      It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

    Thank you Danny!!! My last couple rounds have been substandard and you pointed out why! The second I saw this video it clicked....I was leaning in my reach back.

  • @DjMastola
    @DjMastola 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Good stuff! I've been playing for about a year now and have worked alot on my form. I wanted to throw over 100 m / 330 feet, so I started focusing on the reach back and trying to pull the disc as hard as possible. But when I filmed my myself I saw that I leaned back too much which resulted in nose up, air bouncing, rounding and alot of other mistakes. So I believe many beginners does the same, try to gather all the power in the reachback and upper body movement, ending up leaning way back.
    So If you are like me, new to the game and want to get more distance and accuracy. Shorten the reachback it made wonders for me in control and distance. All of a sudden the disc is flying 12 feet above the ground for 275-300 feet, instead of 25 feet above the ground for 230-250 feet.

    I'm really hoping eventually by learning all these tricks and tips I will finally be able to play this game like I should be able to. I play best when I throw the disc low and flat and hard but many times I'm throwing it way up high pulling it, releasing it early, releasing it late. I just want to shoot even par! Thanks for these videos you are really good!

    Funny, i just figured this out yesterday, and it changed my game. I used to lean WAY back, and I already came across this information, and I thought I had "fixed" it by staying more upright. It helped, but yesterday I decided to try to keep all my weight forward as much as I possibly could through my whole run up. What I found was that I can't fall forward because I simply move faster to catch up, and I plant harder and farther forward to counter the weight shift. I feel like I am just out over my front foot the whole time until the plant. The result: I threw my farthest drives ever, and had much better accuracy, too. And then this video randomly pops into my feed... it's a sign. Danny is right about this, but I would like to add something important: if you have a problem with leaning back, fixing it and staying upright is not going to feel like you are staying upright, it is going to feel like you are almost falling forward the whole run up.

  • @Postermaestro
    @Postermaestro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! I really think the idea of pulling the disc is a big cause for this problem. When you pull something really hard you would lean back to pull it and then lean/throw your torso forward while pulling with your arm. If your torso is moving back and forth during the rotation it means that a lot of mass is far away from the center of rotation, which causes a high moment of inertia -> slow rotation for the same torque. Just for the same reason that you want to tuck your left arm, you want to keep your mass close to the center of rotation, ideally having the center of rotation pretty much go through your spine. Not only does the leaning substantially slow down your rotation, the forward lean at release will also cause you to either throw straight into the ground, or compensate by releasing nose up and airbouncing your shot. Moreover, if your torso is still moving forward during the swing, you are not using your forward momentum to accelerate the rotation (aka bracing). The lower body and the torso need to stop ("hit the wall") after the plant, which requires you to push into the ground and tighten your core to accelerate the arm swing. Posture really is one of the key components of a good throw.

    Great video, Danny. I’ve got so many issues with my throw, but one thing I’m trying to avoid is watching the pros too much. For one, they make it too easy. Secondly, their immense skills allows them to get away with things the average Am can’t. Agree? Also, why is it so hard to slow things down? When I video myself, it looks like I want the throw to be over as soon as possible. I also think of many of the things I need to do during a throw AFTER I make the throw. I only started playing about 15 years ago, so I’ll get it eventually........right?

    But what about precision. I have noticed that I throw more accurately when distance is not important. For example my approach throws are 85% OK (max 60m) , but distance rips are all over the field and I am satisfied only with 10% of throws (my max distance is about 95m.)

  • @lokinakor1
    @lokinakor1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a weak link in the chain for all advanced ams and new pros, but it's more of a problem than just getting the weight shift right or wrong.
    It is enough to be wrong if you are flat-footed on your back foot on the last step. This will be enough to throw off your timing because the weight shift will be incomplete and too slow.

    Danny, what is the proper timing when you rotate? Do you do it like a swinging a baseball bat where the rotation starts in the hips, then flows up to the upper body like a whip? Or do you rotate your lower and upper body in unison like a dancer doing a pirouette?

    • @DannyLindahl
