I aaaaabsolutely agree with you! The most important thing is to be interested in the content you're engaging in! Whatever that is. Youll make much stronger connections with language in meaningful ways when youre passionate about the topic! (Like for me, it was playing Games in Japanese and learning all about my fav stories/characters in Japanese) If you have interest and passion for a topic, you'll be way more motivated and find it way easier to get X numbers of hours of study done than something you arent interested in! ^^
The man himself has graced my lowly channel! Great work you’re doing over there! People speak very highly of you and that praise is well deserved. Thank you for the fantastic work you’ve added to the community.

I think we are on the same page in many ways! Much respect!
Language learning is all about consistent input. The key is to keep consuming compelling content. You need to put yourself in a state of input addiction.
This has always been my take. When I see people wanting to start with materials meant for small children I forewarn they may get bored and that can turn them off the language. It’s better to choose things you’d actually be interested in, especially as an adult learner, in your own language. This not only teaches you vocabulary relevant to you but keeps you actually engaged.
It's good to forewarn, but I think starting with simple material is very important. Listening to stuff you barely understand isn't as efficient. And it doesn't have to be one or the other. One can do simple comprehensible input one part of the day, and incomprehensible, but compelling, input another part.
@@joshuasamuel2122the issue is that the likely hood for me to stick to an immersion routine drastically lowers if it's content that I find painfully boring. It's already hard enough with my ADHD. So in this sense comprehensible input is less efficient because I would put far less hours into immersion in total.
@ I can understand that; I deal with it myself. ADHD definitely makes immersion a hell of harder, and I have definitely experienced having trouble focusing on boring content while doing other things like driving. I used to listen to easier anime while driving to work and my mind would wander like half the time. My solution was to listen to an easier anime that I actually enjoy (like Digimon). But I've also listened to difficult material because, like you said, I found it better to listen to something I actually find compelling. However, I also think the years of listening to hours of difficult material slowed me down because I wasn't understanding most of what I listened to. I would suggest something that I want to get back to, and that's sitting down and focusing on simpler content. I find that tolerating boring content is easier when it's the only thing I'm focused on.
This was an excellent tip. Not just useful for learning a language but for learning in general. I have created channels based on content I might upload but this is an excellent way to divide up my interests and also prevent getting distracted when I am researching.
If the save button does not load, you can just refresh the page. That intro is sickkkkk! Thanks for the tip. This a super good technique. I've sat there and made playlists, but a channel is even better, because I won't get distracted by English speaking content. 🤯
Stephen Krashen likes to call it "compelling input" rather than just "comprehensive", the best feeling is when you forget your listening in a second language and can just flow with the meaning once you are at a high enough level to understand at least 80%
TBH, CI whether comprehensible or compelling input works best if you have reached at least intermediate level. Below this you lack vocab, grammar, everything. But when you have that solid basis you can have fun with it.
@@japanesefromzero Yep. The best case scenario is comprehensive and compelling input. Obviosuly that isn't feasible at all times especially for a beginner so it's best to stick to compelling input. Later on as you improve your compelling input will also turn into comprehensible input and get closer to the i+1 hypothesis which will drastically improve your acquirance of the language.
@@adambowser5783 Though sometimes just the fact that you're understanding makes something compelling. I know a lot of english learners that love Peppa Pig, but you bet they wouldn't watch in their mother tongue. The feeling of acheivement makes it quite compelling on it's own.
@@SupremeDP That's a good way to put it and definitely a thing that happens. Everyone has their own reasons and triggers that make something compelling. New to learning Japanese here. This is one way I'm doing with the language. I work in retail selling tech stuff from headsets to phone chargers. My store is located in the main city in my country so we'd occasionally get tourists from various countries. So, what I do is listen to reviews of tech stuff in Japanese. I'd be listening on the sales floor with one earbud on. Next I'd use Chatgpt to translate sentences that I typically use at work such as "This headphone can be paired with a phone via Bluetooth," "Can I bring this to the cash register?" "I'm sorry, it's out of stock". I'd memorize the sentences and change to suit the situation.
I was totally going to ask you to make a metal version of the intro last night. Lol well done George. Now add a かわいい vocalist to it and I'll die happy.
Yes George!! Keep that intro music!! I love it!! 🤘🏻 I’m going to search for some videos of Japanese people teaching English. It could be interesting! Just like that amazing Eigo Egg!

You can go even further and change your location in the settings to the country that would normally use the language you’re learning. So for Japanese change your location to Japan and you’ll get more fully Japanese content suggested.
I haven't done the TH-cam algorithm thing (though I think it's a very good idea), but I've always tried to read and watch things that I'm actually interested in, even if they are way above my level. Even in the beginning, I just never had any motivation to read simple children's books, so I opted to read way harder, but way more compelling (to me) books instead.
