the infinite balrog cast from phyrexian altar + pitiless plunderer does leave you with 2 floating mana in red/black (when you stop the combo) and a infinite storm count. perfect for a grapeshot :) a good follow up is jeska thrice reborn. kill the table with the -x or use the +0 earlygame to 1shot someone turn 3. impulsive pilferer + culling the weak guarantees you the turn 2 balrog drop.
The Balrog got me top 5 at my first prerelease event ever, so I am in love with that card. Definitely, I will build him a commander deck, i already have a prototype
thank you for that video. I pulled the balrog and balrog's lash in fullart and was already thinking about building an edh deck with it. Great video mate 👍
Excellent as always. There's a few things I'd throw in. Feign, back to the board with a +1/+1 Necrosynthesis gets us cards equal to the power of the dying creature Torgar way to sac plus hits or raises life total Demon of Loathing a big flying trample demonvthat forces sac on damage Gisa GR/Twrgid for extra salt and taking what gets sac'd
I pulled this commander at prerelease and have been toying with building him since. I like the route you have gone here and am already seeing what cards I have to build it lol.
I assume Dockside is not in the deck because of the budget? Insane with Balrog (wow, we finally broke Dockside :D) Also, Mirkwood Bats could probably be an all-star in ending games quickly with all the treasures you're creating!
I have a similar deck but it’s dargo and keskit I find the big splashy spells you never get to before other players win I found small token producers every turn works way better cause then ur drawing 3 cards a turn and reducing dargo a ton and you always got the fodder to do that cards like loyal apprentice and dread horde invasion
When I was labbing my balrog deck I found mahadi+spiteful banditry really prevents go wide decks. You won’t get the payoff till end of turn but against my lathril blade of the elves deck I had 28 treasures for a 4 mana investment
So i actually dont like fleshbag and the like in this deck. If you think about it it only technically gives you 1 extra mana cuz its 3 to cast it and 4 players. I would rather use these spots for token generation or card draw. Will also add that goblin tribal is a good choice for a build cuz it comes with plenty of token generation and sacrifice utility built in, and its a flavor win
That could definitely be a solid route! I will say though fleshbag on turn 4 into casting your commander and making everyone else sac their commander is back breaking. I honestly really like the idea of the goblin route you might be on to something! 😁
@decktechsfordecks thank you, but I still don't see the fleshbag thing. Turn 4 say you have 4 lands, cast flesh back for 3 now you have 1 land left and you've reduced balrog by 4, that 5 of the total cost of balrog and you may only have 1 of the colored mana you need. I'm saying it's essential just a pyretic ritual, only netting 1 mana in the exchange. Technically it makes it mana efficient, but then your going to run out of cards faster and in rakdos that's not great, and you've only affected the board by removing 1 creature from each opponent which will most likely be a token
There’s a few scenarios where he hits the field on turn 4 a rakdos signet and a sac land can get us there. Generating treasure tokens on turn 3 can get us there also. It might be a playgroup thing but turn 3-4 people are playing their commanders usually in my playgroup not generating tokens but to each their own 😁
Drivnod can get you the extra treasure with Plunderer to keep looping Balrog. Doubles up his death trigger too. Birgi would work with Plunderer too you could use the Defilers with Plunderer or Birgi but you need a way to gain life like Bontu’s Monument or Blood Artist effects
I'm not wrapping my head around how those few cards allow us to cast our commander an infinite amount of times. I realize I may just not be understanding it. :)
@@ianwojo-gaming9224 Thank you for answering. I saw another video where the guy says Balrog + Phyrexian Altar + Pitiless Plunderer can also go infinite. I'm not seeing it. I sac Balrog to the altar and get (R). Sac count: 1 (towards his discount) Plunderer triggers which gets me a treasure. I sac it for the (B). Sac count total: 2 How is the remaining three discount accounted for? And even so, once he goes to the zone, there's tax to account for, yes?
The goal is to sacrifice 5 things then cast him now you can use phyrexian altar and the treasure from pitiless plunderer to not only reduce his additional 2 cmc tax but also his colored pips. It takes a good bit of set up our edict effects, the reaver cleaver, and brass’s bounty can get us there pretty fast.
@@decktechsfordecks Thank you. Now that I've given it more thought, I see where the confusion was. In my mind I was "resetting the sac counter" each time, forgetting it was the number of sacs for the TURN, not just the cycle. Not sure if that makes sense. :)
Correction gloin only triggers once per turn so we won’t be able to go infinite using him.

I’m not even kidding same it was my first pre release and I got third with him!
Hell yea man that’s dope he honestly feels pretty strong 😁
Can you guys link your deck lists? I’m stuck with analysis paralysis cutting this deck down
thank you for that video. I pulled the balrog and balrog's lash in fullart and was already thinking about building an edh deck with it. Great video mate 👍
Thank you I really appreciate that!
Great video as always, Caleb. I was just wondering where you've been, so glad to see you're back! :) This guy looks like a beast.
He definitely is! I was knocking out the Precon upgrades there for a bit so I may have blinded in with other creators haha.
Excellent as always. There's a few things I'd throw in.
Feign, back to the board with a +1/+1

Torgar way to sac plus hits or raises life total

Gisa GR/Twrgid for extra salt and taking what gets sac'd
Those are some solid suggestions!!
@@decktechsfordecks Thank you. 😀 My Konrad list is demon tribal and forced sacrifice. Lol
I pulled this commander at prerelease and have been toying with building him since. I like the route you have gone here and am already seeing what cards I have to build it lol.
Hell yea he’s a monster for sure!
I just pulled this card, sweet timing. Great video
Thank you!
I play a similar deck but with Juri Master of the Revue as Commander, amy suggests ? Which Is Better for a rakdos sacrifice deck?
Note: Rend the Bones got powercrept with a card from bloomburrow, same thing except surveil instead of scry
Another fun way to get infinite sacrafices would be 'sac engine of choice' + Metallic Mimic + any persist creature in rakdos colors
I assume Dockside is not in the deck because of the budget? Insane with Balrog (wow, we finally broke Dockside :D) Also, Mirkwood Bats could probably be an all-star in ending games quickly with all the treasures you're creating!
Yes dockside getting crazy expensive 😅 I love the Mirkwood bats idea!

Whats the thought process in building this deck? Like how do you do the work in understanding what counts as “ramp” in this deck?
When I was labbing my balrog deck I found mahadi+spiteful banditry really prevents go wide decks. You won’t get the payoff till end of turn but against my lathril blade of the elves deck I had 28 treasures for a 4 mana investment
I dig it!
Caleb!! Where is the Shadowfax, Winota's Steed deck tech?!?!
We cooking raffine lmao I’ll probably get it done next week though!!! 😁
He may go into the 99 of my awaken the blood avatar deck
Nice Deck, but it comes with a pricetag a bit to high for my playgroup. I would love a budget build with the same idea.
Skullstorm does kill people. Losing half your life, rounded up, when you're at one, means you lose one.
Ohhhhh this makes sense I appreciate you pointing that out!

Atsushi goes infinite with Nim Deathmantle and Ashnod's Altar
You should build farmer cotton
He does seem pretty strong
I'm not wrapping my head around how those few cards allow us to cast our commander an infinite amount of times. I realize I may just not be understanding it. :)
Gloin doesn't go infinite with pitiless plunderer, since his treasure making effect is only once a turn, but he may not have realized that.

Gloin only triggers once a turn unfortunately
Man I always miss that last bit of text that really matters I appreciate you pointing that out 😁
Love your content but lay off the caffeine! Lol you moved so much I couldn't focus on the cards 😂
I love his high energy! I am jealouse 😮
