Dear Friends, Listeners, and Viewers, Once again, thank you so much for your invaluable comments. I would like to make some corrections to the following; Engineer Soldiers are called Sappers, Band BG Soldiers are called Musicians and my Intake is 1993 and were 153 in total and finally, I was referring to 1700 or 1800 hundred not century. It is quite hard to reflect on our 209 years of history within two hours. Thank you and Namaste 🙏 🙏
Britishers are really mastermind to take loyal and brave Gurkha mercenaries in their British Army and after their retirement, deal an army of ex Gurkha soldiers as security in Hongkong.
Technically 2GR (Sirmoor) is/was/use to be a Magar and Gurung dominant regiment till 1995, but glad to see and hear Major Rai (who himself represents 2 GR/ now 1RGR & 2RGR. "NO DOUBT" Major Rai has a huge knowledge of history, espcially Gorkha/Gurkha history. Salute.🙏
For your info, Major Rai was in the 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles which is now 2RGR. There were 2nd, 6th, 7th and 10th GR in the past. (2nd and 6th was for Magar, Gurung from West Nepal and 7th and 10th was Rai, Limbu from East Nepal) 2nd and 6th GR becomes 1 RGR and 7th and 10th became 2 RGR.
Definitely an insightful story on the brigade of Gurkhas coming out from Dilli kumar Rai saheb.😊 Enjoyed every second of the chat going back and forth between past and present. Looking forward to the book to be published.😆 Well executed always Sanjay bro to bring out every thing.🎉
SG: Hi, Great Podcasts, Salute! if I know correctly, .... when Nepal lost the last war with British at Khalanga (now Dehradun) then the Commander Balbhadra Kunwar being a nationalist opted to go in exile to fight against the British as the Nepal entered the Treaty with the Britain by joining then King of Punjab with capital in Lahore along with his army who Never returned to Nepal. Since it was Lahore as the first destination in any name of Nepali warriors (army) got a name of Lahure i.e. someone in Lahore. .... largest graveyard outside Nepal for Nepali (army) is perhaps in Malaya (now part of Malaysia). When British ruled Malaya got independence, perhaps four division of land with Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo or some else became part of Indonesia. Cheers
When british ruled india, gurkhas of nepal were recruited in india along with indian gurkhas or gorkhas (nepali language speaking indian ppl living in india since greater nepal). Most of gurkhas who joined british gurkha army from nepal were uneducated so only educated gurkhas (mostly tamang) from india darjeeling, sikkim... were GCOs, QGOs (trainings, language translation...) and gurkha clerks (documentation...). Major Kunjalal Moktan Tamang - first indian gurkha to receive an MBE in british gurkha army. But when british left india then british recruited gurkhas from nepal only who have nepalese passports. Plz don't forget sacrifices n hard work of some british officers, tamang gurkha officers n other gurkhas to fight against discrimination among gurkhas (monopoly of certain converted hindu castes of nepal) from recruitment to promotions in british gurkha army in pasts. Also please don't forget sacrifices of known n unknown graves of all fallen gurkhas (including tamang as tamang, tamang as others n others castes of nepal) all over the world. 🍻 🙏
truth was Tamang were not allowed to join army back in the old days cause Rana kept them in masinyaa matwali category (slave alcohol drinker) if recruited only in Kulli pipa. matwali of all short ware also not allowed to get any short of education wither namasinya or masinya. aslo britisher uses these manual while choosing gorkhali in their army. there are many story where tamang men have to change their cast just to enter into the millinery. British prefer men from 4 main cast which was gurung, magar, rai and limbus. Despite being educated and more in population bahun and chettri were less preferable. Chettri were also warrior class and have education of some short so the point about your educated one debunks here. I do not deny any of your claim but history says some other story which do not match with you newly created manifesto. In the time of war when men from 4 main community started to fell short then after Britesher started to recruit from all of the community including Tamang and had stopped completely discrimination. Still Indian army don no have Gorkha Regiment dedicated to tamang. 1/11 is for rai and limbus, 9 for chettri and other are mostely gurung and magars. but as per your claim there should be one which i dont know can you mention it.
