@Virginia In MaineHello Virginia. I have watched the no rules composting. Looks like a dead sure way of creating a smell and inviting vermin into your garden. The drunken composting and speed composting is a waste of beer and besides, 'what's the hurry'. Winter composting over 6 months is fast enough for me. Jim.

Like HGV I use the over winter method for my bucket and tubs for years. Well worth watching the link posted by HGV.
Now I do not have a lawn or a mower so I cheat slightly, I ask the local council workers when they do the last cut around the local grass areas in autumn to dump a basket load at the rear gate from their ride along mowers. This way I get the grass and leaves already 'CHOPPED' and mixed ready for the 'DROP'...lol

Thank you for this lovely video Jim! Holy Moly those are big onions! Years ago my folks lived on a 10 acre farm in Badger Canyon, desert domain at the base of the Horse Heaven Hills in eastern WA. They had a huge garden as well growing acres of alfalfa, corn, etc. with a few apple, apricot and nut trees. Dad grew a ton of huge beefsteak tomatoes and Walla Walla sweets, we call them, in eastern WA state. I'm now north of Seattle. Walla Walla sweet onions are mild, sweet, and delicious, but they don't keep quite as well or as long as other onions, from our experience. It was pure delight seeing "the pack" frolic at the seashore! Then home and down for the count...little sweethearts, the lot. It's 5.30 in the morning here and having coffee; seeing those precious pups made my day a happy one! Supposed to snow here today or tomorrow. Speaking of onions, I need to dehydrate the 50-plus lbs. I have! Been putting it off for days now. Boohoo and chop chop! Lol. I'd better get it done. Always a thumbs up and grateful you share! Thanks again and warm regards to the missus from across the pond!👵🌌🌲🌁⛄❄🌲🌱🌱🍃💞🐾🐕...ending with sweet Molly😊

Robin, they originally came in the late 1800's from Corsica with a French immigrant, believe it or not!

@@dahutful Hi Dave. If we skip through 200 years of history, the
common dominators are, latitude 47° north, and temperate climate.
Both Corsica and Washington State meet this criteria.
Bottom line is, it was "Named" Walla Walla, only because it was
developed into an onion that eventually would grow true to todays
characteristics in the early 1900's,, there. Though they will probably
grow anywhere, they will not thrive, or reach potential, outside of
      recommended grow zones.
So, you & Robin are both right. The seeds origin is France, the Varieties
name came from where they were first successfully grown here.
What's' interesting to me is "Why" they grow equally as well, 2 different
countries, a 1/3rd + of the way around the world from one another.

Nice video Jim. Do you have a video that shows you actually separating the starts
that grow in the cups, and then how you plant them. I know how I do it, and it works.
Many in here know how and may think it mundane, but am sure there are many , new
to gardening, that would benefit from it. Just a suggestion.
The Walla Walla's I think you'll enjoy. Very sweet and large, but not meant for storage.
Neither are the Ailsa's, and we've all seen how well yours stored in those blue flats in
your garage.👍👍👍 Will be interesting to see how well yours store. They are a long
day variety, so they should grow well in your area.
Also, 2 more ways you can grow your extra plants.
    1) If you grow Tomato's in your in ground garden, plant a couple in between your
Tomato plants. They grow well together and help deter some unbeneficial insects
    and pests. Great companion plants.
    2) Plant 8-10-12 of the smallest ones in 10" pots. Those can be harvested right up
to the bulbing stage and used in recipes that call for chopped spring onions. Very
flavorful when young. Plant them all. Even the tiniest of plants Will grow.
