Nakamura has drawn less than Gukesh. They both have 5 wins, Gukesh has 1 loss and Nakamura has 2 losses, both against Indian Vidit. Nakamura can deliver his vengence tomorrow deliverig a win against Vidit fellow Indian, for a 6 wins. In any case Nakamura will have less draws compared to Gukesh as they play each other.

Hikaru couldn't have claimed the draw when the commentators thought he could, because after c7-c5, the e.p. right existed. The position was not the same as the two similar positions later. Nepo tells the judge it is his intention to repeat the position for the third time, and the game ends there: under the FIDE Laws the move that repeats the position doesn't actually get played if the guy who's about to play it is claiming. EDIT: oh I see that Levy spotted this

Giri on the broadcast, speculated that Nakamura may have mixed up his opening lines.
Nakamura: "I mean, there's a reason I'm here and Anish Giri is not here.”
Giri's observation was fair. Naka blitzed all his moves up until exd5 (SF first choice by far) then played Qxd5 after 20 minutes thought. Then answered Ne4 (again SF first choice) with the weak Qd8. SF has white nearly winning there with d5! instead of Bc2.

It might be a hot take, but I really hope Gukesh doesn't win. I don't have anything against him, but he's definitely not the best player but has had a very good tournament. I like the best player to play Ding, so the world champion means a little more again. If not Magnus, at least let it be one of the next best.

I hope he win this event. If any older player win this tournament and later win championship and become world champion. Won't be considered champion because everyone knows magnus is outplaying them for whole decade, but if Gukesh win this event, and win the championship then there won't be that debate and I think magnus will come back to prove that who is the final boss.

So the "best" player has to go through a process right? Vishy did that. Magnus did that. Titles and qualifiers have to be won. Or "best" players in ur opinion should simply be awarded the titles on a platter because they think they are the best?
I think all the remaining three think they are the best and should be the next champion. How to decide then? Through a process right? If Nakamura, Fab and Ian are so much superior to Gukesh, then they should have demonstrated their superior claim in the match itself. Sadly that didn't happen.

@@SilentThespian I agree, I just think that people have good tournaments, and even play above their levels for a week. He deserves to win because this is the format. But I agree with Magnus that there need to be more games. That said, I really have nothing against the kid, and I hope if he does win it all, that he actually someday proves me wrong by becoming the best player in the world, or at least best among participants.
