    What really helped me a while back was some feedback from Chris Richardson after I got pretty frustrated trying to learn the second method. He basically said, bend your knees to get lower, and make sure to lift your back leg when “hopping” up the curb. That for me was the difference between nailing it virtually every time and only getting it sometimes. I know that’s the Jump part of these instructions, but it took more specific wording to help me get thru learning it.
    For the handful of people I’ve talked to about this who were learning, I said you’re basically just riding your tire’s bounce, and all the movements you’re doing is to help keep that bounce going and keep your OneWheel moving forward, so anything that stops either of those will cause you to fail. Therefore there needs to be some kind of hop/jump to allow the OneWheel to get up the curb in the first place, unlike the popover method.
    Great guide & video Jeff & Bodhi!!! Thanks for sharing 🙏

    This is the content we neeeeeeed. Also once we’re not worried about money I’ll buy some float plates. I’m the one of four onewheelers in town and I’m the only one who uses my OW for commutes and work (going to meetings to inspecting buildings) so I get a lot of miles and I’d love to make those commutes and meetings and weekend trails a lot more fun.

    Need to start practicing this. Have the Float Plates on. Mostly worried about getting too much speed, not too little. Because in that case, Onewheel would stay to hang out with the curb and I would continue air surfing :)

    • @TheFloatLife
      @TheFloatLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe just a nice little medium speed. If you're falling over the front then it's probably too much. Hung up on the curb then it's probably too little. Find that perfect balance in the middle.

    If you have a fender, one way to recover if you stall out on a curb is to drag your rear leg forward against the fender while pushing gently down while simultaneously unweighting your lead leg. This helps to push the tire against the curb while tilting the nose up, thus activating the motor. If you time it right, you can use this technique to get over a curb even from a complete stop, with no momentum remaining at all.

    i love the added tiny onewheel demos.... i think they are an easy way to explain fundamentals and i think i may buy a tiny onewheel set to help wrap both mine and my fellow riders brains' around the curbslide setup..... i feel the first step to doing this (for me, very difficult) trick is to first understand what type of slide you are attempting and how to approach it, then the whole press the nose and line up the shoulders etc etc will follow. please correct me if i'm wrong as i am trying to learn this trick for a while now; a regular stance backside slide would require a regular riding stance approaching the curb with your front / chest side towards the curb... for a regular frontside it would be approach regular with backside to the curb.... obviously the same applies for switch. is this accurate? it may sound dumb but i have been trying to tackle the fundamentals of this for a while, and i use my snowboard knowledge to help me understand the onewheel but i have only been riding the snowboard for about 5 years now ( i shred tho, double black tree runs in aspen what what ).

    second, does pressure of the tire matter when doing tricks??

    • @TheFloatLife
      @TheFloatLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Somewhat! A low PSI tire will create more grip and resistance when landing and a high PSI tire will make slides and spins easier. The trick is to find the perfect balance between soft and hard to get the benefits of both.

    Also, just curious as to whether curb nudges were a part of the reasoning for your design of the extra rad tire? Seems like the extra half an inch and the additional stability of the tire would be perfect for curb nudges! Can’t wait to get one of these.

    • @TheFloatLife
      @TheFloatLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @michaelmcadams9991
      @michaelmcadams9991 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Float Life one other question, how do you know when a nudge is appropriate vs a bonk? I tried a nudge for a 3 inch lip transitioning from sidewalk a concrete bridge over a creek and tried a nudge and front pad just stopped and wheel spun. I assume because it wasn’t high enough for the tire to get a grip. I was just wondering what your general threshold is in deciding how to get over something. Also, should you do anything differently if you have fangs on the front?

    Thanks for the video just what I was looking for. Most of the technique I’ve been playing with comes from wrens video that corridor crew posted. He’s all about the skid stop into the curb first. Your technique doesn’t really include that, just getting the nose up. Do you think one is easier than the other?
    Second question is what baffles in my practice is how to hammer down the nose to get it to rock while also keeping all my weight on the tail. That’s a level of coordination I’m sucking on at the moment.
    Thanks!

    • @TheFloatLife
      @TheFloatLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you need to get the tail dragging if and only if you're climbing a really high curb. The problem with skidding into smaller and medium sized curbs is it throws your weight too far back and loses momentum which is important to get up.

    I’m having an issue and I need assistance. After a solid hour of working on the curb nudge I started to get it somewhat consistently but now my board is making a noise it never made before specifically when crossing over something that causes it to bonk slightly. The noise is usually just a single knock coming from the wheel. Is it possible that I knocked something loose with all the failed attempts to curb nudge most of which were just crashing the tire into the curb.

    • @TheFloatLife

      Hahahaha all good my dude! FF will actually make these tricks easier! Only problem though is you can become dependent on bad technique and get lazy so if you ever ride without FF then you'll have to break a bad habit and re-learn them which is harder than learning correct in the first place.
