a long, long time X150 owner. I bought my X150 XKR over 10 years ago, and yesterday it passed the 207,500 mile mark. It has unquestionably been the best automobile I've ever owned for many reasons in 55 years of driving. Besides being ridiculously powerful (pulleyed and tuned to about 600hp), it's been utterly reliable in its long tenure in my garage. It is still my daily driver, and still even with that mileage, a pleasure to both drive and look at. It's what caused me to make my Pantera a drivable car after 18 years of ownership. It was quicker, tighter, more luxurious, obviously more comfortable, and the XKR's greatness forced me to not settle for less in my Pantera as I was going to get rid of it. As I also own an X100 XKR, I can affirm your statement that the X150 was a giant leap ahead from the ancient X100 platform. The only thing it has in common with the X100 is that they are both Jaguars and have an XK in their name. Nothing else is comparable. My XKR will live with me for as long as I can still drive an automobile, it's that good. Although I have a 5.0L car, there are many that actually prefer the 4.2L motor for various reasons. I think you will enjoy this car a lot. I have tracked my XKR many dozens of times over the years, and it just keeps on giving me great service. I hope you have the same experience.
@@Number27 You should have stopped in southern California. Yesterday at the Best of France and Italy we had about 10 Panteras. Great show. Best of luck with both of your new cars.

Hi Jack, I am new to your channel and binge-watched a number of your videos this weekend. After watching your video on the previous gen XKR, I was hoping you would try the more modern X150. Lo and behold, today I see you’ve gone and bought one! I’m blown away. Congrats! I have been on a similar journey with mine. I bought my XK about 2 years ago from a medical doctor. Doctors care about people and not about cars. So mine needed plenty of TLC. In fact, I dropped my car off at a panelbeater this morning to have the bonnet and front bumper resprayed. My car comes from a part of the country where the roads are particularly bad. So I too have some nasty stone chips that have been bugging me for some time. Apart from the battery and aircon, my issues have been mainly cosmetic. Cuts in the seats, worn bolsters, sagging roof lining, scratches, dents, stone chips, all 4 rims were buckled and one was even cracked. I also only got one key with the car. You don’t want to know what Jaguar charges for a replacement. Anyway, I’ve managed to resolve all those issues. Your XK looks stunning in black… That would have been my first choice.
Good choice! I would have looked for a XKR instead (basically because I am driving an XJR) but these engines are bulletproof. My car just completed 300.000 km (186.000 mls) without any issue. The XK looks stunning and will be a very good daily driver. So congratulations again.
@@EdgyNumber1Yes. The early ones with plastic chain tensioners and Nikasil cylinder liners had issues. However, my 1998 XJ had these and I had it for twenty one years, daily driver for many years. Still going strong when I traded it in for a 2019 fPace SVR. Reveals the bumps more on rough roads, which is when I miss the XJ, but awesome acceleration, great roadholding and nice interior, I love it. Also, sometimes exceeds 30mpg on a long run, the XJ never did better than 27.
@@jamescameron314 yes, certainly not a station wagon but most of the time you´re driving alone or at least I do, and the space in the coupe is more than enough. Yes the ride comfort is better with the sedan (my XJ Super V8 has an air suspension).
I’ve had one for about three years now and I love it! 😍 Mine has the more traditional Jag interior, with beige leather and wood trim - I didn’t want it any other way! Fully agree with your comments in this review. The peak power figure doesn’t seem like much but this engine is all about torque: 411 Nm is quite a healthy number! So once it goes, you feel like a big hand pushing you... 🙂 Oh and last but not least, it’s just an amazingly beautiful and classy car... 😎
Choose wisely, like for any other car, but go for it! It's also great as a daily driver (my case), except maybe for parking (depends on where you live). Comfortable, big boot...what's not to like? 😉
This is one of the 'modern' Jaguars that look quite nice in my opinion. I think you did well and I wouldn't worry to much about the mileage. It will be good to see and hear your plans Jack take care. 👍👍
Lovely choice! Damn handsome car, it's a Jag, and that V8 is wonderful. Best of luck with it. Certainly a great way of bringing interest to the channel, without breaking the bank...hopefully :)
Look forward to seeing how you get on with it. I bought my 2007 XK 6 years ago and I still have it as my daily driver. It's been reliable, comfortable and the perfect long distance cruiser. I still love driving it and especially that engine sound!
As a previous owner of exactly same model, colour and wheels I like your choice. I really enjoyed my time with it. Only reason for selling is as I’m 6’6” with all my tallness in the legs, I found it slightly frugal in the legroom department. However if I took the driver’s floor mat out I could just about make it bearable.
I bought a beautiful Jaguar XK 5 litre V8 18 months ago. It was fast, sleek and very pretty, but it was not comfortable because when I moved the driver's seat back sufficiently it rubbed against a post and made a ghastly noise---and this despite the fact I am not particularly large at 6 feet with short legs ! It is also cramped in general and is NOT "luxurious" at all. I LOST "£6,500 when I finally got rid of it but the replacement is heavenly----a Jaguar XJ 3 lire diesel that is fast, quiet and so comfortable as to be simply wonderful. In addition, it is gorgeous to look at in silver with cream leather, wood rim steering wheel and clear windows without the "obligatory" modern blacked out rear windows. Sheer heaven !!
SO good to hear someone else who hates those "blacked out" rear windows. What's wrong with people? That, and the extraordinary preponderance of black leather (vs the much more lovely cream or tan alternative). Who wants to live in a black cave inside their car?? Not me.

I have an 08 XJ Sport and it's the hated diesel. It's been great for the year I've had it. Insane value for what you're driving, even quite pokey. Settles down above the speed limit nicely. I'll have another Jag in the future after this experience.
These are actually very capable and comfortable cars. You get a lot of car for your money. Supercharged versions go better but their complexities can bring them unstuck. They run a coolant hose under the inlet manifold. Make sure this is sound. A decent take on this vehicle, thank you for posting. Their steering no lighter nor heavier than most cars of the time.
Congratulations on your choice of car! 😀 I really wanted one of these myself but had to realise that I just don't fit comfortably behind the wheel of an X150 XK. I ended up buying a X100 XK8 from the Final Edition. A lovely car with a laid back kind of personality. A true continent munching cruiser. And I fit perfectly fine. 😊 I just recently added a 2017 V6 F-Type to my collection and I am totally and utterly in love with it. Enjoy your XK Jack and be assured of owning one of most gorgeous cars ever designed!
I think it's worth getting a pair of matched Dunlops (or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, they are pretty similar to the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT 1 & RT 2 which were also designed by Goodyear) on the front! Having mismatched tyres between the axles and especially across the front axle cannot be good. If you have front and rear tyres with different sidewall stiffness, it can result in some very strange handling effects.
I miss my 2011 XK so badly, one of the two favorite cars I've ever owned. The other was a 2005 XJ, the most luxurious interior I've seen. The XK's interior wasn't as impressive, but wow what a rocket with the paddle shift. And the hips on that baby ... ow!
Great review. However just to correct you on a couple of things. The BHP is 300. The old 4.0 in the X100 was 290bhp. There was two leather options. The luxury leather had soft perforated 16 way seats but all models had a full leather dash
That’s better than a dull Rover, far more interesting. The only issue with these is the car tax is something like £675 or £695 every year which is just ridiculous.
Nice purchase. One comment - I think you will find that the wheels are not really split rims, but "fake" split rims. The screws are purely cosmetic to make the wheels look like splits. There's an F-type wheel option which is similar.
Yes they are 20” Senta wheels and not split rim BBS - many would say that’s a good thing - they look great and are much easier to live with than the split rims. If you do fancy the real BBS wheels be aware that the older X100 has an imperial wheel nut spacing whilst X150 went metric
I was looking at these a few years ago, never did pull the trigger. But I now have a 2016 F-Type 3.0 S coupe, manual transmission. I bought it with 29,000 miles on it, paid a lot more than you did, but I like it. Mine is triple black, has the optional leather interior, big front brakes etc. It was a giant leap of faith for me, I'd never so much as seen one in the flesh, much less driven one, I found it online 2,000 miles from my home and had it shipped to my door. It didn't disappoint.
Good man Jack. Welcome to the 'club'. Excellent choice and I'm sure you'll love the Jag. The XK is plenty fast enough even without the supercharger. Enjoy!
A beautiful "Aston" like car in looks and sound. It appears to have been a good buy too. Nice to see a knowledgeable enthusiast taking a calculated risk and bucking the trend to buy a so called gas guzzler. Enjoy it while you can.
I picked up a 5.0 XKR convertible a couple of months ago from BCA, sight unseen. £9,100 of win. Changed the water pump and belts, put 3000 miles on it so far, it's fab.
I love a Jag jack! Especially in black ..... cool car 😎. I once bought a MK4 golf TDI in very similar circumstances with high mileage 165k miles, drove it for a year without an issue! I'll be honest I wouldn't be brave enough to buy the Jag that way tho 😂🙏
Hi Jack the boot problem is an easy low cost fix....drill a hole in the wheel well"...hope that helps. Great video and good luck not losing any money on the resale.
I have a 2007 XKR in black. I totally love it. Yes it's an expensive beast to run but you only live once! Love the V8 roar and the supercharger whine when I unleash her. Enjoy your XK mate.
Hasn't the X150 XK aged so well? I saw my first ever X150 XK 4.2 in the wild a few months ago (Jag XK is an oddity here in Indonesia), and it's just so svelte and oozes class. Something that Jag might gonna lose once the F-Type is gone.
Fantastic car. IMO, the 4.2 NA is the one to have. The engine had been in production since 1996, so all of the issues had been ironed out by then. It's easier and cheaper to service and run than the SC and has a better engine/exhaust sound, presuming that no one likes the supercharger whine sound (I hate it).
I reckon a fesh set of shock absorbers will make a massive difference in ride quality. I've driven a new one back in the day on 19s and it qas marvellously smooth. Granted, it was a convertible so perhaps the spring rate was different from the coupe.
5 litre V8 mark 1 XF owner here, and I blooming love it. Yes, the MPG is poor but its a V8 and I don't do mega miles. Was determined to own a V8 before they become things of the past...
The drain issue was there with my XJS. Air con overflow pipe if blocked leaks into passenger foot well. If you checked under that carpet and it was ok you new you had a good one. Apart from the Unipart wiring of course
Great car and value. Love an old Jag. My favourite was an XJR I did over 150k miles in. Change the gearbox fluid if it's not been done already. New bushes and decent tyres transform them
Bought a 2012 xkr 60k miles a couple of years ago, its a fabulous beast of a thing.. first auto car ive had, paddles are ok, but it would be perfect with manual box...
I have a 5.0l which I've owned for eight years now. You must keep them on a trickle charger if you don't drive them often. They flatten the battery in a couple of weeks and if the charge gets low all the sensors go haywire. I've had to replace a few of the sensors - they tend to go wrong every now and then. The timing chain tensioner failed at 20,000 miles and was replaced by Jaguar with an engine rebuild under warranty. The other thing to say is check the subframes. These are poorly corrosion protected and are mild steel. They rust and I have heard of cars being written off as a result. You can't buy new ones. I had them dropped, blasted and painted with corrosion protection. It was expensive but worth it. It's a beautiful car. The extra power of the 5.0l is very apparent. The later rotary dial gearbox is superb. I've flirted with the idea of selling it a few times but then I drive it and love it again. I don't know what else could give you the power, speed, comfort and beauty for the money. It is a superb car.
Strong and measured drive Dave. Big pressure on p2 and he nearly succumbed a couple of times. You are cleaner and faster than me through the final chicane onto main str8. Top of the hill where car gets light, I find its mega important that the wheels are dead straight, few heart stoppers there. See you on track. BTW the Ferrari at Brands is great.
Nice pick, I got a 2007 with 5k miles. Great car, noticed you didn't slide the shift selector into SPORT mode or have a play with the paddles. Sport mode definitely wakes the car up and gives an athletic edge to it. Enjoy!
@@sebastiend.5335I wouldn’t be jealous, you’d be dealing with so many problems from a car at this age not being driven regularly, they stay reliable when regularly driven
Had a similar issue with vents on my Volvo S80 3.2 - made the back seat wet as water trickled forwards from tne boot area. The vents had actually popped out slightly at the top so I reseated them and used sealant to hold them in position. Got to them by removing the boot lining which needed to be dried anyway.
Im not a massive Jag fan but I could definitely see myself getting one of these . Funny you mention Dad cars and a Masa though as I’m seriously looking to get a Gen 5 Quattroporte, for no other reason than the noise 😅
Since Ford owned Jag almost all the "old Jags" problems have been pretty much put to bed. Unfortunately for those who can afford to buy new they still depreciate but that is great for us poor folk looking for a bargain. Good luck with this, it's a car on my wanted list too (black & cream interior with wood). PS. The wheel size is on the tyres.
Wheels are Sentas, 20", they're not split rim, the fasteners are purely cosmetic. Looks bit low at the back, you might want to check the rear suspension lower bushes. I love my 07 XKR convertible with only 53k miles on it.
Short-term ownership notwithstanding, this is more like it! I even take back my wheel chair review comment in regard to your Rover purchase even though it was tongue-in-cheek.
These are great cars. I've bought and sold these for years and can offer the most important part of XK ownership: keep the battery topped up! There's too many modules that don't sleep and drain the battery really fast!
Got to love the Jag, maybe a video idea could be to see how many Jeremy Clarkson themed Jag things you can do, bit out of character for yourself but might be fun
Jeremy Clarkson forms an argument based on a skerrick of truth, laces it with myths and exaggerated misinformation and delivers it in a bombastic manner - he is funny though. May be challanging for Jack.
I’d be tempted to have a go with Chipex to cover the chips. It looks like a decent enough fix for taking the eye away from the chip and a lot less than a respray. Be a good bit of content to see a go on the Jag.
As a Jaguar Fan I love these and certainly value for money pretty well half the price of what could be a ropey Maserati GT. I remember though you already know what the Gransport is like.
Nice choice and a lot of car for not a lot of money. Ref leak in the boot my 2012 Audi Avant had a leak in the very same area (caused I believe when a guy bumped into the rear of my car in supermarket car park as no issues before then) and unwilling to pay £3-400) to remove bumper replace seals bought a can of clear silicone sealant and did from inside - it has done the job and not leaked at all for the last 4 months of heavy rain - not professional repair I know but car cost less than £6K and been faultless having done 23k in 3 years of ownership.
A very good detailer will be able to clean that up nicely, then add touch up paint to the stone chips on that bonnet, wet sand it back and polish up to the point you would barely notice it. A better option than paying for fresh paint on the bonnet that sticks out as it’s bound to be a different shade to the UV exposed original paint surrounding it.
I've got 2 XKR 2007 146,000 miles paid £6200 for it and a XK 150 Convertible 179000 miles both run perfect i've had 7 in total and never had any water leaks in the boot or anywhere else.
Interesting you call Maxxis ditch finders, not actually sure of their car offerings but in the mountain bike world, they are just about the biggest/best high end tyre supplier.
Once you finish ‘snagging’ the car, I’d suggest you get it detailed Jack. The cosmetic issues are all quite superficial, with the biggest being the stone chipping on the bonnet and nose cone. Probably worth costing up a ‘Chips Away’ style remedy versus a repaint (I suspect the former will be much cheaper). I bet she will scrub up well!
My P38 Range Rover suffered the same problem with water in the boot spare wheel area!!!!! I simply got out my battery drill with a 12mm bit and drilled a couple of holes in the base!!! After that the wheel well never held any water!!! Simple job!!!!😂😂😂😂 regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿😂👍
One of most beautiful cars ever. 4.2 NA in full auto mode it is not very responsive - just use paddles. The difference is significant. The downside of 4.2 NA XK was insuffcient brakes. This was however an issue only in dynamic driving in mountain twisties. In 95% situations they are OK. Is there anything chipper and better. Not to much. CLK500 accelerates, brakes and turnes better but the Jag has better engine noise and looks more classy. Anyway I am sure you will have fun. I had ;)
I do like this shape, I had an 03 XKR which I loved, but got expensive very quickly! I still turned a profit though, so if luck is on our side, you should not loose your shirt 😆
Funny enough I’ve had one for 6 weeks my dad gave me his as he’s not well. Lovely cruiser of a car comfy quiet refined and a total contrast to my other cars. If it wasn’t for the daft car tax and fuel consumption I’d keep it and daily it for a bit Mines a Standard exhaust it’s an 06 4.2 and it’s so quiet if I kept it I’d release some v8 sound and it’s not particularly quick but lovely cars all the same
I can understand your desire for an Italian car as I have always wanted a French car but I’m not that dumb so hopefully this works out better for you then the Bentley did good luck.
I'm dumb enough to have bought French cars, both C5 2 lutre diesels. Sold the first one after 260,000 miles, runninmg smoothly on the second one at 180,000. Certainly not Jasgs but still OK in their own way.

Nope...the full leather dash is only available with the portfolio trim. Standard is vinyl. But really nice one.
That’s better than a dull Rover, far more interesting. The only issue with these is the car tax is something like £675 or £695 every year which is just ridiculous.
It will be fun to follow! That to my old 420 G~
The good thing with the 420G is that it rides so smooth! Not pretty but hey it is a great car! I put some Kleber tires on it and that was the thing.
That is seriously good looking car. Probably you get used to in on the UK roads but rarely seen elsewhere.
Great stuff, Jack - taking buying risks so that we don't have to.....
Nice find Jack! Quite elegant in that color. I look forward to seeing how it progresses!
Matt from High Peak Autos always mentions a gearbox service. Has the Jaaag had one?
He also always mentions over spending. :) But yes, a transmission service is quite important!
ZF recommends around 60,000 miles.
Nice buy Jack 👍 exactly the trade I did 4 years ago, out with a GT and into an XK 5.0 still have the XK and it never disappoints
Yep I think this is more my kind of car..
Will be interesting to follow!
The exterior still turns heads, but the interior is a bit disappointing IMHO (a lot of black-greyish surfaces)
6.48 u leant into boot like the dentist leant into my face when he's pulling out teeth... which was a bit scary!!😢
Jack, where's the pajamas? It's your thing when buying a new (to you) car. This series should be really interesting. Excited for it!
Thank you for this video! New Jaguars have the luxury, performance and creativity that their older cars aspired to.
Hasn't the X150 XK aged so well? I saw my first ever X150 XK 4.2 in the wild a few months ago (Jag XK is an oddity here in Indonesia), and it's just so svelte and oozes class. Something that Jag might gonna lose once the F-Type is gone.
Always liked this and the R was on my shortlist back in 2010. 13 years later, still cool. Aging well.
Jack, excellent as always! like the budget vs run time, will it work - great challenge and look forward to how this one goes! 🙂
5 litre V8 mark 1 XF owner here, and I blooming love it. Yes, the MPG is poor but its a V8 and I don't do mega miles. Was determined to own a V8 before they become things of the past...
I keep waiting for the Car vertical ad. LOL. Feels odd to watch a car vid and not see one. LOL. Lovely motor. If i still drove i would consider one.
The drain issue was there with my XJS. Air con overflow pipe if blocked leaks into passenger foot well. If you checked under that carpet and it was ok you new you had a good one. Apart from the Unipart wiring of course
Great buy. My son had one recently, an XKR, and I was very impressed. Tiny inside but good to drive and pretty good on fuel.
The plastic "thing" on the dashboard is naugahyde from the Naugabeast, a renewable animal that comes in many colours.
Or it might be PU from Benecke Kalico in Hanover?
I have the same car 2007 model with 133000 on the clock I’ve had it a good few years now and love it no major faults it really is a pleasure to drive
Pity Jaguar has not made an XK replacement. Nice example you have got there.
I thought the F-Type is the replacement? 🤔
It’s a fine car but it’s too small. I always loved that final version of the XK much more a GT.
A nice comfortable cruiser that should not give you too much headaches hopefully. Styling and the V8 are an added bonus
My buddy’s XK has been bullet-proof. 120k miles and going steady with no surprises!
Great car and value. Love an old Jag. My favourite was an XJR I did over 150k miles in. Change the gearbox fluid if it's not been done already. New bushes and decent tyres transform them
One of the best looking classics.❤
Lovely car Jack, well wear. Mind the GDPR, re the service receipts though. Looking forward already to the next video...👍
It's a beautiful car, enjoy it as much as you can.
Cracking choice i look forward to seeing your escapades with the Jag
Enjoy!
5,000 miles??? I thought mine was low at 40,000 miles.
5k miles is amazing! Little bit jealous haha
Funny you mention Dad cars and a Masa though as I’m seriously looking to get a Gen 5 Quattroporte, for no other reason than the noise 😅
that's valid enough!
If you want noise, look at (and listen to) an F-Type! Pre-MY19 when they fitted a GPF to the exhaust, of course.
Great find. Absolutely stunning cars. The cheapest I could find here in Germany was 17K Euro with similar miles...
Very nice jack. I bet you keep this long. term!!!! After all it's a jag!!!!!
I've always liked the look of the XK - looks like you found a pretty good one!
These are great cars. I've bought and sold these for years and can offer the most important part of XK ownership: keep the battery topped up! There's too many modules that don't sleep and drain the battery really fast!
Very true based on my own six years of ownership, these won’t suffer a poor battery and need to be on trickle charge if SORN for any period.
Nice Jack! I have a 2012 XK 5.0 and love it. Being a Jag it will have its quirks, but it's a solid platform. Good luck.
I have to say, that looks very nice, especially for the dough! Would love to see some more films on how you tackle the various issues.
Very smart, and for a few months’ fun, a much better bet than a modern misery box on finance. Interior is immaculate!
Interesting you call Maxxis ditch finders, not actually sure of their car offerings but in the mountain bike world, they are just about the biggest/best high end tyre supplier.
Love your new Car. I am Looking to buy a similar XK at some point…
Been wanting to check out these rear seats for a while 🙌 can’t wait
Great video looking forward to watching more updates on the Xk 👍🏻
Once you finish ‘snagging’ the car, I’d suggest you get it detailed Jack. The cosmetic issues are all quite superficial, with the biggest being the stone chipping on the bonnet and nose cone. Probably worth costing up a ‘Chips Away’ style remedy versus a repaint (I suspect the former will be much cheaper). I bet she will scrub up well!
A lot of fun. I think the nose cone is a slightly different colour (inwill now slink away)
Love a jaaaaaaag. Bargain!
I am definitely a fan of the previous version, especially the interior looked way better! Anyway nice car, especially at the price you bought it!
Have fun. I liked the look of the previous generation.
Hello Jack, it will be fun to follow your exploits with beautiful car. I would love to have one. Enjoy
Funny enough I’ve had one for 6 weeks my dad gave me his as he’s not well.
Lovely cruiser of a car comfy quiet refined and a total contrast to my other cars. If it wasn’t for the daft car tax and fuel consumption I’d keep it and daily it for a bit
Mines a Standard exhaust it’s an 06 4.2 and it’s so quiet if I kept it I’d release some v8 sound and it’s not particularly quick but lovely cars all the same
I can understand your desire for an Italian car as I have always wanted a French car but I’m not that dumb so hopefully this works out better for you then the Bentley did good luck.
I'm dumb enough to have bought French cars, both C5 2 lutre diesels. Sold the first one after 260,000 miles, runninmg smoothly on the second one at 180,000.
Certainly not Jasgs but still OK in their own way.
beautiful car that. I've had a number of jags over the years but sadly not one of those.
I have the same colour supercharged X150 4.2 XKR - love it. Problem is I am not sure what to replace it with!!
It could only be the 5.0 XKR 😀
@@gazcolman9184 Thats what I am thinking, but struggling to justify the additional cost when already have 95% of the experience... so been thinking of a Maserati GT or F-Type R. Did look at an Audi R8, but way less practical.
@@effkay84 I replaced my 2010 XKR with a 2018 F-Type R AWD. The only thing I miss are the back "seats" which were really handy to store things. Both fabulous cars, though.
I'd be tempted to put a bunch of these silica bags in that boot space, once you've dried it out, to absorb any damp. Depends how long you're keeping it of course...if it's months that should do it.
