Baba... chills.. I was always outside and in the Garden growing up! I was just turned 7 when my Dad gave me my own plot! And it produces ass loads! We canned over 100 jars of vegetables! Tomatoes, beans, squash, strawberries, herbs, corn, okra, I mean like tons! And my Mom asked me what I did, I told her I talked to them. I've always heard the plants. Animals too. What yall said about our Words , it RANG like a bell in my ears. Ashe, ashe, ashe.

A Bruja told me- when I was at a low point and I needed to begin my Orisha journey- she said. Lmao, she said 'Shit, or get off the throne. They've made Themselves known to you, you're holding up your own progress.' . She didn't cut corners or be polite about it!
The one that got me into the Santeria was my great-grandfather and great-grandmother. I was able to meet great-grandma in the mid-1990s. She instinctively knew I was different and had that ability like her and her late-husband (great-grandfather). Connecting to ancestors and the spirits has always been the first steps, in my family tradition of how this religion is practiced. Mesas are a must. to make sense of everything. First step before initiation is to get a mesa or two done... if three even better. Of course due to my dad being nonbeliever and such, my mom didn't nourished my traits of seeing and talking with spirits as a kid, even though my great-grandma and great-grandfather (her grandparents) warned her not to suppress my gifts and abilities. Now here I am 40 and getting back what was taken from me as a kid. Since getting into this religion and acknowledging the spirits again, I noticed my brother getting better, and my sisters' connection at work is stronger too. I need to be officially imitate to better myself now. Anyways I am loving how you guys share your own experiences and how you got here.
