    Wonderful video! Fun and useful. Clear demonstration of Sigma 135mm sharpness and bokeh, sweet.
    That light, was it the Flashpoint XPLOR 600? Looked like and a few shots looked like you used high speed sync. Is that correct? What do you think of it? Recommended? Thanks!

    Woow! Really love your shots! I am also thinking of buying a 135mm 1.8 art on a Nikon D750 but not sure yet, because I've heard that the focus isn't fast and that it has a backfocus. Is that true? Or do you think a 70-200mm 2.8 vr ii would be greater for portrait and humans which are in movement? Would be very great if you answer!

    Great video Key! Lense looks excellent. There has been a lot of issues with focus on the 85mm Art. Did you have any issues with this one? I noticed you said you had to make minor adjustments. Really considering this lense for portrait work mostly. Thanks for any help!

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! Straight out of the box the focusing was on point, but I made some minor adjustments to make it hit much better. Now, when I first bought the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 it was off so bad my fine tune ended up being +17, but once it was tuned I had no other problems. The focusing speed on this lens is insanely fast too.

      I actually watched this video again and found something interesting. Were you shooting on a Nikon D4s or D810 with the Sigma 135 Art lens? I'm just wondering why you were using ISOs below 100 if you were shooting on a Nikon D4s. Or were you shooting jpeg?

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Lui I was shooting on the D4s so that wasn't the native ISO. It was Lo3 but shows up in Lightroom as ISO 64.

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steven Lui shooting lower ISO gives a more contrasty look.

      Keydrin Franklin I've got mine yesterday and am loving it. It works deadly accurate and focuses quickly on both my D5 and D500. I'm going to use it and take some portraits of my kids during the Easter holidays. Preliminarily it looks like it's even better than the Sigma 85mm Art in terms of color rendition and smoothness of bokeh. I don't own the Nikon 105mm f/1.4e lens (I will never buy one). Can you do a review comparing the two lenses?

      I was the video guy and the other guy was filling in when I wasn't shooting. The sigma lens we were using was a native E mount lens so the auto focus works great on it. We were shooting in 120fps so our shutter speed was 1/250sec at f/1.4 the whole shoot.

    Thank you for the video and sample photos. Great work, I pre-ordered the Sigma 135 f1.8 the day after it was released for Pre-Orders. Still waiting to get it (Canon EF mount). The pictures look amazing, what is your take on the AF Accuracy and Speed? btw I also have the 18-35mm f1.8 ART on my 80D and the 50mm 1.4 ART on my 6D, I know a lot of people have complained in the past, I also have a few canon 1.8's (50 & 85mm). I have found the Sigma (ART line) AF speed accuracy to be about the same as Canon. Whats your opinion on the 135mm f1.8 AF accuracy ?

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY

      Subir Thapa my personal preference is the 135 because I love fixed lenses. Strobes flashpoint system either the Xplor 600TTL or the flashpoint streaklight 360, or a even lighter option is the evolve200 that's equivalent to 6 speedlites. The first two links in the description

    You posted a video claiming that Canon F2L users should keep their lenses because you couldnt see any difference...wow you REALLY need to remove that video if you have not done it yet cause the Sigma murdered the Canon and the first few pro tests/reviews are out.
    www.lenstip.com/501.11-Lens_review-Sigma_A_135_mm_f_1.8_DG_HSM_Summary.html
    The cult Canon EF 135 mm f2L USM in the frame centre was able to reach
    43.2 lpmm at most. The Sigma A 135 mm f/1.8 DG HSM reached 44.1 lpmm on
    the edge of full frame, when wide open. Do I have to say anything more?

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      First of all I have done the video and the shoot out. I'm just not finished with the video. Secondly, I cannot tell the difference looking at the side by side images as far as the out of focus area. In the future, please don't come to me like that ask first. Now, if you're talking about sharpness and all the technical aspects then yes Sigma is KING. I stand by Sigma's product. What I said in my video was if it's not broke don't fix it. Meaning, if you have that lens Canon 135L there's no need to upgrade UNLESS you want to upgrade. I know people that have the canon version and their work is amazing. So, the guy that was shooting the canon was using the Canon 1dx mark 2 and I was using my Nikon D4s and the Sigma 135 to make it equally. At the end of the day it's not what you shoot its how you shoot.

      Keydrin Franklin again you missed the point. with the simga you get perfect sharpness at 1.8 no matter where you place the subject. with the Canon you need F4 to compete vs the sigma....how is this even up for debate? Accept you are wrong and learn from your mistakes or be arrogant and act like you know it all. The reviews are coming out now and back up my claims so you will be the one looking like a fool with this video. Your call..

      shaolin95 I'm done with the conversation. Just wait til my video drops. I've played with both lenses and been shooting long enough to know it's how you shoot the lens. I shoot center point focus and recompose so no matter where my subjects is place they will be sharp. My Video drops next week talk to me after that 😎

      Hey Keydrin just went to DIY to view the post on your review of the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 and I was very surprised by the comments, I was very put off by the comments that was made about the review, your model and you photography style. One person complained about the same girl wearing blue with a green background and not taking photos of red or orange, what the F*#k. Keydrin you did a great job on the review, I like viewing real world use of a product in the hands of a great photographer. Hey I was so impressed with the review, I purchased the lens and use it to shoot my granddaughters prom send off: scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/18402315_1700883173258461_3158246396158252382_o.jpg?oh=2709f4dd376e02d09d5f7141ad5e7628&oe=59B2BBFC

    so what is the selling point of the 135 f1.8 vs the 105 f1.4 or 200 f2. i guess it has a little more compression than the 105 and closer focusing. but the 105 is
    f 1.4. i would like to hear you break down the differences and benifits between them all. and why you would use one over another. personally an 85 f1.4 is enough for me. so i am wondering why i would want to ad a 135 f1.8 to my bag. it seems like the close focusing for head shots would be great. but i dont know if thats enough to get me to buy it. and im considering selling all my Cannon gear and getting a Sony mirrorless. im waiting to see what Sony puts out next like an A7r lll

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      photographerjonathan for me like you said it's the longer focal length for compression. I have the Nikon 105mm f/1.4 and I'll be doing a comparison soon. For me it comes down to personal preference and I tend to go with the longer focal lengths like the 200mm f2. I love the way they render the background. But, the 105 is good and super sharp as well. So, do you want to spend 800 more on a Nikon 105 or spend less and get the same quality plus a little more compression.

    Hey Keydrin I have a few questions if you don't mind, I know you are very busy. I purchased the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 lens and I had bad experience with focus accuracy, the lens would focus very fast but not the accuracy of the focus was off, misfocus and total lack of detail in the skin. I was using my Nikon D610 in single focus and single mode. Did you find that you have to calibrate the lens I don't recall hearing it as part of the video or I may have missed it, but how did you find the focus did it hunt for focus. I returned the lens and now have received the replacement and I will keep you posted.

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert T. Johnson hey first in the past I've had problems with the D610 and focusing recently I had a client that had the d610 and I put my 105 f1.4 on it and it missed everything. Your questions yes I mentioned it in the video. I had to fine tune it slightly on my D4s and when it locked on it was tack sharp. Far as the hunting goes I've encountered that a few times where it was just hunting back and forth until I had to move to a different spot. I noticed it more in lower light conditions or when shooting below like ground level up. Other than that try fine tuning it with FoCal or the Spyder lenscal.

    • @roberttjohnson
      @roberttjohnson 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Keydrin thanks for the quick reply, I will calibrate it to my Nikon D610 body and post a few shots of my results and I was not sure if I had heard that you calibrated the lens, my plan to calibrate all my lens, never had thought of it before, but makes sense due to all the variations in lens mounts and camera bodies, I do know that there's a minim focus tolerance or variance from one lens to another and found it's not uncommon to keep trying different copies until you get a good one. I read a post at Lens Rentals Blog and their method of testing was to purchase 10 copies and tested them to get an average of the lens performance and QC, the post can be found here: www.lensrentals.com/blog/2017/04/sigma-135mm-f1-8-art-mtf-charts-and-a-look-behind-the-curtain/

    Hi , nice review .I am undecided between the 85 art and the 135 art.Since you have used both which one is better in terms of IQ at the WOA and lower apertures .Sharpness, AF speed and bokeh are the criteria for me to
    make a decision.I do outdoor portraits mainly and use the canon 1.2
    and the 135 f/2 for now

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Srinivas S both of the IQ are great, sharpness both are razor when fine tune to your camera body if needed. What it comes down to is what focal lengths do you prefer. I prefer the longer focal length. So for me it's the 135.

    This lens looks awesome. To me though the 105 1.4E bokeh is more creamier, buttery and has more character. The Bokeh on the Sigma looks a little more clinical to me. Can't wait on some side by side comparisons.

    • @924PHOTOGRAPHY
      @924PHOTOGRAPHY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Renee Crabtree thank you! I'll have that in a few weeks as well as a comparison to the Nikon 200mm f2

    • @reneecrabtree3283
      @reneecrabtree3283 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be awesome. I just sold my 200 F2 because I like the 105 1.4E so much and it's so much lighter to carry around. Not saying I liked it better than the 200 F2, but it was so close and the difference in weight was enough for me to let it go. I came to the realization I wanted a dreamy creamy looking background but didn't need it turned to complete mush. The Sigma 135 looks like the best bang for the buck for an awesome portrait lens to me. But if you check out camera labs review and look at the photo's of the books on the shelf, the bokeh on the 105 is clearly smoother and creamier IMO.

    Update from previous post. Received the new copy of the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 ART and did a quick calibration check and the lens did not appear to require any calibration, keep in mind that this was a quick check, I will perform a more in-depth calibration assessment this weekend when I will have more time. I also captured a photo of my unwilling granddaughter and checked her skin texture and included my suit as a sharpness and texture check, the image were save from raw files no corrections were performed and the images were saved in jpeg 90% and downsized to 1200X800. Keep in mind this is just a quick check and everything checked ok on this copy. scontent.ford1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/18953213_1732142033465908_9208991180735867831_o.jpg?oh=e5c8b2fa718935b4b888e37f13bbc85a&oe=59D718EF

      Chris Cheek on the smooth parts I was recording and the shaky parts was when Derek was filming. I think it's because after I balance it we threw the rode mic on top and threw off the balance. I didn't check any of the footage he recorded until I got home and was deeply saddened. I'll make sure next time to balance it all from the start. Originally we were going to do the audio separately but we didn't have enough people

    Hey man, just a quick question...
    i know you own the 200mm f2 and now you have the sigma, do you find yourself using the 200 less now?
    I had the 200 and loved it but just wondering if the 135 1.8 will actually be just as good.

    The background should look similar to the 200mm f/2 ( th-cam.com/video/fCd3U-IXTXc/w-d-xo.html ) but in this case I think the 135mm f/1.8 looked more pleasing. Maybe it was the trees instead of the urban area that was the difference.

    I've always wondered...
    How do photogs post process their images that it just looks smooth and silky. Not Matte cause that's just playing with tone curve on LR/PS.

      Immanuel Uy I just shoot wide open and use noise reduction in post 😎
